二、阅读单选
It was a sunny Sunday afternoon. I stopped at a teahouse to enjoy a cup of tea. Suddenly, I felt a hand on the back of my jacket and heard someone say, “Hi, David! How are you doing?”
Looking back, I saw a man. He looked familiar, but I couldn’t remember where we had met.
The young man also held a cup of tea, so I asked him to join me. Very soon, his story began to evoke my memory.
His name is Peter. Six years earlier, Peter was driving back home late on a February night. A heavy snow had arrived that afternoon, and by midnight, the snowdrifts (雪堆) were getting deep. His car was stuck in a snowdrift just down the road from my house.
He walked to my house for help. I helped him pull his car out of the snowdrift and up to the street where the snow had been cleaned away.
This was a normal happening here during the winter. I couldn’t count the times someone has helped me to pull my car from a snowdrift. However, it was an unforgettable experience for him. He was only eighteen at that time, and he said he was very afraid. No one wants to be stuck in a snowdrift at night.
Sometimes, one simple kindness at the right moment can change the direction of a life. So, be kind and helpful.

When we are little, we do all kinds of foolish things, sometimes unwillingly and sometimes premeditated (有预谋的). And parents’ next behaviour is to punish us and make sure that we won’t repeat that nonsense (愚蠢的行为) again.
Therefore, at an early age, parents punish their children as follows: firstly, they don’t allow children to watch TV for a couple of days; secondly, parents don’t permit their children to go out and play with their friends; thirdly, children are given different tasks to do—they have to write something several times or they have to stay in the corner of the room, until parents decide to “free” them.
Moreover, when in their adolescence (青春期), children can receive other types of punishment. Most parents punish children by not giving them pocket money, which is the best form of punishment for them. Then, they forbid (禁止) children to go out in weekends or return home after a certain hour. Not to forget the fact that parents also refuse to give them food, which means that children have to prepare meals alone as they have no other choice.
Sometimes, these forms of punishment have positive results and children won’t repeat the bad things they have done. However, if a child is used to doing nonsense, then all his or her parents’ punishments will be of no importance to him or her. He or she will do stupid things again in a short time after receiving punishment from his or her parents.
24.Which of the punishments doesn’t belong to an early age child?
A.Don’t be allowed to watch TV for a few days. B.Can’t be permitted to go out and play with friends.
C.Have to do all kinds of tasks. D.Have to cook meals by himself or herself.
25.Which is the best form of punishment for a child in adolescence?
A.Can’t get the pocket money. B.Can’t go out in weekends.
C.Have to return home after a certain hour. D.Can’t eat the meals prepared by parents.
26.From the last paragraph we can know the writer thinks ______.
A.the parents’ punishment is necessary for the children
B.all the punishments have positive results
C.parents shouldn’t punish their children all the time
D.sometimes the punishment isn’t important to the children
Every week, Wu Lin, a 19-year-old college student, will wait at a store selling food nearing its expiration date (保质期), and return to school with a bag of snacks. “These products are usually sold at 30% to 50% off and many of them are from big brands. I’m really a big fan of them,” she said.

On Taobao, around 2.1 million people buy near-expired food every year.
From a food safety standpoint (立场), which may worry many consumers, experts believe that such products won’t do any harm. “Near-expired food is safe and buying these products is a good practice to help prevent waste of resources, which should be encouraged,” says Zhou Yu, a professor of food nutrition (营养) and safety at Anhui Agricultural University.

61.例文
The challenge that I faced
Challenges are unavoidable in our lives. The most unforgettable challenge I faced was to overcome the difficulty of learning math.
I didn’t use to like math. I thought it was boring and difficult. I couldn’t concentrate whenever I dealt with math problems. Although math was truly a headache for me, I knew I had to learn it well. I knew attitude played a very important role in learning a subject well. So I made up my mind to find the interests in math and finally I found that math was closely related to our lives. As long as I do more practice, the math problems are not so difficult as they used to be.
From this experience, I realize that nothing is impossible unless we give up. I feel lucky that I chose to face the challenge bravely and finally overcame the difficulty.
