Lanzarote, SpainLanzarote has long been a top getaway choice for the British, making up around half of the island’s overseas visitors. However, the days of budget drinking until dawn is over, as the Spanish President wants to attract “higher quality” visitors to spend more and drink less. The island declared itself a tourist-packed area early in 2023. Barcelona, SpainBarcelona has it all: modem art, a massive beach, all-night parties, and the food, culture and sunshine you want from a European city break. It’s also full of tourists. In 2022, the city took steps to limit the size of tour groups and introduce noise restrictions. The city will further limit numbers to ensure better life quality for locals. Santorini, GreeceThe Greek island attracts two million visitors annually, a significant number considering the island’s year-round population of around 10,000. While tourism is a large part of the economy, the island started restrictions in 2019, when passengers were limited to 8,000 per day and tourists weighing over 100kg were banned from riding donkeys. Amalfi Coast, ItalyIn 2022, Amalfi Coast took number plate system for visitors. Cars with odd (奇数的) number plates were allowed access to the coast on one day, while cars ending in an even number were permitted to enter on the next. Local residents and public transport were exception. The coast also featured on Fodor’s list of places to avoid visiting in 2023 for its over-tourism.21Which destination do British people like to go most?ALanzarote in Spain. BBarcelona in Spain.CSantorini in Greece. DAmalfi Coast in Italy.22Who will be banned from riding donkeys in Santorini?ALocal residents.  BOverweighted visitors.CNoisy and heavy drinkers.  DVisitors from tour groups.23How does Amalfi Coast control its number of visitors?ABy banning low-quality visitors.   BBy limiting the size of tour groups.CBy keeping its visitors to 8,000 a day. DBy using car number plate system.BI was 11 years old when I asked my mom for piano lessons in 2010. We were in the economic crisis. She said a polite “no”. That didn’t stop me. I searched the measurements of a keyboard, drew the keys on a piece of paper and stuck it on my desk. I would click notes on an online keyboard and “play” them back on my paper one—keeping the sound they made on the computer in my head. I spent six months playing without touching a real piano. Once my mom saw that I was serious, she borrowed money and bought me 10 lessons. I still remember the first one. I was struck by how real the sound of the piano was. I sat my grade one after eight lessons. Once I started secondary school, we couldn’t afford lessons again. I passed grade three, and then grade five, practicing only on my piece of paper. One evening, when I was about 13, my mom said she had a surprise for me; it was an electronic keyboard, bought with more borrowed money. It was the first time I’d played for her. She was in shock. My school didn’t offer music A-level. I found the Purcell School for young musicians. But I had to pass a difficult test. Some of the questions involved an evaluation of the composer or when some piece was written. I felt overwhelmed. To my amazement, I was offered a place. At the Purcell School. I spent two years working as hard as I could, performed to raise money and saved enough to buy my first piano. When I left the Purcell School, I was awarded the senior piano prize and senior academic music prize. I am now at the Guildhall School in London. I feel proud—it’s been 10 years since I drew my paper piano, and I’m at one of the world’s leading music schools. The irony is that I continue to do a lot of my practice away from the piano--what we call mental practice. The paper piano helped arouse my curiosity about how music works and the building blocks that form the pieces.24Why did the author’s mom buy him lessons at last?AShe was shocked by his first performance.BShe had no doubt about his talent for piano.CShe realized he meant what he said.DShe suddenly made a fortune.25Which of the following can best describe the author?AHonest. BDeterminedCHumorous DOptimistic26What did the underlined word “irony” in the last paragraph show?AThe author felt surprised. BThe author felt proud.CThe author felt satisfied DThe author felt disappointed.27What’s the author’s main purpose of writing this article?ATo introduce the method of mental practice.BTo share how he convinced his mom to buy a piano.CTo describe how costly it is to learn an instrument.DTo encourage people to stick to their dreams.CIf you had boarded a passenger plane in 1950, you would have seen five people in the cockpit (驾驶舱): two pilots, a radio operator, a navigator and a flight engineer. Over the years, technical advances have gradually removed the need for the last three, leaving just two pilots. That has been the norm (标准) in commercial aviation for decades. However, things could be simplified further — one of the two remaining pilots could soon go. Many military aircraft are already manned by a single pilot, and for commercial aviation this would mean stepping into a brave new world. But how will airlines make this brave innovation come true? One way is to greatly increase automation in the cockpit, devoting more tasks to computers. Another is to shift the same tasks from the cockpit to the ground. “The latter approach seems to be more workable, at least in the short term, because much of what is required already exists,” says Patrick Smith, an airline pilot flying Boeing 767 aircraft. “A trained ground operator could observe a number of