I’m ashamed to say that, as the years have gone by, I haven’t taken the time to walk around my neighborhood.Sure, I’m out and about all the time but always in the car to my way out of the neighborhood.
The main reason is that I don’t love my neighborhood anymore.I’m referring to the place, not the people. My street used to come to an end in a forest. We would walk the dogs in the forest that always had nice, seasonal flowers and shrubs (灌木) coming up all year round. Now it’s gone and been replaced (取代) by a forest of high-rise buildings.
Pretty down because of some annoying (烦人的) office work these days,I decided I just had to get out and walk today. It started at the building “forest”.I still felt pain in my heart from the sight and I missed those days of walking the dog and taking in the beauty of the trees and shrubs and flowers.
As I continued on, though, I came across this.
Some very artistic children created some lovely, colorful artwork and I couldn’t help but think they must have been trying to make me and everyone else just feel better. It certainly worked on me.Thank you, thoughtful artists!
At one point, I saw a man walking across one of the wider, busier streets.I shouted, “I just wanted to say hi to someone!” He answered, looking very friendly and happy, smiling and waving (挥手).
As I approached (走近) the last couple of streets of my walk, the winds began to blow. There were dark clouds behind me so I decided to head home.Luckily, the rain didn’t come down until I was resting on the sofa.
I was glad I went out.
1.Why did the author seldom walk around his neighborhood?
A.He was a homebody. B.He was too busy with his work.
C.He didn’t like the environment. D.He didn’t get along with the people.
2.How did the author feel at the start of his walk?
A.Sad. B.Angry.
C.Lonely. D.Surprised.
3.What does the underlined word “It” in Paragraph 5 refer to?
A.Creating artwork. B.What the children did.
C.Meeting famous artists. D.How to cheer people up.
4.What happened during the author’s walk?
A.He came across an old friend. B.He was caught in the rain suddenly.
C.He received children’s artwork as a gift. D.He made a neighborly connection with a stranger.

Unluckily, there are some rules that teenagers should be allowed to learn in school, but not. They are important to teenagers, although not all of them have to do with their subjects.
Rule 1: Life is not fair. Try to learn to get used to it. Many people won't understand the real meaning of this rule until they've failed to find fairness again and again.
Rule 2: The real world won't care about you as much as your school does. It will expect you to learn to understand the real world after you leave school. Then you'll be sure of what to do with real world.
Rule 3: If you think your teacher is terrible, wait until you get a boss. Your boss won't ask how you feel about your work and will never give you more care or help. He'll only care about how much money you can help him earn.
Rule 4: TV is not real life. Your life is not a sitcom (情景喜剧). Your problems won't be solved in 30 or 45 minutes. In real life, people usually have to leave the coffee stores to look for jobs.
Rule 5: Smoking does not make you look cool. Instead, it makes you look moronic (低能的). At the same time, purple hair and pierced body parts make you look like a silly kid. A grownup teenager should know how to be smart.
1.How will the real world treat teenagers when they leave school?
A.It'll care about them as their schools do. B.It'll tell them what it's really like.
C.It'll give them more help and chances. D.It'll explain to them how to be smart.
2.What does the underlined word “earn” mean in Chinese?
A.挣钱 B.拯救
C.花费 D.浪费
3.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.These rules can be learned at school by teenagers.
B.For teenagers, life is like a sitcom and it's always full of joy and surprises.
C.Smoking should not be allowed when you are a teenager at school.
D.Teenagers will meet fair bosses when they go to work.
4.What can we infer from the passage?
A.The writer might be a teacher who has much experience.
B.No teenagers can really understand the real world.
C.Almost all teenagers won't be able to get used to the future life.
D.There is much more for teenagers to learn when they leave school.
D
Have you ever wondered why people drive on a different side of the road? It might seem bizarre that U.K.drivers stay on the left, but they’re not the only ones.Around 35 percent of the world population do the same, including people in Ireland,Japan, and some Caribbean islands.
Originally, almost everybody traveled on the left side of the road. However, their way of transport was quite different from today:Think about four legs instead of four wheels. For Medieval swordsmen on horseback,it made sense to keep to the left to have their right arms closer to their enemies.Getting on or off was also easier from the left side of the horse, and safer done by the side of the road than in the center.
So why did people stop traveling on the left? Things changed in the late 1700s when large wagons(货车) pulled by several pairs of horses were used to transport farm products in France and the United States. The wagon driver sat behind the left horse, with his right arm free to use his whip to keep the horses moving.Since he was sitting on the left position,he wanted other wagons to pass on his left,so he kept to the right side of the road.
The British Government refused to give up their left-hand driving ways, and in 1773 introduced the General Highways Act,which encouraged driving on the left. This was later made law thanks to The Highway Act of 1835.
When Henry Ford showed his Model T in 1908,the driver’s seat was on the left, meaning that cars would have to drive on the right hand side of the road to allow front and back passengers to exit the car onto the roadside. However,British drivers remain on the left, and this is highly unlikely to change.
1.What does the underlined word “bizarre” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.Funny. B.Strange.
C.Wrong. D.Difficult.
2.Why did people riding the horse travel on the left in history?
A.It was safer to keep on the left.
B.It was easier to carry goods.
C.It was easier for them to fight.
D.It was necessary to control the horse.
3.What made drivers of large wagons travel on the right?
A.Their sitting position.
B.The road conditions.
C.The number of horses.
D.The products in the wagons.
4.Which of the following may be the best title for the text?
A.UK Drivers Still Go on the Left
B.Why People Like Sitting on the Left Side
C.The History of Transportation Means
D.The Reasons for Different Driving Sides

