Passage 2
Paper r plastic? _________________.
Gvernments arund the wrld are pushing fr an end t plastic(塑料) straws(吸管) and bags. Mre and mre businesses are switching t paper prducts as an alternative(替代品). Paper is cnsidered by many t be better than plastic. Hwever, it, t, is harmful t the envirnment.
Firstly, paper bags and straws are made frm trees. Trees, as yu knw, can reduce carbn dixide (CO2) levels in the atmsphere. They can slw dwn climate change. An increase in the use f paper bags can cause mre defrestatin.
Secndly, the prductin f paper items needs mre energy and water. Abut 10% mre energy and fur times as much water is used t prduce a paperback than a plastic ne. Yu might say that we can use recycled(可循环使用的) paper t save the energy and water. This seems t be a gd idea. Hwever, it takes even mre energy and water t g thrugh the recycling prcess than t make a brand new paper bag. Prducts made frm recycled paper are als ften shrt-lived.
Furthermre, paper prducts are heavier than plastic nes. That means they require mre fuel t transprt. Seven trucks are needed t transprt 2 millin paper bags, while nly ne truck is needed t transprt the same number f plastic bags. The increased weight als leads t a large amunt f waste nce the bags are thrwn away.
Paper prducts are actually a lse-lse fr bth the envirnment and businesses. They are mre expensive than plastic prducts. A paper straw csts abut 5 t 12 cents, while a plastic ne usually csts nly abut 2 cents.
The mst envirnment-friendly slutin is t avid(避免) single-use items altgether. Prducts like glass water bttles and steel straws can be used ver and ver again. They are much better than either paper prducts r plastic prducts. Thrugh increasing the use f these items, yu can greatly reduce yur thrw away waste and truly make ur earth a greener place.

Here are a number f English learning tips t help yu imprve yur English. Chse a few f them t get started tday!
Ask yurself weekly: What d I want t learn this week?
Asking yurself this questin every week will help yu stp and think fr a mment abut what is mst imprtant t yu. It is easy t fcus nly n the current unit, grammar exercise, etc. If yu take a mment t stp t make a careful plan fr each week, yu will ntice the prgress(进步) yu are making and, in turn, becme mre inspired by hw quickly yu are learning English! Yu will be surprised at hw this feeling f success will mtivate yu t learn even mre English.
Quickly review imprtant new infrmatin shrtly befre ging t bed.
Research has shwn that ur brains prcess infrmatin that is fresh in ur brains while we sleep. By shrtly (this means very quickly—just a glance at what yu are wrking n at the mment) ging ver sme exercise, reading, etc. befre yu g t sleep, yur brain will wrk away n this infrmatin while yu sleep!
While ding exercises and alne at hme r in yur rm, speak English alud.
Cnnect the muscles(肌肉) f yur face t the infrmatin in yur head. Just as understanding the basics f tennis des nt make yu a great tennis player, understanding grammar rules des nt mean yu can autmatically speak English well. Yu need t practice the act f speaking ften. Speaking by yurself at hme and reading the exercises yu are ding will help cnnect yur brain t yur facial muscles and imprve prnunciatin and make yur knwledge active.
D five t ten minutes f listening at least fur times a week.
In the past, I decided I needed t get fit and went jgging—usually three r fur miles. Well, after nt having dne anything fr many mnths, thse three r fur miles really hurt! Needless t say, I did nt g jgging fr anther few mnths!
Learning t understand spken English well is very similar. If yu decide that yu are ging t wrk hard and listen fr tw hurs, chances are that yu will nt d extra listening exercises any time sn. If, n the ther hand, yu start ff slwly and listen n a regular basis (five t ten minutes at least fur times a week), it will be easier t develp the habit f listening t English.
Lk fr situatins in which yu must speak, read, and listen t English.
This is prbably the mst imprtant tip. Yu need t use English in a “real wrld” situatin. Learning English in a classrm is imprtant, but putting yur English knwledge int practice in real situatins will imprve yur fluency in speaking English. If yu d nt knw f any “real wrld” situatin, create new nes fr yurself by using the Internet t listen t news, write English respnses in frums, exchange emails in English with email pals, etc.
