Mst glitter(小发光物品), which is made up f tiny pieces f plastic, is a huge danger t the envirnment. “Everyne talks abut the muntain f plastic flating in the cean. Yu can grab empty bttles frm the water, but with tiny pieces, it's impssible,” says Victr Alvarez, a chemical engineer wh sells an ec-friendly alternative t glitter.
In the early 2,000s, Alvarez wrked fr Mercedes-Benz in Germany, where he became fnd f any technlgy that prtected the envirnment. A few years after leaving Mercedes-Benz, he funded Blue Sun Internatinal in Miami, which makes specialty ingredients fr the skin and hair care industries.
Glitter is a ppular ingredient in csmetics, such as eye shadws and lipsticks. S Alvarez began researching an alternative that didn't cntain plastic t make his prducts safer fr the envirnment. That's when he came acrss Rnald Brittn Ltd., a cmpany which had develped a plastic-free, bidegradable prduct called Biglitter. It is made frm regenerative cellulse(纤维素) surced frm hardwds, primarily eucalyptus(桉树). Alvarez wrked with the cmpany t becme the first retailer t sell Biglitter in America. In 2018, he frmed Tday Glitter in rder t sell the bidegradable glitter directly t cnsumers thrugh its website.
Tday Glitter sells tw kinds f bidegradable glitter — Biglitter Sparkle and Biglitter Pure. Bth are almst plastic-free and can bidegrade in a shrt time. Meanwhile, they are as shiny as regular glitter. All these prducts are third-party tested by TÜV, an internatinal rganizatin that prvides testing and certificatin fr cmpstable (可降解的) and bidegradable prducts.
Despite its benefits, the hardwds needed t make bidegradable glitter cause it t cst abut twice as much as cnventinal glitter. A small glass cntainer that cntains just 6 grams f Biglitter csts $10, while the same amunt f regular glitter culd cst at least half that amunt. Alvarez expects the price will cme dwn ver time. He als expects the cmpany's sales t crss $1 millin next year. But mre imprtantly, Alvarez says, his main gal is t effect a meaningful change.
    24. While at Mercedes Benz, Alvarez ________.

    A. The cmplex prcess f making glitter. B. Hw t expand its verseas market.
    C. Hw t attract ptential investrs. D. The high cst f raw materials.

Laughing tgether is an imprtant way fr peple t cnnect and bnd. Thugh the causes f laughter can vary widely acrss individuals and grups, the sund f a laugh is usually recgnizable between peple belnging t different cultures. In humans, laughter can express a range f emtins frm psitive feelings like enjyment t negative nes such as disgust. But what abut animals ther than humans?D they "laugh",and are the causes f their laughter similar t thse f human laughter?
Many animals prduce sunds during play that are unique t that pleasant scial interactin. Researchers cnsider such sunds t be an analgue f human laughter. Recently, scientists investigated play sund t see hw cmmn it was amng animals. The team identified 65 species that "laughed" while playing;mst were mammals(哺乳动物),but a few bird species demnstrated playful laughter t. This new analysis culd help scientists t trace the evlutinary rigins f human laughter, accrding t a new study.
When Sasha Winkler,a dctral candidate f bilgical anthrplgy at the University f Califrnia. Ls Angeles(UCLA),previusly wrked with rhesus macaques(恒河猴),she had nticed that the mnkeys panted(喘气)quietly while playing. Many ther primates(灵长类动物)are als knwn t sund during play. Hwever, reprts f playful laughter were ntably absent in studies describing fish, amphibians and reptiles, perhaps because there is sme questin as t whether r nt play exists at all in thse animal grups.
Laughter in humans is thught t have riginated during play,a hypthesis supprted by the play-related panting laughter f many primate species. "Human laughter may have evlved frm a similar panting sund that ver evlutinary time became the sunded 'ha ha ha' that we use tday. Peple still laugh during play, but we als invlve laughter in language and nn-play behavirs," Winkler said.
"It's really fascinating that s many animals have a similar functin f sund during play," Winkle tld the Live Science,a science news website. "But we d have these unique parts f human laughter that are als an imprtant area fr future study."
    28. What d we knw abut human laughter?
    A. It is nt shared amng strangers.
    B. It is created ut f the same reasn.
    C. It may appear when peple hate smething.

    29. What des the underlined wrd "analgue" in Paragraph 2 prbably mean?
    A. Smething cmmn. B. Smething similar
    C. Smething symblic. D. Smething attractive.
    30. Why is there a lack f reprts in laughter f sme animal grups?

