The mre we pulled tgether, the clser we gt, I felt feelings f admiratin fr my husband that I hadn't felt in years.
That's why it was s hard fr me t watch him blame himself fr ur present situatin. I cntinually asked him t stp, but he seemed t want t punish himself fr nt having a jb.
Finally, ne afternn I pulled him aside and said, “We have fur healthy children and each ther. That's what's imprtant. That makes yu a rich man. ”“But what if we lse the huse? They'll hate me—yu'll hate me, ”he replied.

New research suggests that dgs might be able t help save diseased citrus trees.
A grup f scientists trained dgs t use their sense f smell t detect a crp disease called citrus-greening. The disease has affected range, lemn and grapefruit trees in the American states f Flrida, Califrnia and Texas.
The dgs can detect the disease weeks t years befre it appears n tree l eaves and rts, the researchers reprt. A study n their findings was published recently in the Prceedings f the Natinal Academy f Sciences. The reprt says using dgs is als faster, less cstly and mre exact than having peple cllect hundreds f leaves fr lab analysis.
Gttwald is a researcher with the U.S. Department f Agriculture an d a cwriter f the study. He tld The Assciated Press, “This technlgy is thusands f years ld-the dg's nse. We've just trained dg s t hunt new prey.”
Citrus-greening is caused by a bacteria that is spread by a tiny insect that feeds n the leaves and stems f citrus trees. Once a tree is infected(感染), there is n cure. The disease has als hurt citrus crps in Central and Suth America and Asia. In ne experiment invlving grapefruit trees in Texas, trained dgs were crrect 95 percent f the time in telling the difference be tween newly infected trees and health y nes. “The earlier yu detect a disease, the better chance yu have at stppin g an epidemic(流行病)by remving infected trees,” Gttwald said.
Matte Garbeltt studies plants at th e University f Califrnia, Berkeley. He says the new research shws that dgs can detect an infectin well befre current methds. Garbeltt has been invlved in similar research but had n part in the new study.
Laura Sims is a plant scientist with Luisiana Tech University. She praised the steps taken t find ut if the dgs w ere detecting the bacteria itself r a plant's reactin t an infectin. T d that, the researchers infected different kinds f unrelated plants with the bacteria in a labratry. The dgs were still able t pick ut the infected plants.
Gttwald said, “Yu've seen dgs wrking in airprts, detecting drugs and explsives. Maybe sn yu will see
them wrking n mre farms. ”

It's nthing new that yu can find many files r services yu can dwnlad r use frm the Internet. The questin is: Is dwnlading legal r nt? In mst cases the answer is negative, because sharing and dwnlading are illegal. Of curse, yu can find files fr legal dwnlading, but yu have t pay fr them.
It seems inncent if yu click n the dwnlad mark, but it isn't. It shuld be cmpared with stealing in a stre.
Wuld yu steal a magazine, an MP3 player r a car? Dwnlading frm the Internet is a theft und sharing files, nce yu have stlen them, nly makes it wrse. Fr example, if everybdy nly dwnladed, mvies wuldn't make mney and the studis wuldn't invest millins f dllars t make new nes.
Many peple may think it better, easier and cheaper t d dwnlading. I think, that is the main reasn why Internet users prefer sharing smething t buying them. In the mdern wrld we lve cnvenience and what culd be mre cnvenient than getting music, films and games withut having t leave yur huse? Yu dn't need t pay fr what yu get, there is n registratin, and yu dn't have t wait until shps pen r the CD/DVD yu want is psted t yu. Hwever, yu culd be in big truble if yu are caught. Yu culd g t prisn as a result f acting unlawfully, but s far nly a tiny amunt f peple have been charged fr dwnlading illegally. The majrity f peple wh dwnlad illegally, and use the files fr their persnal use, will nt get int truble. And that's why it's imprtant fr peple t understand what the lng-term cnsequences are if they dn't want t pay fr their music, films and TV. Will film and music cmpanies still spend millins f punds every year if they have n chance f making a prfit? The answer is plainly “n”.
Finally I wuld like t say that the Internet ffers a lt f services fr mney, but peple will always try t get them fr free. T summarize my thughts I'd like t highlight that illegal dwnlading is bth unfair twards prducers and dangerus fr thse wh practise this kind f activity. Yu have t decide whether t buy r dwnlad.
32. Many peple dwnlad fr free frm the Internet because
A. they fllw thers'examples t d such things
B. they dn't think they may be charged by the prducer
C. they think everything n the Net can be shared by thers
D. they think it is legal, cnvenient and easy
33. What can be inferred frm Paragraph 2?
A. Dwnlading helps mvies becme mre ppular.
B. Dwnlading free files is as illegal as stealing.
C. Sharing files n the Internet is dangerus.
D. Sharing files n the Internet can make a prfit.
34. What des the underlined wrd “highlight” in Para 4 mean?
A. Stress B. Explain C. Admit D. Deny
35. What is the authr's purpse f writing this text?
A. He advises readers t dwnlad legal files.
B. He asks readers t limit the amunt f free dwnlading.
C. He wants t make it clear that dwnlading fr free is against the law.
D. He tells readers hw t avid being charged fr dwnlading.

W: ⑰Wh desn't lve sitting beside a csy(舒适的)fire n a cld winter's night? Wh desn't lve t watch flames curling up a chimney? Fire is ne f man's greatest friends, but als ne f his greatest enemies. Many big fires are caused by carelessness. A lighted cigarette thrwn ut f a car r train windw r a brken bttle lying n dry grass can start a fire. Smetimes, thugh, a fire can start n its wn. Wet hay can begin burning by itself. This is hw it happens: the hay starts t rt(腐烂)and begins t give ff heat which is trapped inside it Finally, it bursts int flames. That's why farmers cut and stre their hay when it's dry.
Fires have destryed whle cities. ⑲In the 17th century, a small fire which began in a baker's shp burnt dwn nearly every building in Lndn. Mscw was set n fire during the war against Naplen. This fire cntinued burning fr seven days. ! And, f curse, in 64 A. D. Rme burned! Even tday, in spite f mdern fire-fighting methds, fire causes millins f punds'wrth f damage each year, bth in ur cities and in the cuntryside. It has been wisely said that fire is a gd servant but a bad master. Which f the fllwing statement is nt true?
