    High school was a hard time for me in the beginning because I had just moved to a small town and knew basically no one. I loved to play basketball but was afraid to go to tryout(选拔) for the school team because I didn't know anyone. One day all that changed when I missed the bus home and decided to shoot baskets on the school playground to kill time. The coach Mr Colbath had been watching me make various baskets and was pretty impressed with my moves.
    He came up to me and asked me who had taught me to play like that I told him that my dad had taught me how to play basketball. He asked me if he would see me at the tryout on Friday, but I said no and told him why. He told me to have a try because I played very well and would maybe make some friends on the court. After thinking for a few minutes, I finally decided to have a try.
    On the day of the tryout, the coach came, found me and helped me practise before the tryout. He helped me a lot and I did very well at the tryout and many members of the team were quite impressed. I did make the team and over the next few years the coach helped me both on and off the court. He helped me do my math which I had such a difficult time with and he even taught me how to live independently.
    I will never forget Mr Colbath. He really inspired me and changed my life. I would not be the person that I am today if he had not taken such an interest in me when I was in high school.

    It was a comfortable sunny Sunday. I was going to meet an old university friend I hadn't seen for years, and was really excited.
    My train was running a little late, but that was no big problem—I could text him to say I would be late. He would understand. But where was my mobile phone? I had that familiar sinking feeling. Yes, I'd left it at home.
    No mobile phone. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling anxious, on edge and worried when I don't have my phone with me. In fact, I know I'm not alone: two-thirds of us experience nomophobia(无手机恐惧症) the fear of being out of mobile phone contact.
    That's according to a study from 2012, which surveyed 1,000 people in the UK about their relationship with mobile phones.
    It says we check our mobile phones 34 times a day, and that 18—24-year-olds, especially girls, are the most likely to suffer fear of being without their mobiles: 77% of them say they are unable to be apart from their phones for more than a few minutes.

    This was the first real task I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington. As I searched the name, I found that there were two famous people having the same name who looked completely different! I felt that it was not fair, and I believed I deserved a second chance. So I threw myself heartily into my work for the rest of the school year.     When 16-year-old John first entered high school four years ago, he worked very hard, and always got very good grades. Besides, he was very active in sports. To get up very early every morning to practice running, he never took the school bus to school, he always ran there. He even won a silver medal in the 800-meter race at the school sports meeting a year ago. As a reward, his parents bought him a computer. Something began to change. He stopped getting up early and never ran to school. His interest in sports suddenly disappeared. Sometimes he got up so late that he would miss the school bus and thus didn’t go to school. Soon his school work began to suffer. One day in the middle of the night his mother saw the light in John’s room. She went in and discovered the cause of John’s change. John had played the computer games late into the middle of the night ever since he had his computer. This had bad effects on his study and he suffered from lack of sleep. This must be stopped.
