It has no modern buildings to ruin its attractiveness. With such quiet surroundings, including the traditional fishing boats, it’s a particularly charming place to visit.
    Portmagee, Ireland
In a country filled with beautiful towns, Portmagee sits on the southwest coast of Ireland. This postcard-perfect seaside fishing town has brightly colored buildings with a rich and colorful history. At the Bridge Bar, you’ll find live music along with nice food and a fine glass of beer.

Bacteria are an annoying problem for astronauts. The microorganisms(微生物) from our bodies grow uncontrollably on surfaces of the International Space Station, so astronauts spend hours cleaning them up each week. How is NASA overcoming this very tiny big problem? It’s turning to a bunch of high school kids. But not just any kids. It is depending on NASA HUNCH high school classrooms, like the one science teachers Gene Gordon and Donna Himmelberg lead at Fairport High School in Fairport, New York.
HUNCH is designed to connect high school classrooms with NASA engineers. For the past two years, Gordon’s students have been studying ways to kill bacteria in zero gravity, and they think they’re close to a solution(解决方案). “We don’t give the students any breaks. They have to do it just like NASA engineers,” says Florence Gold, a project manager.
“There are no tests,” Gordon says. “There is no graded homework. There almost are no grades, other than ‘Are you working towards your goal?’ Basically, it’s ‘I’ve got to produce this product and then, at the end of year, present it to NASA.’ Engineers come and really do an in-person review, and...it’s not a very nice thing at times. It’s a hard business review of your product.”
Gordon says the HUNCH program has an impact(影响) on college admissions and practical life skills. “These kids are so absorbed in their studies that I just sit back. I don’t teach.” And that annoying bacteria? Gordon says his students are emailing daily with NASA engineers about the problem, readying a workable solution to test in space.
24.What do we know about the bacteria in the International Space Station?
A.They are hard to get rid of. B.They lead to air pollution.
C.They appear in different forms. D.They damage the instruments.
25.What is the purpose of the HUNCH program?
    A.To strengthen teacher-student relationships.
    B.To sharpen students’ communication skills.
C.To allow students to experience zero gravity.
D.To link space technology with school education.
26.What do the NASA engineers do for the students in the program?
A.Check their product. B.Guide project designs.
C.Adjust work schedules. D.Grade their homework.
27.What is the best title for the text?
    A.NASA: The Home of Astronauts
    B.Space: The Final Homework Frontier
    C.Nature: An Outdoor Classroom
    D.HUNCH: A College Admission Reform
    C
As for old people, some of the applications are hard to use because they didn’t grow up with them. They don’t have simple models of how they should work, what to do when something doesn’t work or where to go for help. We make it as easy as possible to be used for people who are not familiar with the technology.
I think there is huge potential (潜力) and we are designing it. The ability to connect to friends, who remember the same movies and news and music, is really important, especially as people get old. They end up in retirement homes and they aren’t always close to their friends. Allowing the network to help them connect with friends and family is a really powerful thing.
My mother is an enthusiastic user of the Internet, although it took me years to get her to use e-mail. She was born with normal hearing, but lost it when she was 3. She was totally deaf for many years, until age 53, when she got ear aids. They work really well. That is a big change for her. But before then, her friends couldn’t call her on the phone, so they insisted she use e-mail to communicate with them.
Young people don’t even think of the Internet as technology. It’s just there, and they use it. There’s been a very interesting change in communications styles between old people and young people. There are some kids who are now in their teens and aren’t willing to make phone calls. And they think of e-mail as old-fashioned and slow.
The reason why teens don’t make phone calls seems to be that they don’t know what to say. When they call they often stop for a while and there’s this silence. On the other hand, texting is considered proper, and it’s okay if you don’t answer. You might have been distracted. It’s not considered rude. But it is considered strange if you’re in this kind of voice conversation and simply stop talking.
28.What is the trouble that old people meet when surfing the Internet?
A.They don’t know how to use some applications.
B.They have to buy electronic productions at a high price.
C.There is no professional teacher to teach them how to use the Internet.
D.They have no friends to communicate with online.
29.What do the young people think of the Internet according to the passage?
    A.Interesting. B.Amazing.
    C.Boring. D.Common.
30.We can infer from the passage that the author is a ________.
    A.company manager B.program designer
    C.college professor D.mobile phone seller
31.What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph probably mean?
    A.You have replied the message.
B.You have walked away from the conversation.
    C.You have been cut off.
D.You have asked for a pardon.
    D
More treasured than the gold in its vaults (金库) are the data a bank has stored on its servers. Banks enjoy a monopoly over data that has helped them get away with awful service and fend off newcomers with better ideas. In Europe, at least, that is all about to change.
The source of this disruption is a new set of regulations, named the Second Payment Service Directive, or “PSD2”. The rules, which are being finalised and will be in force from January next year, will force banks to share data easily with licensed third parties. Bankers in Europe scream that their profits and customer relationships are under threat. Fearing they could be next,America’s bankers are already trying to persuade their regulators to keep their data monopoly well-preserved. Such reactions are predictable and wrong.
Some concerns about PSD2 make sense. In particular, it is reasonable to wonder about the privacy and security implications of sensitive financial data being shared with third parties. But banks themselves are hardly immune to cyber attack. And the way that European regulators propose to deal with these worries looks promising. Third parties that want to use bank data will need to convince national regulators that their data defences are solid and must submit to annual inspections. New entrants to cyber must also takeout deception insurance; their insurers will have a clear reason to demand state of their cyber security. Many online payments will become more secure than they are today, because of the officially instructed requirements for the use of a vigorous authentication process involving two-step confirmation.
The gap between writing rules and implementing them is always large. So the following might make sense. First, agreement from customers to provide access to their bank data must be gained explicitly, not buried in pages of wordy professional terms. The purposes for which data might be used should be clearly explained; and individuals’ agreement to share their personal information should be easily reversible. Second, regulators must be decisive and cruel both in ensuring that banks open up their database to others and in withdrawing the licences of third parties that break the rules, particularly on cyber security.
Since the new entrants will not be licensed to engage in riskier forms of finance—such as lending money—it makes sense to regulate them with a lighter touch. But if some financial technology providers do end up becoming systemically important, higher standards of oversight might be necessary.
32.According to the author, what is the change about to happen to Europe?
A.Data stored in servers will fail to offer service.
B.Banks will better treasure their stored gold than data.
C.Banks will lose control of data stored on their servers.
D.Banks will have to share what they exclusively control.
33.What’s the popular response of bankers to the to-be-released “PSD2”?
A.They feel alarmed at it. B.They feel confused at it.
C.They accept it as rational. D.They take it as ridiculous.
34.What does the author think of the concerns about the new set of regulations?
A.They are predictable and wrong. B.They are reasonable but intolerable.
C.They are unnecessary and insensible. D.They are understandable but unnecessary.
35.What does the author suggest on the enforcement of the regulations?
A.Customers must be granted the right to privacy.
B.Regulators should be rough in conducting regulations.
C.Higher running supervision might be adopted if necessary.
D.New entrants to cyber must takeout deception insurance.

