S, in 2001, the cuple decided t try smething else--an experiment in “rewilding”, r restring envirnments t their natural state. They reintrduced native species, including Tamwrth pigs, Exmr pnies, lnghrn cattle, and deer. Then they tk ut all the fences and let the animals wander freely.

Nw it's hme t many different creatures, including tw rare species f bats, nightingales, peregrine falcns, white strks, and even turtle dves, whse numbers have drpped by 98 percent in the U. K. ver the last few decades!

When rbts appear t engage with peple and display human-like emtins, peple may think f them as capable f “thinking”, r acting n their wn beliefs and desires rather than their prgrams, accrding t the research published by the American Psychlgical Assciatin.
“The relatinship between human-like shape, human-like behavir and the tendency t attribute (把……归因于) independent thught and intentinal behavir t rbts is yet t be understd,” said study authr Agnieszka Wykwska, PhD, a principal investigatr at the Italian Institute f Technlgy. “As artificial intelligence increasingly becmes a part f ur lives, it is imprtant t understand hw interacting with a rbt that displays human-like behavirs might cause higher likelihd f attributin f intentinal agency t the rbt.”
Acrss three experiments invlving 119 participants, researchers examined hw individuals wuld see a human-like rbt, the iCub, after scializing with it and watching vides tgether. Befre and after interacting with the rbt, participants cmpleted a questinnaire that shwed them pictures f the rbt in different situatins and asked then t chse whether the rbt’s mtivatin in each situatin was mechanical r intentinal.
The researchers fund that participants wh watched vides with the human-like rbt were mre likely t rate the rbt’s actins as intentinal, rather than prgrammed, while thse wh nly interacted with the machine-like rbt were nt. This shws that mere expsure t a human-like rbt is nt enugh t make peple believe it is capable f thughts and emtins. It is human-like behavir that might be crucial fr being deemed as an intentinal agent.
Accrding t Wykwska, these findings shw that peple might be mre likely t believe artificial intelligence is capable f independent thught when it creates the impressin that it can behave just like humans. “This culd infrm the design f scial rbts f the future,” she said.
8. What were participants asked t d in the experiment?
A. Behave like a rbt.B. Cmplete a questinnaire.
C. Shw pictures f the rbt.D. Watch the behavir f the iCub.
9. What des the underlined wrd ”deemed“ in paragraph4 prbably mean?
A. Believed.B. Persuaded.C. Perfrmed.D. Advcated.
10. What culd the findings be applied t?
A. Addressing sme technique prblems.
B. Creating scial rbts just like humans.
C Guiding the design f future scial rbts.
D. Develping artificial intelligence industry.
11. What wuld be a suitable title fr the text?
A. Human-like rbts can interact with humans
B. Human-like rbts can behave just like humans
C. Artificial intelligence has becme part f ur lives
D. Human-like rbts may be believed t have mental states

D yu think yu’re smarter than yur parents and grandparents? Accrding t James Flynn, a prfessr at a New Zealand university, yu are! Over the curse f the last century, peple wh have taken IQ tests have gtten increasingly better scres---n average, three pints better fr every decade that has passed. This imprvement is knwn as “the Flynn effect”, and scientists want t knw what is behind it.
IQ tests and ther similar tests are designed t measure general intelligence rather than knwledge. Flynn knew that intelligence is partly inherited frm ur parents and partly the result f ur envirnment and experiences, but the imprvement in test scres was happening t quickly t be explained by heredity. S what was happening in the 20th century that was helping peple achieve higher scres n intelligence tests?
Scientists have prpsed several explanatins fr the Flynn effect. Sme suggest that the imprved test scres simply reflect an increased expsure t tests in general. Because we take s many tests, we learn test-taking techniques that help us perfrm better n any test. Others have pinted t better nutritin since it results in babies being brn larger, healthier, and with mre brain develpment than in the past. Anther pssible explanatin is a change in educatinal styles, with teachers encuraging children t learn by discvering things fr themselves rather than just memrizing infrmatin. This culd prepare peple t d the kind f prblem slving that intelligence tests require.
Flynn limited the pssible explanatins when he lked carefully at the test data and discvered that the imprvement in scres was nly n certain parts f the IQ test. Test-takers didn’t d better n the arithmetic r vcabulary sectins f the test; they did better n sectins that required a special kind f reasning and prblem slving. Fr example ne part f the test shws a set f abstract shapes, and test-takers must lk fr patterns and cnnectins between them and decide which shape shuld be added t the set. Accrding t Flynn, this visual intelligence imprves as the amunt f technlgy in ur lives increases. Every time yu play a cmputer game r figure ut hw t prgram a new cell phne, yu are exercising exactly the kind f thinking and prblem slving that helps yu d well n ne kind f intelligence test. S are yu really smarter than yur parents? In ne very specific way, yu may be.

A. nt cnnected t ur experiences
B. unknwn in sme parts f the wrld
C. an increase in IQ test scres ver time
D. used t measure peple’s intelligence
13. Accrding t the article, newer educatinal techniques include __ .
A. imprving test scres
B. expsure t many tests
C. memrizing infrmatin
D. children finding things ut themselves
14. Why des the authr mentin cmputer games?
A. T encurage the reader t d mre exercise instead f playing games.
B. T explain why mre and mre yung peple have pr vcabularies.
C. T give an example f technlgy imprving ur visual intelligence.
D. T shw the fact that yung peple are nt getting mre intelligent.
15. Which statement wuld Prfessr Flynn agree with?
A. Peple tday are taking easier tests.
B. Peple tday have mre visual intelligence.
