One mrning when I was 15, I gt ut f bed, std up, and nticed smething wasn’t right. I had a sharp pain in my back and dwn my leg. Within a year, I had three nerve rt injectins (神经根注射) and an peratin n my back. But the pain remained.
After that, everything began t cllapse arund me. My grades fell quickly and schl became even harder than it had been befre. Hwever, like my ther classmates, I had tw arms, tw legs and I culd walk dwnstairs. Therefre t thers that didn’t seem t exist. But smetimes I just culdn’t stand it and I had t stay in bed rather than attend schl, missing a lt f my educatin.
What was difficult was that I fell int a rather unclear categry. I struggled t use the term “disability” and, quite hnestly, I still didn’t knw if I shuld. N ne had given me the green light. I never tk up the designated seats n the bus: the pain f standing was ften less than feeling judged fr sitting. There was nthing wrng with me. But I wrried abut peple taking a dim view. I knew this happened because n ccasin I’d even caught myself lking dwn n sme seemingly able-bdied shppers filling thse sacred seats and thinking, “What are they ding? They lk fine!”
It wasn’t until 2019 that my partner and I went t the cinema t see Pedr Almdóvar’s film Pain and Glry. There was an animated series inspired by Almdóvar’s persnal experiences with back cnditins. It was shcking. He captured them all — the nerve pain and the back pain and the visuals were unbelievably accurate. I whispered, “That’s what it’s like!” Then I culdn’t help bursting int tears.
Navigating a wrld where peple can’t see yur pain is upsetting and lnely. Of curse, peple can’t see the invisible, but try listening, being patient and giving peple the benefit f the dubt. They certainly dn’t make the pain g away. But they can make mving arund in this wrld a little easier t bear.

C. That he was ften laughed at by able-bdied peple.
D. That he wuld be measured by the standards f a healthy man.
6. Why was the authr in tears after seeing the film?
A. It helped him knw well abut his illness.
B. It reminded him f his similar feelings.
C. He realized his partner’s lve fr him.
D. He was amazed at the actr’s utstanding skill.
7. What cnclusin can be drawn frm the last paragraph?

Rbts are slwly entering the field f real-time multitasking, but befre they can make it, their cmputing systems must be updated.
“T truly crss that bridge, the rbt needs high cmputing pwer, high decisin-making speed, lw pwer cnsumptin, high flexibility f resurce scheduling, and easy-t-use cmputing parts, s as t run algrithms (算法) lcally in real time,” Shi Luping, a prfessr at Tsinghua University and Ma Sngchen, a Tsinghua Ph. D. candidate wrte in an email.
Right nw, prcessing units cannt efficiently meet AI’s needs fr ecnmical and adaptable prcessing. But neurmrphic (神经形态的) systems culd be a slutin. T invent a new neurmrphic cmputing system that can cmpletely supprt the netwrks, Ma and his clleagues first created a framewrk called Rivulet. “It’s challenging t design rbt-friendly equipment, and there are few multitasking prcessrs specifically designed fr intelligent rbts,” wrte Shi and Ma. “We think f hw we prcess infrmatin t make decisins reflexively — it’s the quality f brain regins. Then we cme up with a Rivulet mdel, which enables multiple netwrk tasks t schedule resurces n the chip (芯片) efficiently and flexibly.”
Using the Rivulet mdel, the scientists built an electrnic chip labeled TianjicX, as well as additinal sftware. They put bth int a mbile rbt named Tianjicat and ran it thrugh a cat-and-muse game. During the game, Tianjicat had t carry ut varius AI instructins t catch the rbt muse, which mved randmly within a space with barriers using visual recgnitin and sund detectin. Analysis shwed TianjicX reduced the amunt f energy Tianjicat used by half while prcessing infrmatin and significantly cut dwn n delays between making decisins and acting n them.
“We prvide an explratin platfrm fr AI researchers and prmte the study f brain-inspired intelligence,” wrte Shi. “Our platfrm als has great ptential t be applied in edge cmputing scenes due t its ability f multitask prcessing, such as autnmus driving and the Internet f Things.”
8. What is mainly talked abut in paragraph 2?
A. Basics f cmputing systems.B. The secret t rbts’ multitasking.
C. The necessity f upgrading rbts.D. Challenges in the develpment f AI.

A. Frm their life experiences.B. Frm the cat-and-muse game.
C. Frm the feature f human brains.D. Frm the inventin f neurmrphic systems.
10. Hw des the chip functin in the game?
A. By giving cmprehensive AI instructins.
B. By enabling Tianjicat t avid barriers accurately.
C. By cntrlling mvements f the rbt muse.
D. By reducing pwer and time Tianjicat cnsumes.
11. What d Shi’s wrds imply in the last paragraph?
A. The new system has wide applicatin.B. AI appears in many real-life situatins.
C. Multitasking is necessary in many areas.D. Schlars still need t explre AI further.

Frests absrb huge amunts f carbn dixide (CO2) frm Earth’s atmsphere, which makes them a key part f easing climate change. But humans may have already made the wrld’s largest rainfrest useless in—and perhaps even detrimental t—the battle against greenhuse gases, a new study finds.
Accrding t the study, the carbn balance f the Amazn rainfrest is damaged largely due t large-scale (大规模的) human disturbance t the Amazn ecsystem, with wildfires—many deliberately set t clear land fr agriculture and industry—respnsible fr mst f the CO2 emissins (排放量) frm the regin and the htter dry seasns.
“The first very bad news is that frest burning prduces arund three times mre CO2 than the frest absrbs,” lead authr f the study Luciana Gatti said. “The secnd bad news is that the places where defrestatin is 30 percent r mre shw carbn emissins 10 times higher than the places where less than 20 percent f frest is destryed.”
In the new study, the researchers analyzed nearly 600 measurements f CO2 and CO cncentratin at fur spts in the Brazilian Amazn cllected frm 2010 t 2018. The team fund that, n average, fires pured abut 1.6 billin tns f CO2 int the atmsphere each year, while healthy trees absrbed nly abut half a billin tns. The team als fund that, while the Eastern Amazn, which has seen histrically greater amunts f defrestatin ver the past 40 years, has becme a place where carbn emissins are frm, the Western Amazn, which has seen much less defrestatin, is neither a carbn “prducer” nr a carbn sink. There, CO2 absrptin by healthy frests balances the emissins frm fires.
The Amazn Basin cntains abut 2.8 millin square miles f jungle, representing mre than half f the trpical (热带的) rainfrest area remaining n Earth. “Limiting defrestatin, and especially wildfires, is key t changing this dangerus trend in the Amazn. Imagine if we culd keep the Amazn frm fires, the frest culd be a carbn sink,” Gatti said. “But we are ding the ppsite—we are accelerating climate change.”
12. What des the underlined wrd “detrimental” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Harmful.B. Sensitive.
C. Respnsible.D. Ineffective.
13. Which is the majr cause f the Amazn’s carbn imbalance?
A. Climate change.B. Industrial develpment.
C. Human activity.D. Natural wildfires.
14. What did the researchers discver in their study?
A. The Eastern Amazn is relatively better-preserved.
B. The Amazn witnessed mre fires frm 2010 t 2018.
C. The majrity f frest fires resulted frm defrestatin.
D. The Amazn rainfrest creates mre CO2 than it absrbs.
15. What des Gatti imply at the end f the text?
A. Mre frests shuld have been prtected.
B. The Amazn rainfrest is shrinking rapidly.
C. Peple shuld greatly reduce their carbn ftprint.
D. Preventing fires helps imprve the Amazn’s cnditin.
