Scientists in Australia have discvered that they can use the wrld’s smelliest fruits t make devices that culd pwer electric cars. A durian is a fruit that lks like a pineapple. It is a delicacy in sme Asian cuntries, but its smell is s unpleasant that sme f thse cuntries have banned it frm public places. Its smell has been cmpared t rtting eggs and even smelly ld gym scks.
Vincent Gmes and his clleagues at the University f Sydney, in Australia, used a durian and a jackfruit — anther fruit knwn fr its terrible smell — t make energy string devices called supercapacitrs.
Supercapacitrs are an alternative t batteries. They can’t stre as much energy as a nrmal battery des, but they are much quicker t recharge. Durians and jackfruits cntain sme f the chemicals used in supercapacitrs, which gave Gmes the idea. T make the fruit-based devices, the team heated and then freeze-dried the uneatable cres f the durian and jackfruit t make a special kind f material called an aergel.
Aergels are ne f the wrld’s lightest slid materials. Often called “frzen smke”, they are made by remving the liquid frm a gel and replacing it with air. They have many scientific uses, but ne f their special prperties is the ability t cnduct electric currents, which makes them an imprtant part f supercapacitrs. The aergels made frm durian and jackfruit bth wrked well when placed inside a supereapacitr, althugh the durian aergel was fund t be the better f the tw.

After years f bserving human nature, I have decided that tw qualities make the difference between men f great achievement and men f average perfrmance curisity and discntent. I have never knwn an utstanding man wh lacked either. And I have never knwn an average man wh had bth. The tw belng tgether.
Tgether, these deep human urges(驱策力)cunt fr much mre than ambitin. Galile was nt merely ambitius when he drpped bjects f varying weights frm the Leaning Twer at Pisa and timed their fall t the grund. Like Galile, all the great names in histry were curius and asked in discntent, "Why? Why? Why?"
Frtunately, curisity and discntent dn't have t be learned. We are brn with them and need nly recapture them.
"The great man," said Mencius(孟子), "is he wh des nt lse his child's heart. " Yet mst f us d lse it. We stp asking questins. We stp challenging custm. We just fllw the crwd. And the crwd desires restful average. It encurages us t ccupy ur wn little crner, t avid flish leaps int the dark, t be satisfied.
Mst f us meet new peple, and new ideas, with hesitatin. But nce having met and liked them, we think hw terrible it wuld have been, had we missed the chance. We will prbably have t frce urselves t waken ur curisity and discntent and keep them awake.
Hw shuld yu start? Mdestly, s as nt t becme discuraged. I think f ne friend wh culdn't arrange flwers t satisfy herself. She was curius abut hw the experts did it. Hw she is ne f the experts, writing bks n flwer arrangement.
One way t begin is t answer yur wn excuses. Yu haven't any special ability? Mst peple dn't; there are nly a few geniuses. Yu haven't any time? That's gd, because it's always the peple with n time wh get things dne. Harriet Stwe, mther f six, wrte parts f Uncle Tm's Cabin while cking. Yu're t ld? Remember that Thmas Cstain was 57 when he published his first nvel, and that Grandma Mses shwed her first pictures when she was 78.
Hwever yu start, remember there is n better time t start than right nw, fr yu'll never be mre alive than yu are at this mment.
12.In writing Paragraph 1, the authr aims t ________.
A.prpse a definitinB.make a cmparisn
C.reach a cnclusinD.present an argument
13.What des the example f Galile tell us?
A.Trial and errr leads t the finding f truth.
B.Scientists tend t be curius and ambitius.
C.Creativity results frm challenging authrity.

14.What can yu d t recapture curisity and discntent?
A.Observe the unknwn arund yu.
B.Develp a questining mind.
C.Lead a life f adventure.
D.Fllw the fashin.
15.What culd be the best title f the passage?