    Blue Eyes
My family and I often feed the homeless in our community. It actually feels more like spending time with friends. We hug them, give them something to eat and drink, and sit and talk with them.
We hadn’t been doing this too long when we met a tall, thin gentleman I refer to as Blue Eyes. His blond hair was turning gray, and his eyes were as bright and blue as the summer sky.Blue Eyes smiled a lot.He knew that what he was doing on the streets was wrong. His addictions had taken hold of him, and he couldn’t pull away, though he never failed to let us know how thankful he was for us.
Blue Eyes was a business owner once, married to a beautiful woman. But his wife got sick, and he used all his money for her treatment. When she died, not only did Blue Eyes lose the love of his life, but he was also out of money. Then his beloved dog passed away.During all that heartache Blue Eyes turned to drugs and alcohol to numb his pain.He lost his home, and he ended up on the streets.
On one Sunday afternoon, one of the guys he shared the streets with advised us that Blue Eyes was sick and needed help getting a prescription (处方) filled. When we mentioned this to Blue Eyes, he put down his head, ashamed to make it seem that he had to ask for help.
We learned that he had cancer and various other illnesses. His prescription would cost sixty dollars—an amount that he didn’t have.We assured him that we would get it filled for him.
Walking away from him that day I wondered what we had just done. As much as we loved spending time with our homeless friends, the amount of money we were spending on the food and snack bags made our budget tight. But sixty dollars extra for a prescription? I didn’t see how we were going to pull that off. Something told me to just have faith, though.
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
We went to the pharmacy (药店) and dropped off the prescription to be filled.

