Everyone is afraid of something. Maybe you're afraid of spiders, or heights, or dogs, or the dark. And traditionally, we've thought that's because you learned to be afraid.Probably because you had a bad run-in with something at some point. But there's a different idea out there that's been getting more attention lately: the idea that fears aren’t just learned...they also can be inherited(遗传).
It sounds like a wild idea. How do you inherit something as abstract as fear? But over the last fifty years, researchers have been studying just how much fears have to do with inheritance and genetics. And their results have been kind of surprising.
In this work they've put a lot of effort into understanding one extreme kind of fear, called a phobia. To get a sense of how much genes influence fear, scientists have begun looking at identical twins. Since identical twins have almost the same DNA, researchers can figure out how heritable a fear is by comparing how often specific phobias appear in identical twins as opposed to other brothers or sisters. Because even though twins often have lots of similar experiences, they probably don't share the types of experiences that cause phobias-like getting bitten by a dog or falling out of a tree.
One 1998 study of 659 pairs of identical and fraternal twins in Australia looked at how many had a fear of blood. The study found that genetics accounted for 71 percent of the variation among those people, meaning genetic factors play a pretty big role in determining whether a person has some specific fear.
A 2016 study also found that fear of dental work was over 30 percent heritable. So, if you are afraid of going to the dentist, it really might not be your dentist's fault. Overlimit-degree relatives of people with phobias are more likely to have similar phobias than people with no family history.
So, it's pretty clear that phobias are heritable!
24. What does the author mean by saying the underlined sentence in Para.2?
A. It's unbelievable that people can inherit something so abstract like fear.
B. It's surprising that people know so little about inheritance and genetics.
C. It's natural that people become afraid of things that they had bad experience with.
D. It's interesting that people are afraid of so many things such as spiders and the dark.
25. Why did the scientists choose identical twins as their test subjects?
A. They look very much alike.
B.They have shared experiences.
C.They have similar personalities.
D.They share basically the same DNA.
26.What did the author try to prove by mentioning the studies in Paras.4 and 5?
A.Dentists are scary to many kids.
B.Most people have some kind of fear.
C.Fear of blood is the most common phobia.
D.Fear of things can be a result of genetic inheritance.
27.Where does the text probably come from?
A.A travel brochure.
C.A commercial advertisement.
B.A science talk show.
D.A history book.

It isn't just the beauty of vast natural wonders like the Grand Canyon that can take your breath away. You can find awe(敬畏)in everyday thigs.A new research, published in the journal Emotion, found that older adults who took “awe walks”felt more positive emotions in their daily lives.
In the study, 52 older adults aged 60 to 90 were divided randomly into two groups. They were told to take at least one 15-minute walk each week for eight weeks. Volunteers in the “awe group” were instructed in how to inspire awe as they walked. “We asked them to try to see the world with fresh eyes-to take in new details of a leaf or flower, for example,” Sturm says. For example, one participant from the awe group wrote about “the beautiful fall colors and how the leaves were no longer crunchy(嘎吱响)underfoot because of the rain"-the wonder that small children feel as they embrace their expanding world. However, people in the other group were less focused on the world around them. One participant wrote, “I thought about our vacation in Hawaii next Thursday.”
In addition, participants were asked to take selfies(自拍)in the beginning, middle, and end of each walk. Researchers found that participants who took awe walks showed a “small self", in that they filled less of their photographs with their own image and more with the background scenery.“When we feel awe, our attention shifts from focusing on ourselves to focusing on the world around us,” Sturm says.“Awe affects our social relationships because it helps us to feel more connected with theworld, universe, and other people." Their smiles also grew broader by the end of the study. “We analyzed the intensity of their smiles in the selfies, and participants who took awe walks displayed greater smiles over time than those who took control walks. The former reported greater positive emotions in general, including more joy and gratitude.”
Participants in the control group took more frequent walks than those people in the awe group, the researchers discovered. But walking more didn't result in positive changes in emotional health or in the way their selfies were taken. This suggests that the results were mainly due to experiencing awe, and not just in spending time exercising.
28.What were participants i the “awe group” required to do in Para.2?
A.To take a walk each week.
B.To focus on their inner world.
C.To collect leaves after the rain.
D.To explore with childlike curiosity.
29.What can we see in the selfies from the awe walks?
A.Close-up images with wide smiles.
B.More attention on themselves.
C.Simply the background scenery.
D.Small figures with bigger smiles.
30.What can we know from the last paragraph?
A.Experiencing awe counts.
B.More walks,more joy.
C.Exercises can benefit us.
D.Awe comes with walking.
31.Which of the following can be the best title?
A.Awe Walks Promote Your Physical Fitness
B Experiencing Awe Does Wonders for Everyone
C.Awe Walks Improve Your Positive Emotions
D. Frequent Walks Contribute to Emotional Health

