It was one of the great d 45 of the 20th century. We can never be completely sure of the numbers, but people agree that about 2,200 people were on the ship at that time. However, there were not e 46 lifeboats for everyone, and only around 700 people survived. Of course, the film Titanic was very successful, yet we should always find out what is fiction(虚构) and what is reality.
We should realize that most of the action in the film never a 47 happened. For example, the story of Jack and Rose, the young man and woman who fall in love, is complete fiction. They are not real people and their story may not be true at all.
At the same time, some of the c 48 in the film were based on real people, but the film changes the truth about them. For example, Molly Brown was a real p 49 on the ship. In the film, Brown is on a lifeboat and asks the lifeboat captain if they should go back to look for people in the water. When the lifeboat captain refuses to go back, she says nothing. In real life, Molly Brown fought with the lifeboat captain, turned the lifeboat around, and tried her best to s 50 others. Although she is quiet in the film, she was really a hero to many people in real life.
A 51 real-life person in the film is First Officer William Murdoch. The film shows that he shot other people before he killed himself. In real life, however, many people agree that he died because he tried to get a lifeboat into the water so that more people could have a chance to survive.

    八、阅读回答问题
    阅读短文,根据短文内容用英语回答问题,每题答案不超过5个单词。
We always think that it is OK to leave our plants unattended (无人照料的) during our vacation since we believe that they will survive just fine. After all, plants won’t make noise like pets, so they must be okay. Well, a recent study has found a different answer. A group of scientists from the Tel Aviv University have discovered that some plants scream in a high frequency when they “think” they are in danger.
Scientists did the research on tomato plants by cutting their stems and depriving (剥夺) them of water. A microphone was put 10 cm away from the plants to collect their sound. When the scientists started cutting the stems, the plants began screaming between 20 and 100 kilohertz, which the scientists believe was to warn other plants nearby. When the tomato plants’ stems were cut, 25 ultrasonic sounds were recorded in an hour. When they did not receive enough water, the microphone got even more: 35 times in an hour.
For the first time in history, scientists seem to have evidence that, like animals, plants can make noise in face of difficulty. “People have always believed that plants are silent,” one of the scientists said. “But the truth is that their voices are so high-pitched (高音调的) that we just can’t hear them.”
52.What did scientists do the research on?

53.When would plants make noise according to the passage?

54.What did the scientists put near the plants to collect sound?

55.Why did the plants scream according to the scientists?

56.How do you feel after knowing plants can make noise?

【答案】52.Tomato plants. 53.In face of difficulty. 54.A microphone. 55.Because they are in danger. 56.That sounds interesting.
