It is depending n NASA HUNCH high schl classrms, like the ne science teachers Gene Grdn and Dnna Himmelberg lead at Fairprt High Schl in Fairprt, New Yrk.
HUNCH is designed t cnnect high schl classrms with NASA engineers. Fr the past tw years, Grdn’s students have been studying ways t kill bacteria in zer gravity, and they think they’re clse t a slutin(解决方案). “We dn’t give the students any breaks. They have t d it just like NASA engineers,” says Flrence Gld, a prject manager.
“There are n tests,” Grdn says. “There is n graded hmewrk. There almst are n grades, ther than ‘Are yu wrking twards yur gal?’ Basically, it’s ‘I’ve gt t prduce this prduct and then, at the end f year, present it t NASA.’ Engineers cme and really d an in-persn review, ’s nt a very nice thing at times. It’s a hard business review f yur prduct.”
Grdn says the HUNCH prgram has an impact(影响) n cllege admissins and practical life skills. “These kids are s absrbed in their studies that I just sit back. I dn’t teach.” And that annying bacteria? Grdn says his students are emailing daily with NASA engineers abut the prblem, readying a wrkable slutin t test in space.

As fr ld peple, sme f the applicatins are hard t use because they didn’t grw up with them. They dn’t have simple mdels f hw they shuld wrk, what t d when smething desn’t wrk r where t g fr help. We make it as easy as pssible t be used fr peple wh are nt familiar with the technlgy.
I think there is huge ptential (潜力) and we are designing it. The ability t cnnect t friends, wh remember the same mvies and news and music, is really imprtant, especially as peple get ld. They end up in retirement hmes and they aren’t always clse t their friends. Allwing the netwrk t help them cnnect with friends and family is a really pwerful thing.
My mther is an enthusiastic user f the Internet, althugh it tk me years t get her t use e-mail. She was brn with nrmal hearing, but lst it when she was 3. But befre then, her friends culdn’t call her n the phne, s they insisted she use e-mail t cmmunicate with them.
Yung peple dn’t even think f the Internet as technlgy. It’s just there, and they use it. There’s been a very interesting change in cmmunicatins styles between ld peple and yung peple. There are sme kids wh are nw in their teens and aren’t willing t make phne calls. And they think f e-mail as ld-fashined and slw.
The reasn why teens dn’t make phne calls seems t be that they dn’t knw what t say. When they call they ften stp fr a while and there’s this silence. On the ther hand, texting is cnsidered prper, and it’s kay if yu dn’t answer. Yu might have been distracted. It’s nt cnsidered rude. Mre treasured than the gld in its vaults (金库) are the data a bank has stred n its servers. Banks enjy a mnply ver data that has helped them get away with awful service and fend ff newcmers with better ideas. In Eurpe, at least, that is all abut t change.
The surce f this disruptin is a new set f regulatins, named the Secnd Payment Service Directive, r “PSD2”. The rules, which are being finalised and will be in frce frm January next year, will frce banks t share data easily with licensed third parties. Bankers in Eurpe scream that their prfits and custmer relatinships are under threat. Fearing they culd be next,America’s bankers are already trying t persuade their regulatrs t keep their data mnply well-preserved. Such reactins are predictable and wrng.
Sme cncerns abut PSD2 make sense. In particular, it is reasnable t wnder abut the privacy and security implicatins f sensitive financial data being shared with third parties. But banks themselves are hardly immune t cyber attack. And the way that Eurpean regulatrs prpse t deal with these wrries lks prmising. Third parties that want t use bank data will need t cnvince natinal regulatrs that their data defences are slid and must submit t annual inspectins. New entrants t cyber must als takeut deceptin insurance; their insurers will have a clear reasn t demand state f their cyber security. Many nline payments will becme mre secure than they are tday, because f the fficially instructed requirements fr the use f a vigrus authenticatin prcess invlving tw-step cnfirmatin.
The gap between writing rules and implementing them is always large. S the fllwing might make sense. First, agreement frm custmers t prvide access t their bank data must be gained explicitly, nt buried in pages f wrdy prfessinal terms. The purpses fr which data might be used shuld be clearly explained; and individuals’ agreement t share their persnal infrmatin shuld be easily reversible. Secnd, regulatrs must be decisive and cruel bth in ensuring that banks pen up their database t thers and in withdrawing the licences f third parties that break the rules, particularly n cyber security.
Since the new entrants will nt be licensed t engage in riskier frms f finance—such as lending mney—it makes sense t regulate them with a lighter tuch. But if sme financial technlgy prviders d end up becming systemically imprtant, higher standards f versight might be necessary.
32.Accrding t the authr, what is the change abut t happen t Eurpe?
A.Data stred in servers will fail t ffer service.
B.Banks will better treasure their stred gld than data.
C.Banks will lse cntrl f data stred n their servers.
D.Banks will have t share what they exclusively cntrl.
    33.What’s the ppular respnse f bankers t the t-be-released “PSD2”?
A.They feel alarmed at it.B.They feel cnfused at it.
C.They accept it as ratinal.D.They take it as ridiculus.
34.What des the authr think f the cncerns abut the new set f regulatins?
A.They are predictable and wrng.B.They are reasnable but intlerable.
C.They are unnecessary and insensible.D.They are understandable but unnecessary.
35.What des the authr suggest n the enfrcement f the regulatins?
A.Custmers must be granted the right t privacy.
B.Regulatrs shuld be rugh in cnducting regulatins.
C.Higher running supervisin might be adpted if necessary.
D.New entrants t cyber must takeut deceptin insurance.