flights at once and even fully control the plane remotely if needed.”It’s true that single-pilot operations could help airlines save money, but there is another reason which makes them quicken their pace for this crucial breakthrough. Boeing predicts a need for 600,000 new pilots in the next two decades, but by some estimates, there will be a deficit (赤字) of at least 34,000 pilots globally by 2025. Reducing the number of pilots on some crews or aircraft could lessen the impact of this.Perhaps the biggest barrier to a single pilot will be selling the idea to passengers. In 2019, Don Hairis, a professor at Coventry University, conducted a survey on the prospect of flying on an airliner with just one pilot. Just a minority of participants said they’d be willing to take that flight, and the general idea was that removing a pilot increased the possibility of accidents. In the study, Harris concluded that the single-crew airliner would be still probably 20 years away.28What is the potential trend in commercial aviation according to the text?AIt will make air travel eco-friendly.BIt will switch to single-pilot operations.CIt will tighten its flight control for safety concerns.DIt will bring in many military aircraft to the industry.29What does Patrick Smith think is a quick way to realize airlines’ brave innovation?ARaising the standards in admitting new pilots. BMaking pilots adaptable to different situations.CUsing computers to automate the flight process. DGaining piloting support from ground operators.30What does the underlined word “this” in paragraph 4 refer to?AThe shortage of pilots. BThe need for new airlines.CThe airlines’ brave innovation. DThe financial problem airlines face.31What can be inferred from Don Harris’ study?AThe prospect of single-crew airliners is bright.BIt's urgent that airlines reduce airplane accidents.CPassengers are willing to try new types of airplanes.DAirlines have a long way to go before the innovation occurs.DWhen you’re going through a period of anxiety or depression it can be difficult to make decisions, whether those are significant life changes or everyday choices. Those with generalized anxiety disorder or mood disorders often report feeling uncomfortable with or being troubled by feelings of uncertainty-which doesn’t help when you need to make a decision, big or small. Now in a new study, researchers find that people with higher levels of anxiety and depression are less able to adapt to fast-changing situations. But with the right intervention(干预)there may be ways to help those with anxiety or depression make better decisions in the moment. Participants were aged between 18 and 55; some had symptoms of generalized anxiety disorder or major depressive disorder, while others had no history of mental illness at all. In the study, after filling in measures related to anxiety, depression, and worry, participants took part in a video game. In each round, they were asked to choose between two shapes: picking one shape resulted in a reward, while the other delivered an electric shock. The task took place in two blocks-one stable, in which one shape was associated with a reward 75% of the time and the other 25% of the time, and the other unstable, in which the shape with a higher probability of resulting in reward switched every twenty trials. In the unstable block, therefore, the participants had to keep adjusting their responses as the probabilities change. Those participants with symptoms of anxiety or depression were slower to adjust their responses to the changes in probabilities. This suggests that mood disorders are associated with difficulty making decisions in changing circumstances. Senior author Sonia Bishop argues that those participants who adapted quickly did so because of their emotional resilience(适应力). Emotionally resilient people tend to focus on what gave them a good outcome, and in many real-world situations that might be key to learning to make good decisions, she says. Sonia Bishop suggests that encouraging people to focus on past successes rather than failures could be a useful behavioral intervention, making those difficult decisions a bit less tricky.32According to the text, which of the following affects decision-making?AFeeling uncomfortable with someone.BFeeling unsure of what will happen.CWondering who will make a decision.DWondering how to help make a decision.33What was the purpose of the unstable block?ATo create a fast-changing situation.BTo train participants to respond to changes.CTo make the video game more challenging.DTo help those with anxiety make decisions.34Why does Sonia Bishop suggest focusing on past successes?ATo improve decision-making.BTo remember the achievements.CTo adapt quickly to a new situation.DTo avoid making difficult decisions.35What advice can be given according to the study?ATry to think quickly when making decisions.BDon’t expect too much when making decisions.CDon’t focus on one single thing when making decisions.DReduce your anxiety or depression when making decisions.第二节(5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Field trips have now become a popular and well-established method of education. A field trip is a journey organized by schools or educational institutions to a place outside of the classroom.     36     Therefore, the activities during a field trip are often designed to provide them with hands-on experiences.Field trips can be taken to a variety of destinations. The most popular ones include museums, factories, zoos and botanical gardens. Field trips can also involve visits to historical sites and other places of interest. Sometimes even an outing to a park nearby can make a good field trip.     37    Field trips help improve academic performance. Participants in a field trip are engaged in various activities about a subject matter.     