He felt very tired and hopeless.
Just then, his father came home from work and saw his son work hard. He didn’t help Robert. Instead, he asked, “Dear son, have you done your best? And are you doing everything you can?”
“Yes, I am.” the boy cried.
“No, you’re not.” his father said quietly, “You have not asked me to help you. Asking for help is not a weakness. At some point, even the strongest of us needs help. It is important to know when to ask for help and understand why you need it. Never be afraid to ask others for help when you’re in trouble.”

No one wants to work at a messy(凌乱的) desk and look lazy. But does a messy desktop actually mean that? Not all disorders mean you mess everything up.
People who like a messy desk have their own ideas. Some think it makes them comfortable. Some believe it helps them focus(专注) more easily. Messy tables can make it easier to focus on the tasks, just like some writers can write patiently in a noisy place. Others may be the people who want to do things perfectly. They usually put away the less important things and do the most important ones perfectly, which leads to paper mountains on the desktop.
Research shows that people working with a messy desktop are probably more creative and like to take risks. But people with a tidy one often follow the rules and may not like to try new things. For example, in an experiment(实验) done by Kathleen Vohs, people in the messy group came up with more interesting and creative ideas about the new uses of ping-pong balls. Vohs says, “Messy environments seem to inspire(激发) people to think up fresh ideas.”
But a messy desk might not be the best choice all the time. When you need new ideas, a messy desk might be a good choice; but when you want to do a task quickly and successfully, it seems better to make a desk clean and tidy.
42.Why do some people like a messy desk?
A.Because they are lazy and untidy. B.Because they want to do things well.
C.Because it helps them focus on tasks easily. D.Because it helps them do their work patiently.
43.What does the experiment done by Kathleen Vohs show us?
A.Disorder is welcomed by most people in this world.
B.A messy desktop has a bad influence on people's minds.
C.People working with a tidy desktop can also be successful.
D.People working with a messy desktop may be more creative.
44.What can be the best title for the passage?
A.Messy Desk: Do People Need to Change It?
B.Messy Desk: Does It Make People Comfortable?
C.Messy Desk: Do People Get Used to It?
D.Messy Desk: Does It Help People Work Patiently?
Many countries are facing energy(能源) problems. Nopalimex, a company in Mexico, has made one of the world’s first corn-powered(动力) factories. The idea came to Sosa in Nopalimex when he was looking for ways to save money for his food factory. The cost to produce the gas(气体)is half the cost of electricity.

Why prickly pear? Fuel can be made from other plants such as corn, but there are a few reasons why prickly pear is a better choice. First, prickly pears need very little water and very little care, and grow well in hot temperatures. Also, unlike corn, prickly pears don’t need space that could be used for other food plants. They can grow in areas where many food plants can’t grow. Last, after making gas from prickly pears and manure, their byproducts(副产品)can be used to help grow food.
Scientists still need to do more research on making and using prickly pear gas. To protect the earth, we need green energy.

五、阅读回答问题
阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)
Parents can be very important teachers in our lives. However, they are not always the best teachers. Parents may be too close to their children emotionally(感情上).
Sometimes they can only see their children through the eyes of a protector. A teacher might see a trip to a big city as a valuable experience. However, it might seem too dangerous for a parent.
Another problem is that parents may expect their children’s interests to be similar to their own. If they love science, they may try to force their child to love science too. But what if their child’s true love is art, or writing, or car repair?
Parents usually want to pass on their values to their children. But should children always believe what their parents do? When children are young, they believe that their parents are always right. But when they get older, they will have different ways of thinking.
The most important thing to realize is that we all have many teachers in our lives. Our parents teach us, our teachers teach us, and our friends teach us. Books, newspapers and televisions also teach us. All of them are valuable.
53.Why are parents not always the best teachers? (不超过10个词)
