An individual frm an unknwn hminid (人科) species walked acrss a field f wet, vlcanic ash in what is nw East Africa arund 3.66 millin years ag, leaving behind a handful f ftprints.
Thse five ancient ftprints, largely ignred since they were partly unearthed at Tanzania's Laetli site in 1976, shw features f upright walking by a hminid, a new study finds. Researchers had previusly cnsidered them hard t classify, because they pssibly were prduced by a yung bear that tk a few steps while standing. But the latest analysis refutes that suggestin.
McNutt, DeSilva, wh started the new investigatin as a Dartmuth Cllege graduate student, and their clleagues fully dug ut and cleaned the five Laetli ftprints in June 2019. Then they measured, phtgraphed and 3D scanned the ancient tracks. McNutt's grup fcused n tw ftprints that were particularly wellpreserved. Ft shapes, sizes, and walking characteristics f the Laetli individual differed in varius ways frm thse f ther hminid individuals at the same site. The prints als didn't match thse frm mdern black bears and mdern chimps (黑猩猩) walking upright.
The Laetli individual pssessed a wider, mre chimplike ft than humans, these researchers say. Its big te (脚趾) stuck ut slightly frm the secnd te, but nt t the degree bserved in chimps. On ne step, the Laetli individual's left leg crssed in frnt f the right leg, leaving a left ftprint directly in frnt f the previus track. Peple may crssstep in this way when trying t regain balance. And bears and chimps assume relatively wide standing due t knee and ther bne arrangements that prevent them frm walking like the Laetli individual and prbably frm crssstepping, the scientists say.
Given that nly tw f the ancient ftprints are cmplete enugh t analyze thrughly, the pssibility that a chimp ther than a hminid made the Laetli ftprints can't be ruled ut, says William HarcurtSmith, a scientist at Lehman Cllege. But evidence f crssstepping is enugh t prve that it was a hminid track maker, he says.

Tetraplegic patients (thse wh can't mve their upper r lwer bdy) are prisners f their wn bdies. Nw a rbt arm is t help them interact with their wrld. This research was cmpleted by researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute f Technlgy in Lausanne (EPFL). Prfessr Aude Billard and Jse del R. Millan wrked tgether t create a cmputer prgram that can cntrl a rbt using electrical signals frm a patient's brain.
First, the user wears an EEG cap t have their electrical signals inside their brain scanned (扫描) effectively, which are then interpreted by the machinelearning algrithm (算法). The cmputer then sends signals t the rbt arm t determine hw it mves. As the rbt arm perfrms a mtin, the algrithm is lking t get feedback frm the user when it makes a mistake: perhaps it mved t fast, r t vilently. The end gal is that the rbt can learn the right mvements fr a task in a given cntext. Fr example, yu might want the arm t use a bit f frce t thrw a paper ball, but yu might want it t be gentler when putting glass bttles.
In the team's research, they trained the rbt arm t pick up a glass. The arm wuld mve twards the glass and the users' brain wuld decide if they felt it was t clse r t far away. The prcess is repeated until the rbt understands the ptimal rute fr the individual's preference—nt t clse t be a risk but nt s far away t waste mvement.
“Training an algrithm t read brain waves in a cnsistent fashin was the mst challenging part, because the brain is nt nly fcused n the hand but als prcessing many ther things,” said Millan. “This means ur algrithm will never be 100% accurate.”
The researchers hpe t eventually use their algrithm t cntrl wheelchairs, which wuld allw peple in wheelchairs t have greater cntrl ver their mvements, speeds and general safety. Hwever, this des require cnsistency ver time frm the algrithm.
32.Which paragraph mentins the wrking prcess?

A.By cntrlling peple's brain. B.By ensuring general safety.
C.By prcessing ther infrmatin. D.By gaining data cntinuusly.
35.What culd be the best title f the text?
A.This Rbt Arm Can Read Yur Mind B.Rbt Arms Cntrl Yur Mvement
C.Algrithm Finds Cure fr The Disabled D.Machinelearning Algrithm Can Train Rbts

【文章大意】 美国达特茅斯学院的研究团队在坦桑尼亚发现了五个古代脚印,这些脚印显示出原始双足人类的小型跨步。
