    Students at Summit Elementary Schl in Butler,Pennsylvania are grwing mre than their minds.Under the guidance f their teacher Angela Eyth,they’ve created a prductive garden.“The kids are in charge f everything,” Eyth says.
    Eyth and her students launched the gardening prject in 2020 after the teacher attended a cnference n hw t include lessns abut farming in the classrm.Then came the garden.With 16 acres f schl district-wned land arund their building,there was plenty f rm.

    Accrding t the study cnducted by University Cllege Lndn’s researchers,children wh skip breakfast and sleep less are mre likely t have bigger appetites and tend t cnsume mre energy-rich fds thrughut the day,leading t excessive weight gain.The team als fund that smking habit f mthers during pregnancy(怀孕) is als ne f the cntributry factrs fr a child being verweight.
    Interestingly,these results challenge the cnventinal belief that ver-eating is the main cause f increasing besity rates amng children.In additin,factrs like watching t much televisin,cnsuming sugary drinks,eating fruits and intrducing slid fd sner dn’t certainly lead t childhd besity.
    The researchers used data frm a multi-disciplinary research prject that tracks the lives f children frm 19,244 families acrss the UK,brn frm September 2020 t January,2021.After analyzing the data,they fund that in the UK,83.3% f new babies had nn-verweight and stable BMI(身体质量指数).Only 1% had a mildly increasing BMI,while anther 2.5% tended t have a sharply increasing BMI.Hwever,due t pr lifestyle chices and envirnmental factrs,6% f the children were already verweight when they were three years ld.
    The study authrs cncluded that mdifying(更改) a child’s envirnment early in life can g a lng way in reducing their chances f gaining abnrmal weight,which can als affect their health in later years.
