In 1893, she began wrking at Harvard Cllege Observatry under the directin f astrnmer E.C.Pickering. He directed a grup f wmen, wh were called “cmputers”. Therefre he was immediately interested in the prgram and gt a travelling pst as a teacher with Stardust Circus.
The lessn timetable was built arund the kids perfrmance schedules. “The eight-year-ld I tutred was an awesme gymnast wh was part f the teeterbard(跷跷板) act,” he explains. “A big guy wuld jump n the ther side, he wuld swing up in the air, d a cuple f twirls(旋转) and land n his uncle’s shulders, and his uncle was standing n the by’s father’s shulders!”

“Creativity is the key t a brighter future,” say educatin and business experts. Here is hw schls and parents can encurage this imprtant skill in children.
If Dick Drew had listened t his bss in 1925, we might nt have the prduct that we nw think greatly imprtant: a new type f tape. Drew wrked fr the Minnesta Mining and Manufacturing Cmpany. At wrk he develped a kind f material strng enugh t hld things tgether. But his bss tld him nt t think mre abut the idea. Finally, using his wn time, Drew imprved the tape, which nw is used everywhere by many peple. And his frmer cmpany learned frm its mistake. Nw it encurages peple t spend 15 percent f their wrking time just thinking abut and develping new ideas.
Creativity is nt smething ne is just brn with, nr is it necessarily a character f high intelligence. The fact that a persn is highly intelligent des nt mean that he uses it creatively. Creativity is the matter f using the resurces ne has t prduce new ideas that are gd fr smething.
Unfrtunately, schls have nt tried t encurage creativity. With strng attentin t test results and the develpment f reading, writing and mathematical skills, many educatrs give up creativity fr crrect answers. The result is that children can gain infrmatin but can’t recgnize ways t use it in new situatins. They may knw the rules crrectly but they are unable t use them t wrk ut practical prblems.
It is imprtant t give children chices. Frm the earliest age, children shuld be allwed t make decisins and understand their results. Even if it’s chsing between tw fd items fr lunch, decisin-making helps thinking skills. As children grw lder, parents shuld try t let them decide hw t use their time r spend their mney. This is because the mst imprtant character f creative peple is a very strng desire t find a way ut f truble.
32.What did the cmpany where Drew nce wrked learn frm its mistake?
It shuld encurage peple t wrk a lnger time.
Peple shuld be discuraged t think freely.
Peple will d better if they pay all attentin t their wrk.
It is necessary fr peple t spend sme f their wrking time develping new ideas.
33.What can we knw frm the passage abut creativity?
It is smething that mst peple are brn with.
It is smething that has nthing t d with intelligence at all.
It is smething that is nt imprtant t the life in the future at all.
It is a way f using what ne has learned t wrk ut new prblems.
34.Why dn’t schls try t encurage creativity?
They pay n attentin t examinatin marks.
They dn’t attach imprtance t creativity educatin.
They dn’t want their students t make mistakes.
They think it impssible t develp creativity in class.
35.What shuld the parents d when their children decide hw t spend their mney?
Allw them t have a try.
Try t help them as much as pssible.
Take n ntice f whatever they d.
Order them t spend the least mney.