W: Real ones are pretty messy. And I don’t want to spend money on another new tree. Let’s just stick to the old one.
M: OK. That leaves the turkey. Who is coming to dinner, again?
W: My best friend Erin is coming.
M: My parents will have dinner with us.
    W: All right. I’ll buy a 24-pound turkey.

M: Yeah. So lucky—the tickets sold out in 20 minutes!
W: Amazing! It lasts for five days. Shall we book a hotel?
M: I’m not sure. The hotels are quite far from the festival site, so I suggest we bring our tents.
W: Good idea! How do we get to the festival?
M: We can take a direct train from London Paddington to Castle Cary, the host town, which costs ₤70.40. It leaves at 9: 00 am.
W: How about taking a coach? It’ll probably take longer, but it’ll be cheaper.
M: That’s true. Let me check Yes, it’s only ₤30. OK, let’s meet at London Victoria at 5: 00 am.
next Saturday. There is a coach leaving at 5:30 am.
W: Okay! Should I bring an umbrella? And how about bringing some food with us?
M: I think a raincoat would be better. Umbrellas block other people’s view of the stage. And
there’ll be plenty of places to buy food at the festival site.
W: Great! Oh, my bus is coming! See you on Saturday!

M: Well, I don’t want to publish anything. I just want to raise the standard of my own writing.
W: Yes, it depends on whether you want to, you know, write creatively or for fun. We also have fiction writing that includes writing children’s stories.
M: Well, I work in an advertising agency, so I’d like to write better so that I’d like my salary to rise.
W: OK, so we can send you our brochure for business writing and if you think it’ll be right for you, then you can sign up.

For those of you who love watching films, let me tell you about a new outdoor summer cinema. It’s been set up in the hills with beautiful views in all directions. The size of the cinema screen is fantastic, and the quality of the sound system is so good. There are no seats because members of the audience can sit on the ground wherever they like. The temperatures don’t drop in the evenings during summer, so you won’t need a blanket or a coat, but I do suggest taking a cushion with you because it can get rather uncomfortable after the first hour or two of sitting there. So, how do you get to this cinema from the city? If you have a car, there are plenty of parking spaces and the trip is about four kilometers. Otherwise, you’ll need to rely on public transport, unless, that is, you have enough energy for a five-kilometer walk along a narrow path. When I visited earlier this week, I saw that some people had brought a picnic with them—the perfect thing to enjoy after the movie. Some other people tried to light a barbecue—but that’s against the rules. And one final word of advice. It’s not a good idea to arrive at the cinema without a ticket because numbers are limited for health-and-safety reasons. Tickets are available from any supermarket in the city.

根据文章Manarola中的“There are no cars here, no traffic lights, and no traffic noise. You can drive to it, but you have to park outside the town and then take a shuttle bus or walk in on foot.(这里没有汽车,没有红绿灯,也没有交通噪音。你可以开车去,但你得把车停在城外,然后乘班车或步行进去。)”可知,在小镇马纳罗拉,游客不得驾车观光。故选A。
根据文章Marsaxlokk中的“Today, this picture-like town is the main supplier of fish to the island nation that sits in the Mediterranean Sea. It has no modern buildings to ruin its attractiveness. (如今,这个风景如画的小镇是这个地中海岛国的主要鱼类供应地。没有现代化的建筑破坏它的吸引力。)”可知,马克斯洛克以鱼和古老的建筑而吸引人。故选C。
23.细节理解题。根据文章Manarola中的“This attractive fishing town is famous for its wine and paintings. (这个迷人的渔业小镇以其葡萄酒和绘画而闻名。)”和Portmagee, Ireland中的“This postcard-perfect seaside fishing town has brightly colored buildings with a rich and colorful history. For the past two years, Gordon’s students have been studying ways to kill bacteria in zero gravity, and they think they’re close to a solution(解决方案).可知,HUNCH旨在把高中教室和NASA的工程师联系起来。Gordon的学生一直在研究如何在零重力下杀死细菌;结合最后一段中的Gordon says his students are emailing daily with NASA engineers about the problem, readying a workable solution to test in space.可知,学生每天都给NASA的工程师发邮件一起探讨(如何杀死空间站的细菌这一空间技术)这个问题。由此可推断出HUNCH program的目的把空间技术与学校教育相结合。故D项正确。
26.细节理解题。根据第三段中的Engineers come and really do an in-person review, and...it’s not a very nice thing at times. It’s a hard business review of your product.”

