As a result, the US culd be “ne f the tp mst affected wheat prducers” in terms f the increase in areas affected by severe drughts, they said in a jint statement.
Wrryingly, existing research has predicted a 4.0 t 6.5 percent drp in glbal wheat prductin per 1 degree Celsius f warming if climate change isn't eased. And it's unlikely that wheat can be replaced if water becmes scarce, as it's nt as thirsty as ther crps and can d withut water fr a relatively lng perid f time.
“If multiple regins are affected by drught at the same time, it might be difficult t meet the demand even if the trade rutes stay pen and are nt restricted by gvernmental measures,” warned Feng. Hwever, he said, “Studies shw that if we cntinuusly imprve the sustainability and technlgies in the cming decades and allw fr internatinal trade, we may vercme the negative impacts f climate change.”

In a digital age, we almst never write things by hand. Hwever, multiple studies have shwn that this act has many benefits.
New brain research, led by researchers at the Nrwegian University f Science and Technlgy, cnfirms the same chsing handwriting ver using a keybard results in better learning and memry.
“When yu write yur shpping list r lecture ntes by hand, yu simply remember the cntent better afterwards,” said Audrey Van der Meer, authr f the study.
The study was cnducted using equipment t track and recrd brain wave activity. The participants included 12 yung adults and 12 children. This is the first time that children have participated in such a study. Each subject was asked t write by hand and type n a keybard while wearing a hd (风帽) with ver 250 electrdes (电极). The sensrs (传感器) in the electrdes are very sensitive and pick up the electrical activity that takes place in the brain. Each examinatin tk 45 minutes per persn.
The results shwed that the brain in bth yung adults and children is much mre active when writing by hand than when typing n a keybard. Accrding t Van der Meer, plenty f senses are activated (激活) by pressing a pen n paper, seeing the letters written and hearing the sund made while writing. These sense experiences build cntact between different parts f the brain, pening the brain up fr learning.
Van der Meer believes that the utcmes stress the imprtance f children being challenged t draw and write at an early age, especially at schl. “Learning t write by hand is a bit slwer prcess, but it’s imprtant fr children t g thrugh the tiring phase f learning t write by hand”, she said.
The hand mvements used t frm the shapes f letters are beneficial in several ways. “If yu use a keybard, yu use the same mvement fr each letter. Writing by hand requires cntrl f yur fine mtr (精细动作) skills and senses. It’s imprtant t put the brain in a learning state as ften as pssible,” Van der Meer added. Fr example, yu might use a keybard t write an essay, but yu shuld take ntes by hand during a lecture.
    12. What d we knw abut the study?
    A. The study invlved 45 participants altgether.
    B. The participants were divided int tw grups t cnduct.
C All the participants were gathered tgether fr examinatins.
    D. The sensrs in the electrdes were used t track brain wave activity.
    13. Why des the brain becme mre active when writing by hand than when typing n a keybard accrding t Van der Meer?
    A. Mre senses are made active when writing by hand.
    B. Writing by hand is easier n the brain.
    C. Nise made by typing desn’t distract the brain when writing by hand.
    D. The brain is mre used t the skills required t write by hand.
    14. Hw des Van der Meer think handwriting benefits peple?
    A. It increases peple’s interest in learning.B. It helps peple develp fine mtr skills.
    C. It allws children t becme mre patient.D. It allws peple t write better essays.
    15. What’s the main purpse f the text?
    A. T reprt n new research n handwriting
    B. T encurage the use f handwriting
