Examining drps f black bld frm dead cws under his micrscpe, Kch sptted structures shaped like thin grains f rice, which bld frm healthy animals did nt have. These germs were Bacillus anthracis.
T see if the bacteria were the cause f the illness, Kch designed his wn testing methds. First, he saked (浸泡) a wd splinter (碎片) with a sick animal’s bld; then he made a small cut at the base f each muse’s tail and inserted (插入) the splinter int their bdies. The next mrning, the mice were dead. When Kch checked their bdies, he fund the same micrscpic structures in their bld.
In 1880, Kch’s team perfected his plate technique (技术) fr generating pure cultures f bacteria, which was crucial in identifying the cause f tuberculsis. In 1890, he annunced he had fund the cure fr tuberculsis. He called the medicine tuberculin, a substance taken frm tubercle bacilli.
