When smene asks me what my gals are fr the cming year, I dn’t usually knw hw t reply. Of curse I, as mst peple d, want t see an imprvement in my grades. This year, hwever, I’m hping fr smething different.
Thrugh the curse f my schl life, I’ve gradually develped a new understanding f the wrd “priritizatin (优先次序)”. The first thing I wish t get in Senir 1 is the ability t manage my time better. I’ll surely becme busier with the cming semester (学期), and prper rganizatin is imprtant. Frm schl clubs t academic cmpetitins, everything shuld be set up in a way that desn’t influence my health, which leads me t my secnd gal.
My mther has always tld me put my health first, s in the future, I hpe t bth physically and mentally healthy. A persn can’t study withut having the energy t d s. In rder t stay energetic, they must put their health first, n matter hw busy they are, r hw much wrk they have t cmplete.
And finally, I hpe that I wn’t be discuraged (泄气的) by my failure and never give up n my dreams. I hpe that I’ll have the curage t try new activities and clubs. I believe my final gal can apply t every student arund the wrld. We shuld all respect ne anther’s likes and dislikes, and cncentrate n each ther’s advantages, nt ur disadvantages. Everyne shuld try t take part in all f life’s pprtunities(机会).
Albert Einstein nce said, “Life is like riding a bicycle. T keep yur balance (平衡), yu must keep mving.” In my case, it’s the ther way arund. In rder t keep mving, I must keep my balance—the balance between studies and activities, efficiency (效率) and prcrastinatin (拖延症), academics and health, passins and dislikes. The new jurney is ging t be a hard ne, but if I set these gals, I believe I will make it thrugh t the end.

When we’re in truble, we always turn t ur parents fr help. But wuld yu like them t hear the cnversatins yu have with yur friends n the schl playgrund r lunch queue? Scial netwrking sites have becme extensins (延伸) f the schl hallways, s wuld yu add yur parents as “friends” and allw them t view yur nline activities and cnversatins with friends?
In the past the generatin gap included a technlgy gap, where children were up t date with the latest technlgy and parents were left behind, cntent t cntinue their day-t-day lives as they always had because they had n need t knw mre abut technlgy. Hwever, mre and mre parents are beginning t realize just hw imprtant scial netwrks are in their lives. This realizatin has given many parents the mtivatin (动机) t educate themselves abut scial netwrking sites.
These days many peple are attracted t scial netwrking sites because they can chse wh they have arund them, there’s als a certain amunt f cntrl ver privacy (隐私) that we dn’t get in real life. Smetimes we feel that privacy is vilated (违背) when we must accept a “friend” request frm a parent r family member.
It’s a difficult chice whether r nt t allw a parent t becme a part f ur nline lives. On the ne hand we dn’t want t “refuse” their request because that might hurt their feelings r make them feel yu have smething t hide. On the ther hand if yu d accept, then yu culd have a sense f being watched and n lnger feel free t cmment r cmmunicate the way yu did befre.
A recent survey suggested that parents shuldn’t take it persnally if their children verlk (忽略) their requests. When a teenager verlks a parent’s friend request, it desn’t necessarily mean that he is hiding smething, but it culd mean that this is ne part f his life where he wants t be independent.
Perhaps talking with parents and explaining wuld help sften the blw if yu d chse nt t add them t yur friend list.

    D. Scial netwrks ffer a chance fr parents t cmmunicate.
    10. What maybe the reasn fr teenagers t refuse a parent’s friend request?
    A. Their parents make negative cmments n them.
    B. They hide smething frm their parents.
    C. They are unwilling t be watched by parents.
    D. Their parents tend t fall behind in technlgy.
    11. What des the underlined “that” in Paragraph 4 refer t?

    Finding the Real Yu
Psychmetric testing—persnality testing—has been very ppular nwadays as studies shw their results t be three times mre accurate in predicting yur jb perfrmance. These tests are nw included in almst all graduate recruitment (招聘) and are widely used in the selectin f managers.
The mst ppular f these persnality tests is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicatr (MBTI). It is based n the thery that we are brn with a tendency t ne persnality type which stays mre r less fixed thrughut life. Yu answer 88 questins and are then given yur “type”, such as Outging r Quiet, Feeling r Thinking.
Critics f persnality testing raise dubts abut “scial engineering”. Psychlgist Dr. Clin Gill warns that the “ppular” persnality traits (特性) have their disadvantages. “Peple wh are extremely pen t new experiences can be butterflies, ging frm ne idea t the next withut mastering any f them.” Hwever, the psychmetric test is here t stay, which may be why a whle sub-industry n cheating persnality tests has sprung up. “It’s pssible t cheat,” admits Gill, “but having t pretend t be the persn yu are at wrk will be tiring and unhappy and prbably shrt-lived.”
S can we change ur persnality? “Yur basic persnality is fixed by the time yu’re 21,”says Gill,“ but it can be affected by mtivatin and intelligence. If yu didn’t have the persnality type t be a dctr but desperately wanted t be ne and were intelligent enugh t master the skills, yu culd still g ahead. But trying t g t much against type fr t lng requires much energy and is actually t be suffered fr lng. I think it’s why we’re seeing this trend fr dwnshifting—t many peple trying t fit in t a type that they aren’t really suited fr.”
Our interest in persnality nw exists in every part f ur lives. If yu ask an expert fr advice n anything, yu’ll prbably be quizzed abut yur persnality. But if persnality tests have any value t us, perhaps it is t free us frm the idea that all f us are full f ptential, and remind us f what we are. As they say in ne test when they ask fr yur age: pick the ne yu are, nt the ne yu wish yu were.
    12. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicatr is based n the belief that ______.
    A. certain persnality traits are cmmn
    B. persnality is largely decided frm birth
    C. sme persnality types are better than thers
    D. persnality traits are varius frm time t time
    13. Accrding t Dr. Gill, what is the prblem with persnality tests?
    A. Emplyers ften find the results unclear.
    B. They may have a negative effect n takers.
    C. Peple can easily lie abut their true abilities.
    D. The results culd be ppsite t what emplyers want.
    14. In Dr. Gill’s view, hw easy is it t change yur persnality?
    A. It’s pssible in yur adult life.
    B. It’s easy if yu have great mtivatin.
    C. It’s difficult befre the age f 21.
    D. It’s unlikely because it requires much energy.
    15. What final cnclusin des the authr reach abut the value f persnality tests?
    A. They are nt really wrth ding.
    B. They may encurage greater realism.
    C. They are f dubtful value t emplyers.
    D. They can strengthen the idea we have f ur abilities.
