The University f Miami’s newest hspital has a six-bed emergency rm (急诊室), perating rm, a birthing rm and utpatient clinics.
The nly thing missing is patients. Instead, nursing students get a realistic clinical experience using cmputerized patients and staff actrs.
“Practicing n real peple can be a frightening envirnment, and as ur patients may be unwilling t accept treatment when a student walks in,” said Susana Barrs-Fernandez, wh versees UM’s simulatin (模拟) prgram. “We created this envirnment t allw students t practice and make mistakes and never put a patient r student at risk.”
UM’s Simulatin Hspital is part f a grwing trend f clleges building simulatin centers t prvide real-life experiences t students. Cmmunity clleges and schls als use simulatrs fr emergency medical technician (技师) and medical assistant prgrams.
A 2020 study by the Natinal Cuncil f State Bards f Nursing fund that clleges culd use simulatin t replace up t half f all clinical experience withut any bad results. The students scred as well n nursing license exams as thse getting mst f their experience in hspitals and health care centers. Officials say they think simulatin has helped their students achieve nearly perfect passing rates n the exams.

Thrughut histry scientists have risked their health and their lives in their search fr the truth.
Sir Isaac Newtn, the seventeenth century scientist, was very smart, but that didn't stp him frm ding sme pretty stupid things. In his labratry in Cambridge he ften did the strangest experiments. Once, while testing hw light passes thrugh lenses (晶状体), he put a lng needle int his eye, pushed it t the back, and then mved it arund just t see what wuld happen. Luckily, nthing lng-lasting did. Again he escaped suffering permanent damage, thugh he had t spend sme days in a darkened rm befre his eyes recvered.
In the 1750s the Swedish chemist Karl Scheele was the first persn t find a way t prduce phsphrus (磷). He in fact discvered eight mre chemical elements including chlrine (氯), thugh he didn't get any praise fr them. He was a very clever scientist, but his ne failing was a curius habit f tasting a little f every substance he wrked with. This risky practice finally caught up with him, and in 1786 he was fund dead in his labratry surrunded by a large number f dangerus chemicals, any f which might have been respnsible fr his death.
