Some artists are inspired by paints, and others by photography. For Rachel Hedges, the owner and creator of Bebito handmade toys, it was a green Electro-Grand De Luxe sewing machine.
After graduating from college as a music major, which Rachel jokingly admits wasn't exactly “a fast track to steady income”, she wasn't sure of what her next move would be. But whatever her plans were, Rachel knew they would be connected with creativity. So when she received the old sewing machine from a friend's mother, she began to create. Reusing fabrics(衣料), she let toys from her imagination form under her fingertips.
Throughout her six years as a crafter(手工艺者), Rachel has continued to make these strange creatures and has stayed true to her belief in reusing and recycling. So most of her adorable toys are made from found materials. Some of the materials are known as “guilt fabrics”. Parts of these good-intentioned cloths become Dolores, one of Rachel's first and favorite creations. Rachel and her friends have developed a story about this doll, and one day Rachel hopes to share Dolores' story with her fans in the pages of a coloring book or children's story.
Fabrics for Sweater Kitty are some of Rachel's favorite materials because of the stories people share with her when they give up their sweaters. However, not all of the fabrics are donateD.
When Rachel began making and creating, it was high time for crafts. She joined the then-97 people on Etsy, an online community of small business owners and crafters. Seeing her new-found art praised by her community and with her success on Etsy, Rachel found encouragement. “And it just snowballed, ” she says. “In the next two to three years, crafting will grow rapidly. ”

When you see a snowy owl(雪鸮), it's clear how the bird probably got its name: they're snow-white. Males are usually whiter than females. As males grow older, they get whiter. The females never become completely white, remaining brownish with darker markings.
These large owls mainly live in the Arctic in the open, treeless areas called tundrA. Snowy owls perch on the ground or on short posts. From there they patiently watch for prey(猎物). Their favorite target is lemmings—small mouselike rodents—but they also hunt for other small rodents, rabbits, birds and fish.
Snowy owls have excellent eyesight, but they obviously can't see their prey when it's underneath snow or a thick layer of plants. To catch those meals, the owl relies on its other keen sense: hearing.
Most owls sleep during the day and hunt at night, but the snowy owl is active during the day, especially in the summertime. They would like to be most active at dawn and dusk.
Snowy owl pairs usually mate for life. Female snowy owls lay from 3 to 11 eggs at a time, in a nest built on the grounD. When there is plenty of food available, snowy owls will lay more eggs. Then the female snowy owl sits on her eggs until they hatch. The male feeds her while she keeps their eggs warm and safe. After about one month, the eggs hatch.
Babies are covered in soft white down when they hatch. As new feathers replace the down, the birds become light brown. The young leave the nest less than a month after they hatch. By the time they're about one and a half months old, the young owls can fly well, but their parents take care of them for another ten weeks or more.

Ⅱ. 七选五
On a warm spring morning in 1984, Dong Yaohui and his two young friends pulled on backpacks and set out on a hike of the Great Wall. Their walk began in Shanhai Pass. 1 By sunset, they took shelter in ancient towers where soldiers once stood guard, perhaps watching for invaders from the north.
The walk of 17 months and 8, 850 kilometers tested persistence. 2 The trip would not only change their lives but the fortunes of the wall itself, helping preserve it and lift it to the status it holds today.
On completing their journey, they published their experiences in a book. As they shared their adventures, it became clear that it was not just the physical demands but also the emotional impact that left lasting impressions.
3 Since then, China has taken a number of measures to protect the attraction. In 2006, for instance, the State Council issued the regulation on the Protection of Great Wall to strengthen laws concerning its preservation and regulate activities on the structure.
The Cultural Relics Administrative Department has been given control over the overall protection of the Great Wall. 4
Dong places his hands on the weathered wall, as he did 35 years ago. But today, he thinks more deeply about a mission grander than his own journey. “Someone dug up some earth, making it into a brick, ” he says. “Someone else brought it all the way up the mountain and built a wall. Then many people guarded the wall for hundreds of years. The Great Wall is definitely alive. 5 ”
A.It isn't just a cold, stone wall.
B.Preservation requires the efforts of all society.
C.From there they went forward to the vast west.
D.It wound its way and reached into the Bohai SeA.
E.It made them the first ever to walk the whole length.