    32.D 33.A 34.D 35.C
由文章第二段“The source of this disruption is a new set of regulations, named the Second Payment Service Directive, or‘PSD2’. The rules, which are being finalised and will be in force from January next year, will force banks to share data easily with licensed third parties. (这种混乱的根源是一套新的法规,名为‘第二支付服务指令’或‘PSD2’。这些规则正在敲定中,将于明年1月生效,将迫使银行与持牌第三方轻松共享数据。)”可知,欧洲银行将要分享他们的数据。故选D项。
33.推理判断题。由文章第二段“Bankers in Europe scream that their profits and customer relationships are under threat. Fearing they could be next,America’s bankers are already trying to persuade their regulators to keep their data monopoly well-preserved. (欧洲的银行家们大声疾呼,他们的利润和客户关系正受到威胁。由于担心他们可能成为下一个,美国的银行家们已经在努力说服他们的监管机构保持他们对数据的垄断。)”可知,欧洲的银行家们对此感到震惊,这将威胁他们的利益。故选A项。
由文章第三段“Some concerns about PSD2 make sense. In particular, it is reasonable to wonder about the privacy and security implications of sensitive financial data being shared with third parties. But banks themselves are hardly immune to cyber attack. And the way that European regulators propose to deal with these worries looks promising. (对PSD2的一些担忧是有道理的。特别是,人们有理由怀疑与第三方共享敏感金融数据对隐私和安全的影响。但银行本身也很难免受网络攻击。欧洲监管机构提出的解决这些担忧的方式看起来很有希望。)”可知,人们对于PSD2担忧是可以理解的,但是没有必要,因为欧洲监管机构会提出的解决这些担忧的方案。故选D项。
35.细节理解题。由文章最后一段“But if some financial technology providers do end up becoming systemically important, higher standards of oversight might be necessary.

故选A。

    66.Dear John,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re suffering from WeChat addiction. I really understand how you feel and I’d like to offer you some useful advice.
First of all, I suggest that you should start some other hobbies, such as reading, listening to music, or playing chess, etc, which will take your mind off WeChat. Besides, you’d better make more friends and communicate with each other face-to-face. They’ll help you out when you can’t resist the temptation of WeChat. Last but not least, it’s better for you to do some sports instead of using WeChat a lot because sports can not only keep you healthy but also enrich your life and help you keep away from WeChat.
I hope you can accept my suggestions and get rid of addiction to WeChat as soon as possible.
    Best wishes!
    Yours sincerely,
    Li Hua
67.We went to the pharmacy (药店) and dropped off the prescription to be filled. Because we were aware of the addictions among the population we were dealing with, we made sure to discuss the situation with the pharmacist, who confirmed that the medicine was legal and not associated with any type of street drug. Then he confirmed the sixty-dollar price. We left with the confidence that everything would workout. We didn’t know how or when.
The very next day, walking into work, I saw an envelope on the ground. It was folded in half and looked as though it had been stepped on a dozen times. I kicked it aside, but then I felt guilty for not picking it up, so I turned around and went back to throw it in the garbage. As I picked it up, I decided to open it. I felt my legs go a bit numb, and I had to lean against the wall when I saw what was inside. There was only one thing in that envelope—a $100 bill.
