Amng my friends, ne tpic seems t dminate ur cnversatins: bnes. It makes sense, given that 20 percent f American wmen ver 50 have steprsis (骨质疏松) and that mre than half have bne lss. Fr men, the figures are lwer: 4 percent and a third. Wrldwide, ne ut f three wmen ver 50 and ne ut f five lder men will develp a fracture (骨折). Anther reasn fr the endless argument abut bne prblems is mass cnfusin ver hw best t strengthen yur bnes and whether diet really makes a difference.
Diet research is always messy, and study results n nutritin and bne health haven’t been cnsistent. But gradually sme clarity is emerging. As we draw up reslutins fr what t eat, it’s useful t lk at new data n vitamin D. Calcium is the key element fr building bnes, and vitamin D helps t absrb calcium frm the fd we cat, s dctrs ften recmmend D supplements (补充剂) t make up fr age-related bne lss.
But a recent study fund that taking D supplements fr five years did nt reduce the rate f fractures in senirs. That result built n earlier findings, led by the same team, that these supplements d nt imprve bne density (密度). “Fd and sun expsure likely prvide enugh vitamin D fr healthy adults,” says Meryl LeBff, wh led the study.

The ther key element f bne health invlves calries ut rather than calries in. Weight-bearing exercise stimulates bne frmatin thrughut life. S while fcusing n better nutritinal chices, add mre exercise t yur daily menu.

    B. The findings g against LeBffs earlier nes.
    C. D supplements play a minr rle than expected.
    D. Fractures are linked with weight-bearing exercise.
    11. What is a suitable title fr the text?
    A. A recipe fr better bnesB. Yur bnes cry!
    C. The magic f D supplementsD. Vitamin D wins!
A 9. D 10. C 11. A

由第一段中的“It makes sense, given that 20 percent f American wmen ver 50 have steprsis (骨质疏松) and that mre than half have bne lss. Fr men, the figures are lwer: 4 percent and a third. Wrldwide, ne ut f three wmen ver 50 and ne ut f five lder men will develp a fracture (骨折). (考虑到20%的50岁以上的美国女性患有骨质疏松症,超过一半的女性患有骨质疏松,这是有道理的。对于男性来说,这一数字更低:4%和三分之一。在全球范围内,三分之一的50岁以上女性和五分之一的老年男性会发生骨折)”可知,骨骼问题很普遍,第一段中的统计数据强调了骨骼问题的严重性。故选A项。
由第二段中的“Diet research is always messy, and study results n nutritin and bne health haven’t been cnsistent. (饮食研究总是一团糟,关于营养和骨骼健康的研究结果也不一致)”可知,but表转折,前文讲关于营养和骨骼健康的研究结果也不一致,后文应该讲就保持骨骼健康上大家达成了共识,再结合本段中的“s dctrs ften recmmend D supplements (补充剂) t make up fr age-related bne lss (所以医生经常建议补充D来弥补与年龄相关的骨质流失)”可知,划线句表明“我们开始就保持骨骼健康的方法达成一致”。故选D项。

That result built n earlier findings, led by the same team, that these supplements d nt imprve bne density (密度). 这一结果建立在由同一团队领导的早期发现的基础上,即这些补充剂不能提高骨密度)”和第四段中的“because there are s many ther nutrients (营养物质), and yu have a mre cntinuus absrptin than with D supplements (因为还有很多其他营养素,而且比起D补充剂你更能持续吸收它们)”可推知,D补充剂的作用比预期的要小。
由第三段中的“But a recent study fund that taking D supplements fr five years did nt reduce the rate f fractures in senirs. (但最近的一项研究发现,服用D补充剂五年并不能降低老年人的骨折率)”,第三段中的“Fd and sun expsure likely prvide enugh vitamin D fr healthy adults (食物和阳光照射可能为健康成年人提供足够的维生素D)”,第四段中的“What des help maintain strng bnes fr all f us? The easy answer is fd high in calcium, such as milk and tfu. (什么有助于我们所有人保持强壮的骨骼?简单的答案是高钙食物,比如牛奶和豆腐)”和最后一段中的“S while fcusing n better nutritinal chices, add mre exercise t yur daily menu. (因此,在关注更好的营养选择的同时,在你的日常菜单中增加更多的运动)”可知,文章一项研究表明服用D补充剂五年并不能降低老年人的骨折率,但高钙食物和运动有助于增强骨骼健康,A项“更好骨骼的秘诀”符合文意。故选A项。

In cnversatins with strangers, peple cmmnly tend t think they shuld speak less than half the cnversatin time t be likable. But we’ve discvered this idea is wrng. This utcme suggests the reasn peple prefer thse wh speak up: Learning mre abut a new partner can make yu feel like yu have mre in cmmn with him r her.
Further, we assigned peple t speak fr up t 70% and even 90% f the time. The result shws it is nt an ideal strategy. Our research des nt suggest peple hld dwn a cnversatinal partner but rather that they feel cmfrtable speaking up mre than they usually might.
Research like urs can help peple gain a ‘mre reasnable understanding f scial interactins with new peple and becme mre cnfident abut hw t make a gd first impressin. It has the bvius benefit f allwing us t carefully cntrl speaking time. Hwever, it des nt reflect mre natural cnversatins. Future research shuld figure ut whether ur findings generalize t mre natural interactins.
    12. What is the cmmn belief cncerning cnversatins with strangers?
    A. Speaking a little less is preferred.
    B. Speaking half the time is the best.
    C. Listeners are mre likable than speakers.

    13. Hw was the research carried ut?
    A. By analyzing speaking habits.
    B. By making cmparisns.
    C. By listing examples.
    D. By cllecting data.
    14. What is the disadvantage f the research?
    A. The cnversatin time is limited.
    B. Further study is hard t cntinue.
    C. The findings are less widely appliable.
    D. Interactins with strangers are missing.
15 In which situatin can the research finding be applied?
    A. Attending a family gathering.
    B. Partying with yur friends.
    C. Meeting a new teacher.
    D. Making a public speech.
A 13. B 14. C 15. C

根据第二段中“In ur research, we randmly assigned peple t speak fr 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% f the time in a cnversatin with smene new. We fund that the mre they spke, the mre they were liked by their new partners.(在我们的研究中,我们随机分配了一些人,让他们在与陌生人对话时,用30%、40%、50%、60%的时间说话。我们发现,他们说得越多,他们的新合作伙伴就越喜欢他们。)”,可知,研究是“通过“比较说话时间”来实施的。故选B。

    【42题详解】
    考查定冠词。句意:警方增加了巡逻人员以确保游客的安全。根据语境可知,句子表示“警方增加了巡逻人员以确保游客的安全”,“……的数量”是the number f,因此空格处是the,故填the。
