Nt sleeping enugh r getting a bad night’s sleep ver and ver makes it hard t cntrl yur appetite. And that sets yu up fr all srts f health prblems, including besity(肥胖) , heart disease and high bld pressure.
The link between pr sleep and a greater bdy mass index (BMI) has been shwn in study after study, but researchers typically relied n the memries f the participants t recrd hw well they slept.
Sleep apps n fitness trackers, smartphnes and watches have changed all that. In a new study researchers tracked sleep quality fr 120,000 peple fr up t tw years.
The results shwed sleep duratins(持续时间) and patterns are highly variable between peple. Despite that, the study fund peple with BMIs f 30 r abve-which is cnsidered bese by the US Centers fr Disease Cntrl and Preventin-had slightly shrter sleep duratins and mre variable sleep patterns.
It didn’t take much less sleep t see the effect. Peple with BMIs ver 30 nly slept abut 15 minutes less than thse less weighty peple.
There were sme limitatins t the study. Naps were nt included, ther health cnditins culd nt be factred in, and peple wh use wearable tracking devices are typically yunger, healthier and frm a higher ecnmic status than thse wh d nt wear trackers.
“These are quite pricey devices, and they are nt apprved by the US Fd and Drug Administratin. The results wuld need t be validated(确认) by the apprpriate FDA-apprved devices, and because the study is likely n yunger peple wh are mre ecnmically well ff, it needs further study whether that really applies t lder flks with pr sleep.” said Dasgupta, the assciate prgram directr.
Hwever, Dasgupta added, a majr plus fr the study is that it did mnitr peple fr ver tw years, and the results crrbrated previus research and were “nt surprising.”
While we cannt determine the directin f assciatin frm ur study result, these findings prvide further supprt t the idea that sleep patterns are assciated with weight management and verall health.
    38. Hw des the new study differ frm previus studies?
    A. It lasts the lngest time in histry.
    B. It uses apps t recrd participants’ sleep.
    C. It specially imprves participants’ sleep quality.
    D. It relied n participants’ memry t recrd data.
    39. What is Dasgupta’s attitude tward the new finding?
    A. DubtfulB. ShckedC. CautiusD. Dissatisfied
    40. What des the underlined wrd “crrbrated” prbably mean in Paragraph 8?
    A. limitB. crrectC. cnfirmD. cmbine
    41. What can be the best title fr the text?
    A. Sleep Quality Varies frm Persn t Persn

This mnth, Germany’s transprt minister, Alexander Dbrindt, prpsed the first set f rules fr autnmus vehicles. They wuld define the driver’s rle in such cars and gvern hw such cars perfrm in crashes where lives might be lst.
The prpsal attempts t deal with what sme call the “death valley” f autnmus vehicles: the grey area between semi-autnmus and fully driverless cars that culd delay the driverless future.
Dbrindt wants three things: that a car always chses prperty damage ver persnal injury; that it never distinguishes between humans based n age r race; and that if a human remves his r her hands frm the driving wheel — t check email, say — the car’s maker is respnsible if there is a crash.
“The change t the rad traffic law will permit fully autmatic driving,” says Dbrindt. It will put fully driverless cars n an equal legal fting t human drivers, he says.
Wh is respnsible fr the peratin f such vehicles is nt clear amng car makers, cnsumers and lawyers. “The liability (责任) issue is the biggest ne f them all,” says Natasha Merat at the University f Leeds, UK.
An assumptin behind UK insurance fr driverless cars, intrduced earlier this year, insists that a human “be watchful and mnitring the rad” at every mment.
But that is nt what many peple have in mind when thinking f driverless cars. “When yu say ‘driverless cars’, peple expect driverless cars,” Merat says. “Yu knw — n driver.”
Because f the cnfusin, Merat thinks sme car makers will wait until vehicles can be fully autmated withut human peratin.
Driverless cars may end up being a frm f public transprt rather than vehicles yu wn, says Ryan Cal at Stanfrd University, Califrnia. That is happening in the UK and Singapre, where gvernment-prvided driverless vehicles are being launched.
That wuld g dwn prly in the US, hwever. “The idea that the gvernment wuld take ver driverless cars and treat them as a public gd wuld get abslutely nwhere here,” says Cal.
    42. What des the phrase “death valley” in paragraph 2 refer t?
    A. A place where cars ften break dwn.B. A case where passing a law is impssible.
    C. An area where n driving is permitted.D. A situatin where drivers’ rle is nt clear.
    43. The prpsal put frward by Dbrindt aims t _______________. .
    A. stp peple frm breaking traffic rulesB. help prmte fully autmatic driving
    C. prtect drivers f all ages and racesD. prevent serius prperty damage
    44. Driverless vehicles in public transprt see n bright future in _______________. .
    A. Singapre B. the UK C. the USD. Germany
    45. What culd be the best title fr the passage?
    A. Autnmus Driving: Whse Liability? B. Fully Autmatic Cars: A New Breakthrugh
    C. Autnmus Vehicles: Driver Remved! D. Driverless Cars: Rt f Rad Accidents
