6.American researchers fund females are the mre talkative sex because f a special “language prtein(蛋白质)” in the brain.
The study, cnducted by neurscientists (神经学家)and psychlgist frm the University f Maryland, cncluded that wmen talked mre because they had mre f the Fxp2 prtein. The research, published in the Jurnal f Neurscience, fund that higher levels were fund amng humans that were wmen but in rats that were males. Their findings came after it was previusly claimed that ladies speak abut 20,000 wrds a day – ver 13,000 mre than men. “This study is ne f the first t reprt a sex difference in the expressin f a language-assciated prtein in humans r animals,” said Prf Margaret McCarthy, wh led the study. In their study, the researchers attempted t determine what might make male rats mre vcal than their female friends.
They separated fur-day-ld rats frm their mthers and then cunted the number f times they cried ut in the “ultrasnic range”, the frequencies higher than humans can hear, ver five minutes. While bth sexes called ut hundreds f cries, the males called ut twice as ften, they fund. But when the pups were returned t their mther’s cage, she fussed ver her sns first. Tests cnducted n the parts f the brain knwn t be assciated with vcalcalls shwed the male pups have up t twice as much Fxp2 prtein as the females. The researchers then increased the prductin in the brains f female pups and reduced it in males. This led t the female rats crying ut mre ften and their mthers shwing mre interest t them. In cntrast, males became less “talkative”.
The researchers then tested samples frm ten children, aged between three and five, which shwed that females had up t 30 per cent mre f the Fxp2 prtein than males, in a brain area key t language in humans.
“Based n ur bservatins, we assume higher levels f Fxp2 in girls and higher levels f Fxp2 in male rats is an indicatin that Fxp2 prtein levels are assciated with the mre cmmunicative sex,” said Prf McCarthy. “Our results imply Fxp2 as a cmpnent f the neurbilgical basis f sex differences in vcal cmmunicatin in mammals. “