    B. Because play is nt a definite behavir amng them.
    C. Because they are nt as interesting as ther animals.
    D. Because nly mammals and primates are able t laugh.
    31. What is prbably the fcus f future study n laughter?
    A. Distinctive features f human laughter.
    B. Different functins f animal laughter.
    C. The rigin and develpment f human laughter.
    D. The relatinship between animal laughter and intelligence.
    D
The wrd paradigm cmes frm the Greek. It was riginally a scientific term, and is mre cmmnly used tday t mean a mdel r thery. In the mre general sense, it’s the way we “see” the wrld — nt in terms f ur visual sense f sight, but in terms f perceiving, understanding, and interpreting.
A simple way t understand paradigms is t see them as maps. We all knw that “the map is nt the territry.” A map is simply an explanatin f certain aspects f the territry. That’s exactly what a paradigm is. It is a thery, an explanatin, r mdel f smething else. Yu can never arrive at a specific lcatin in a new city with a wrng map.
Each f us has many maps in ur head, which can be divided int tw main categries: maps f the way things are, r realities, and maps f the way things shuld be, r values. We interpret everything we experience thrugh these mental maps. We seldm questin their accuracy; we’re usually even unaware that we have them. We simply assume that the way we see things is the way they really are r the way they shuld be. And ur attitudes and behavirs grw ut f thse assumptins. The way we see things is the surce f the way we think and the way we act.
We see the wrld, nt as it is, but as we are r, as we are cnditined t see it. Clearheaded peple see things differently, each lking thrugh the unique lens f experience. But this des nt mean that there are n facts. Instead, each persn’s interpretatin f these facts represents prir experiences.
The mre aware we are f ur basic paradigms, maps, r assumptins, and the extent t which we have been influenced by ur experience, the mre we can take respnsibility fr thse paradigms, examine them, test them against reality, listen t thers and be pen t their perceptins, thereby getting a larger picture and a far mre bjective view.
32.Hw des the authr illustrate the cncept f “paradigm”?
A.By cmparing it t an everyday bject. B.By srting it int different categries.
C.By presenting persnal examples. D.By highlighting a sharp cntrast.
33.What can be cncluded abut the mental maps mentined in paragraph 3?
A.They fail t escape ur attentin. B.They may be lacking in accuracy.
C.They prve wrng and unreliable. D.They have little influence n behavir.
34.Which f the fllwing eches the main idea f paragraph 4?
    A.Great minds think alike.
B.All men have pinins, but few think.
C.Where we stand depends n where we sit.
D.The fewer the facts, the strnger the pinins.
35.What des the authr advcate in the last paragraph?
A.A better understanding f ur paradigms.
B.A strnger sense f respnsibility fr thers.
C.A mre bjective view f thers’ perceptins.
D.A mre psitive attitude tward life experience.

Freudenfreude clsely resembles psitive empathy(共情)—the ability t experience smene else’s psitive emtins. 36 It can als help peple c-perate during a cnflict and imprve life satisfactin. If yu’re interested in enjying mre freudenfreude, try the tips belw.

View individual success as a cmmunal effrt.
“N ne gets t the tp alne, and when we elevate thers, we’re ften earned up with them,” Anhalt says. Jean Grae, an artist and self-identified “multiptentialist” supprts friends and clleagues by adpting this mindset. When smene gets a new pprtunity r reaches a milestne, she makes sure t celebrate. 38 “It’s truly inspiratinal,” she says, “because it lifts us all up and makes us shine.”
    39
Because emtins are infectius, shwing appreciatin can increase freudenfreude fr the gratitude giver and the receiver. In this way, yu can think f freudenfreude as smething yu can spread when yu’re experiencing persnal jy.
    Turn int a jy spectatr.
“T ften, we think f jy passively,” Franc says. “We see it as smething that cmes t us, instead f smething we can generate.” But yu dn’t need t wait fr smene else’s gd news t exercise freudenfreude. 40 Yu might ask: “What was the bright spt f yur day?” r “what’s the best thing that happened t yu this week?”. Asking abut ther peple’s wins turns yu int a jy spectatr, giving yu a chance t witness them at their best.
    A.Becme a ppular rganizer.
B.Shw credit fr yur successes with thers.

F.Cultivate jy by inviting thers t share their victries.
G.She says she’s especially mved when anyne cnsidered “ther” succeeds.