38     They could also pick up new knowledge through observation and interaction. Studies provide evidence that field trips can increase students’ test scores.    39     During a field trip, students are exposed to interactive activities and novel experiences that are not often available in a classroom, which awakens their interest and helps them rediscover the joy in study. This may be particularly important for students who are struggling academically.A field trip can be challenging to organize due to factors such as high costs and safety concerns.     40     Teachers regard this outing as a good way of helping students and developing a good relationship with them. Students, moreover, may remember the experience of the school field trip as a highlight of the school year.AField trips also promote a love of learning.BThat is why field trips are in decline in recent years.CIn this way, they could gain a better understanding of it.DIt is intended to help students learn in a real-world context.EThe quality of a field trip always depends on its destination.FStill, it is believed that a well-chosen field trip is worth the difficulties.GWhatever the destination is, the key is to make sure the trip is practical. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30)第一节(15小题;每小1,15分)阅读下短文,从短文各题所给ABCD四个选,选出可填入空白处最佳选项,并在答题纸上将该项涂黑。For many people today reading is no longer relaxation. To keep up their work they must read letters, reports, trade publications, interoffice communications, not to mention newspapers and magazines; a never-ending flood of words. In getting a job advancing, the ability to read and comprehend ___41___ can mean the difference between success and failure. Yet the unfortunate fact is that most of us are ___42___ readers. Most of us develop poor reading habits at an early age, and never ___43___ them. The main shortage lies in the actual stuff of language itself – words. Taken individually, words have little___44___ until they are combined together into phrases, sentences and paragraphs. Unfortunately, ___45___, the untrained reader does not read groups of words. He read one word at a time with difficulty, often regressing to ___46___ words or passages. Regression, namely, the tendency to look back over what you have just read, is a common ___47___ habit in reading. Another bad habit which ___48___ the speed of reading is vocalization(发声) –sounding each word either ___49___ or mentally as one reads. To overcome these bad habits, some reading clinics use a device called an accelerator, which moves a bar (or curtain) down the page at a predetermined speed. The bar is set a slightly ___50___ rate than the reader finds comfortable, in order to “___51___” him. The accelerator forces the reader to read fast, making word-by-word reading, regression and sub-vocalization, practically ___52___. At first comprehension___53___ speed. But when you learn to read ideas and concepts, you will not only read faster, but your comprehension will improve. Many people have found their reading skill ___54___ improved after some training. Take Charles Au, a business manager, for instance, his reading rate was a reasonably good 172 words a minute before the training, now it is an excellent 1,378 words a minute. He is delighted that now he can go through a lot more reading material in a(n) ___55___ period of time.41. A.quickly B.silently C.thoroughly D.vaguely42. A.casual B.curious C.efficient D.poor43. This was the same feeling that overwhelms me every year. But this year it was different, because if I failed this exam I would not graduate. I sat there, panic stricken, unable to move. Pressure crushed in on me. What if I could not go to high school? Would Dad and Mum kick me out of their house?I took two deep breaths and looked up. I could see the teacher pacing up and down. The classroom was dead silent except for the clock. Tick Tock. Tick Tock. I checked the clock for the third time. Ten minutes left! I clenched (握紧) and unclenched my fist in an attempt to calm myself. Think! I told myself. I knew I could do this. My hand couldn’t help trembling. Then I scribbled (胡乱写下) the first few words that hit me.“It isn’t my fault...”I stared blankly at those words. At the comer of my eye, I could see my teacher walking towards me. She was checking on our progress! Dread built up within me. Then, I glanced at the four words again. Without any warning, my hand moved to write.Hair on my arms stood as the teacher leaned in and started to read my work. I peered over to see my teacher’s expression, praying that my work had not brought in disappointment. To my astonishment, she displayed a clear satisfaction! That was good, wasn’t it? I hurriedly looked down at my essay.I skimmed it through. I felt proud. Now, there’s something I was still worried about. I checked the clock. Two minutes left! I was still writing!I bit my lip, took a deep breath, and concentrated on writing. I heard the teacher leave.“There’s one minute left. Please check your work.” the teacher reminded us.注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。Paragraph 1:“One minute left?” I shouted. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Paragraph 2:A week later, the teacher handed the papers back to us. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
