Abut five feet frm the edge, her frnt ft sank int the sandy bttm. Then she fell frward and bth legs started t sink. I dashed t her, grabbed her under the shulders, and pulled her ut. She climbed back t shre. But nw I was sinking. The mud came all the way up t my right thigh and my left calf (小腿肚). I freed my left leg but culdn’t mve my right.
Jess handed me a lng stick we’d picked up earlier in the hike I put it dwn the side f my leg and tried t mve and pull it ut. Nthing. I was trapped in quicksand (流沙) .
Jessika started scping (舀) sand with bth hands, but it was refilling faster than she culd pull it ut. “Dn’t bther,” I tld her. “Yu’re just wasting yur energy.” While I was n lnger sinking, I wasn’t getting ut, either.
