It was when I was attending high schl that I first read Asimv’s stries. At the time, a few science fictin magazines began t intrduce this authr, and t translate a few pieces frm his “Rbt Series”. Of Asimv’s wrks, the ne that left the deepest impressin n me was Pebble in the Sky. This nvel directly influenced my early science fictin writing. Asimv was ne f the leading writers f western science fictin’s Glden Age, s althugh his writing may nt have a direct influence n writers f tday, his underlying (潜在的) influence n many levels is undeniable — the famus Three Laws f Rbtics, and many classic writing techniques, fr example. Mre than 2 millin US teenagers have suffered a serius but(发作) f depressin in the past year, accrding t a federal gvernment survey released n Tuesday.
On average, 8.5 percent f adlescents aged 12 t 17 described having had a majr depressive episde in the previus year, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administratin reprted.
But there were "striking differences" by sex, with 12.7 percent f girls and 4.6 percent f bys affected.
Depressin is the leading cause f suicide, which in turn is the third-leading cause f death fr 15- t 24-year-lds in the United States.
"The data Cmbined 2004 t 2006 data shwed that rates f past year majr depressive experience amng yuths aged 12 t 17 generally increased with increasing age," the researchers wrte.
Researchers at SAMHSA and RTI Internatinal in Research Triangle Park, Nrth Carlina, prepared the reprt using data frm the Natinal Survey n Drug Use and Health.
Mre than 67,700 yuths aged 12 t 17 answered questins abut md and depressin. They were als asked t rate hw depressin affected them using the Sheehan Disability Scale(残疾量表), which measures impact n family, friends, chres at hme, wrk and schl.
Researchers defined a majr depressive episde as tw weeks r lnger f depressed md r lss f interest r pleasure, and at least fur ther symptms such as prblems with sleep, energy, cncentratin r self-image.
Nearly half f the teenagers wh had majr depressin said it severely damaged their ability t functin in at least ne f the areas n the disability scale.
