Fr the past few years I’ve taken my vacatin in the spring. One April I planned t visit a friend in Nepal wh had lived in the cuntry fr ver 15 years.
I flew int Kathmandu and spent a week visiting sites, and n Friday, April24, 2015, we went t Lukla, a muntain twn t the nrtheast. My friend had wrked there befre. As we sat in the kitchen taking a rest, I wndered why it felt like an undergrund was running under the village. As the sund started t shake, I lked ut the windw at the passers-by and thught it felt like a truck was driving by-impssible in this village. I lked at my friend and he said ff-handedly: “It’s an earthquake.” Befre I culd ask questins, he began shuting t get ut f the huse.By the time I was running dwn the dirt path, I culdn’t run straight.
Away frm buildings, we lwered ur bdies near a lw wall, and unbelievably befre ur eyes, walls and buildings fell.