How to Plan a Vacation?
A vacation is supposed to be a fun and relaxing break from your everyday life.
1 Be ready to enjoy your time off by planning your travel, accommodations, and activities ahead of time. Giving yourself plenty of time to plan can be a fun way to build up excitement for your vacation.
Decide why you want to travel. 2 Thinking of whether your goal is to relax and unwind, have new adventures, see famous or ancient sights, or provide your children with lifelong memories will determine what kind of destination you should choose.
3 Instead of making this a chore, have it be a fun activity. Over the course of a few days, weeks or other long duration you wish, spend some time talking about each place and why it would make a good destination.
Research destination costs. While you may take more time after choosing a destination to find great deals on travel and hotel arrangements, doing a quick online search of approximate costs to travel to each destination may help you narrow your choices based on your budget.
Choose a destination. 4 If there is disagreement, find a way to compromise.
Choose when to travel. Depending on the season, a destination which is normally too hot or cold for you to consider might have a more enjoyable climate at a different time of the year. 5
A.Consider everyone who will be travelling with you.
B.Discuss possible destinations with your fellow travellers.
C.Ideally, everyone who is travelling will agree on the same place.
D.However, a poorly planned vacation can end up being a major headache.
E.If you know why you want to leave home, choosing a destination will be easier.
F.This might also be reflected in a lower cost, if you decide to travel out of season.
G. Keep in mind expenses to travel, stay and eat while you are developing your estimates.

I was lacking in everything needed to start a new friendship.
My parents moved to the town when they decided to look for new jobs but they didn't realize I was really hurt when I said goodbye to my old friends. It felt awful to be a new student in the school and when my classmates were chatting, what I could do was to be caught up in my thoughts watching the clouds outside the window. I was not good at math or history; nor was I good at drawing or dancing. I was shy and timid. I had a few friends back at my hometown and it seemed that they were the only ones who I could be friends with for my whole life. I felt I had achieved a point of saturation with regard to having friends and I could make no further addition to my friend list. I was ashamed of myself, so I believed I deserved no notice from others until Emily came to my world.
Emily was fearless, outspoken and easy to go. She was everything I was not and I was too shy to come out of my shell. I met Emily in school almost every day and yet I never talked to her. We were in the same class but we were like poles apart. How I wished I could be like her or at least be a friend of hers!
It was another ordinary day.
I wandered to the bus stop in the morning and waited for the school bus. Birds were singing songs with their friends but who could I sing songs with? I got on the bus and went straight to my usual seat, complaining in a low voice about getting up early and going to school like every other day, and about how things were going to be the same all over again. Little did I realize something different would happen that day.
注意:
1.续写的词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
When I got up to get off the bus, my schoolbag was stuck in the armrest. ______
I got noticed by Emily, who brought me courage to start a new friendship!
