But it’s nt always clear that ffsetting truly lwers pllutin.
Glbal heating is a huge part f the climate emergency. The wrld is getting htter mainly because humans are burning “fssil (化石) fuels” like cal and il. These fuels give ff pllutants ften called greenhuse gases. T becme carbn neutral, it’s necessary t stp burning fssil fuels. Climate experts have said the best slutin is t leave il and cal in the grund, althugh it’s still hard t reach fr the mment. Man-made technlgy t remve large quantities f greenhuse gases frm the atmsphere desn’t exist yet. Thugh many questins remain abut hw the cmpanies hpe t meet their gals, since the main technlgy they expect and need is inaccessible, their planned changes are actually keeping up with the develpment f mdern sciety. What’s mre, they are putting billins f dllars int the effrt t make carbn catch technlgy happen.

A. Expanding frest cverage.B. Stpping burning fssil fuels.
C. Catching and string the gases.D. Clsing dwn plluting factries.

A. Ambiguus.B. Skeptical.C. Psitive.D. Critical.
11. What’s the best title f the text?

B. Cmpanies Take n Climate Emergency

Scientists have shwn that bees have sme surprising math skills. Nw, new study shws that bees can even be trained t tell the difference between dd and even numbers. Befre this, humans were the nly animals knwn t have this ability.
In 2018, researchers in Australia discvered that bees culd understand the idea f “zer”. The researchers were perplexed, since nly a few animals, like dlphins, mnkeys, and sme birds, had shwn that they understd zer. Later, the same scientists shwed that bees culd be trained t add and subtract (减).
In the study, researchers divided hneybees int tw cntrl grups. They shwed bees cards cntaining printed shapes that numbered frm ne t ten. One grup was trained t fly t even-numbered cards, which earned them a sugar water treat if they successfully cmpleted the task. If they flew t an dd-numbered card, they received a sur liquid. The secnd grup had a similar apprach, but the numbers were reversed(相反的). An dd card wuld earn them a sweet treat and an even card wuld give them a sur liquid. Researchers cntinued this lessn until the bees succeeded at least 80% f the time.
Then, they added a new challenge. They had the bees chse between cards with 11 and 12 shapes n them. The bees had never seen these numbers in their training. Even s, they succeeded 70% f the time.
The reasn fr this study is that the scientists believe that studying bee brains might help us learn hw t build better and faster cmputers. After all, a bee’s brain is abut 86,000 times smaller than a human brain. Hw des it handle such cmplicated ideas? Unless the brain structures fr prcessing numbers aren’t s cmplicated. Then, the scientists built an extremely simple cmputer system with just five cnnectins called neurns(神经元) , and they were able t train it t tell the difference between even and dd numbers up t 40.
12. What des the underlined wrd ‘‘perplexed’’ in Paragraph 2 mean?
A TlerantB. CreativeC. PuzzledD. Discuraged
13. Hw did the bees get their reward in the study?
A. By mixing the tw drinks.B. By drawing the right shapes.
C. By remving crrect numbers.D. By landing n specified cards.
14. What is the final gal f this study?
A. Finding ptential technlgy innvatins.
B Teaching bees different means f learning.
C. Speeding the learning behavir f humans.
D. Training bees t serve mankind mre easily.
15. What is the best title fr the text?
A. Bees Calculate Numbers like HumansB. Scientists Train Bees t Cunt Numbers
C. Odds and Evens Are Significant t BeesD. Bees Can Learn Odd and Even Numbers