A few years ag, I was giving a presentatin t the CEO f a cmpany. Thrugh the entire meeting time, the CEO sat at the cnference table with his arms tightly crssed withut a smile. I was sure that he was nt satisfied, but later his assistant tld me her bss was impressed with my presentatin. Suddenly, I realized that, it was his usual behavir. 16 Here are three mre: ignring the cntext, finding meaning in a single gesture, cmparing with a prper culture.
First, cntext is king. The same nnverbal gestures can take n ttally different meanings in different cntexts. Yu can’t really make sense f smene’s nnverbal message unless yu understand the circumstances behind it. Fr example, if yu yawn in a staff meeting because yu were up early fr an internatinal business call, let peple knw why yu’re tired. 17
Then, peple are cnstantly trying t evaluate yur state f mind by mnitring yur bdy language. But ften they will assign meaning t a single nnverbal gesture. Generally speaking, peple take mre ntice f any sign that indicates yu’re in a bad md and nt t be apprached. 18 S, yu may be mre cmfrtable standing with yur arms flded acrss yur chest, but thers judge that single gesture as resistant and unapprachable.
When I talk abut culture, I’m referring t a set f shared values that a grup f peple hld. 19 Mre imprtantly, they are the kind f criteria by which peple judge thers. We all have cultural biases that regard sme nnverbal behavirs as nrmal and right and thers as strange r wrng. What’s prper and crrect in ne culture may be ineffective r even rude in anther.
20 Understanding them, and trying nt t make the same nes, will help yu display yur nnverbal ability.
A.Such values affect hw members f the grup think and act.
B.Nnverbal signals are very cmmn in ur daily life.
C.These are peple’s mst cmmn mistakes when they read yur bdy language.
D.As with me, when peple dn’t knw yur usual behavir they can easily jump t the wrng cnclusin.
E.Withut this cntext, yu’ll lk like yu’re just bred.
F.If they dn’t knw the cntext, embarrassment will appear.
G.This is because the human brain pays mre attentin t negative messages than it des t psitive nes.

根据第三段关键句“Supercapacitrs are an alternative t batteries. They can’t stre as much energy as a nrmal battery des, but they are much quicker t recharge. Durians and jackfruits cntain sme f the chemicals used in supercapacitrs, which gave Gmes the idea.(超级电容器是电池的替代品。它们不能像普通电池那样储存能量,但充电速度要快得多。榴莲和菠萝蜜含有超级电容器中使用的一些化学物质,这让Gmes产生了这个想法)”可知,文章第三段中介绍了因为榴莲和菠萝蜜含有超级电容器中使用的一些化学物质,这让Gmes获得了创新的灵感,由此可知,文章第三段提到了Gmes创新的灵感。故选C项。
10.词句猜测题。根据画线单词上文“Aergels are ne f the wrld’s lightest slid materials, Often called “frzen smke”, they are made by remving the liquid frm a gel and replacing it with air. 11.细节理解题。根据最后一段内容“The discvery is imprtant because the materials currently used t make supercapacitrs are expensive. Using natural fds like durians and jackfruits, Gmes says, culd reduce envirnmental pllutin, as well as csts.(这一发现很重要,因为目前用于制造超级电容器的材料很昂贵。Gmes说,使用榴莲和菠萝蜜等天然食品可以减少环境污染和成本)”可知,使用榴莲和菠萝蜜等天然食品制造超级电容器可以减少环境污染和成本,由此可知,关于水果超级电容器,我们能知道它们既环保又经济。故选C项。

13.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Like Galile, all the great names in histry were curius and asked in discntent, ‘Why? Why? Why?’(像伽利略一样,历史上所有的伟人都感到好奇,并不满地问:“为什么?为什么?为什么?”) ”可推断,伽利略的例子告诉我们,伟大来自于持久的探索欲望。故选D。

Why?’(像伽利略一样,历史上所有的伟人都感到好奇,并不满地问:“为什么?为什么?为什么?”) ”;以及第四段中的“‘The great man,’ said Mencius (孟子), ‘is he wh des nt lse his child's heart.’ Yet mst f us d lse it. We stp asking questins. We stp challenging custm. We just fllw the crwd.(孟子认为“不失去孩子的心,就是伟大的人。”
根据第一段“After years f bserving human nature, I have decided that tw qualities make the difference between men f great achievement and men f average perfrmance curisity and discntent. I have never knwn an utstanding man wh lacked either. And I have never knwn an average man wh had bth. The tw belng tgether. 19.根据上文“When I talk abut culture, I’m referring t a set f shared values that a grup f peple hld.(当我谈论文化时,我指的是一群人持有的一套共同价值观)”可知,本句成绩上文说明拥有共同价值观的作用:影响团队成员的思维和行为方式。故A选项“这些价值观会影响团队成员的思维和行为方式”符合语境。故选A。
20.根据后文“Understanding them, and trying nt t make the same nes, will help yu display yur nnverbal ability.(理解它们,尽量避免重复,这将有助于你展示自己的非言语能力)”可知,本句是文章最后一段,对上文所叙述的内容进行概括总结,“These are peple’s mst cmmn mistakes”不仅起到承上的作用,又对后文起到了启下的作用。
