The trail(路径) we fllwed grew narrwer and steeper.At arund 9 a.m.,we reached a patch f ice called an ice step.I vlunteered t g first.I placed my left ft n the ice step.Cnfident I was safe,I put my full weight n it.Suddenly,I heard a crack,and the whle ice brke ff the step,right under my ft.
In an instant,I fell backward,rlling dwn the muntain.I stuck ut my arms and legs,grabbing at anything.That stpped my smersaulting(翻滚) dwn the muntain,but I was still sliding.After a few secnds,I came t a stp.I’d fallen 600 feet.