After lab-grown meat, are you getting ready for animal-free cow's milk? A San Francisco startup believes it has found a solution.
Through a combination of yeast(酵母),cow DNA and plant nutrients,Perfect Day claims to have created a product identical in taste and nutritional value to cow's milk, but without any cows involved. It will satisfy consumers who love eating dairy(乳制品的)ice-cream,cheese and yoghurt, but loathe factory-style farming and its environmental footprint.
Sales of milk alternatives such as soy, coconut and more recently pea milk are expected to be on the rise. But until now they have not cut traditional milk and dairy production.“The alternatives for yoghurt, cheese and ice-cream are so bad that people don't even want to try them,”says Perfect Day co-founder Ryan Pandya.
The missing ingredient(成分)in plant-based alternatives is cow's milk proteins. To make the animal-free cow's milk, Perfect Day puts cow DNA-which is readily available thanks to decades of research by the dairy industry-into yeast and adds sugar to create cow's milk proteins through fermentation(发酵).These milk proteins are then combined with sugar, fats and nutrients to create the final product.
“We're taking plant nutrients and transforming them into animal proteins the same way that cows do using the same milk proteins as found in cow's milk, but much more efficiently, because we're using a yeast cell not an animal,” said Pandya.
Although comparisons have been made with lab-grown meat,Pandya said they are not using novel technology. Many people initially go 'oh is this like lab or test-tube milk’, but that's wrong. There are no test tubes in our fermentation process. The meat folks are trying to invent technology that doesn't exist today, but our milk is made through techniques that have been in use for more than three decades.
32. What does the underlined word “loathe” mean in Paragraph 2?
A.Ignore.
B.Hate.
C.Doubt.
D.Tolerate.
33.Which of the following is a part of Perfect Day's milk-making process?
A.Mixing cow DNA with yeast and sugar.
B. Adding sugar and fats to plant milk.
C.Mixing plant milk with cow milk.
D.Adding cow DNA to plant milk.
34.How is Perfect Day's milk different from pea milk?
A.It costs less energy.
B.It is cheaper in price.
C.It has cow's milk proteins.
D. It contains less sugar and fats.
35.What does Pandya think of their product?
A.It tastes like test-tube milk.
B. It needs to be tested further.
C. It is well-received by green food lovers.
D.It is produced with existing technology.

The young boy saw me, or rather, he saw the car and quickly ran up to me, eager to sell his bunches(束) of bananas and bags of peanuts. Though he appeared to be about twelve, he seemed to have already known the sadness of life. “Banana 300 naira. Peanuts 200 naira.”He said in a low voice.I bargained(与......讨价还价)him down to 200 total for the fruit and nuts. When he agreed, I handed him a 500 naira bill. He didn't have change. So I told him not to worry. He said thanks and smiled a row of perfect teeth..
When, two weeks later, I saw the boy again, I was more aware of my position in a society where it's that common to see a little boy who should be in school standing on the corner selling fruit in the burning sun. My parents had raised me to be aware of the advantage we had been afforded and the responsibility it brought to us.
I pulled over and rolled down my window. He had a bunch of bananas and a bag of peanuts ready. I waved them away.“What's up?” I asked him. “I...I don't have money to buy books for school.” I reached into my pocket and handed him two fresh 500 naira bills.“Will this help?” I asked. He looked around nervously before taking the money. One thousand naira was a lot of money to someone whose family probably made about 5,000 naira or less each year. “Thank you, sir.” He said.“Thank you very much!”
When driving home, I wondered if my little friend actually used the money for schoolbooks. What if he’s a swindler(骗子)?And then I wondered why I did it. Did I do it to make myself feel better? Was I using him? Later, I realized that I didn't know his name or the least bit about him, nor did I think to ask.

2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
