“The NHFPC’s attitude twards citizens’ birth vilatins(违法)is cnsistent and clear…Every Chinese citizen shuld bey and safeguard the seriusness f laws and regulatins.” NHFPC spkesman Ya Hngwen said.
China’s family planning plicy, intrduced in the late 1970s t slw dwn the cuntry’s grwing ppulatin, limits mst urban cuples t ne child and mst rural cuples t tw. The plicy was recently relaxed, allwing cuples t have tw children if ne f them is an nly child.
Thse wh break the plicy face severe fines. The amunt f the fine is generally several times the yearly annual incme f the tw spuses(配偶). Sme media calculatins put the fine that Zhang may face at as much as 160 millin yuan(ver $26 millin).
Zhang’s birth case has caused criticism nline abut famus peple wh have mre children than the plicy allws.
In an pen letter n December 1, Zhang admitted that the cuple has tw sns and daughter and they are willing t accept investigatin and punishment accrding t China’s laws and regulatins. He aplgized t the public.
Hwever, the letter denied that Zhang had lvers and was father t as many as seven children frm varius mthers.

Sme peple blame the fact that we are surrunded by shps selling unhealthy, fatty fds, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at lw prices. This has turned ut a whle generatin f grwn-ups wh seldm ck a meal fr themselves. If there were fewer f these restaurants then prbably children wuld buy less take-away fd.
There is anther argument that blames parents fr allwing their children t becme verweight. I agree t this, because gd eating habits begin early in life, lng befre children start t visit fast fd shps. If children are given fried chicken and chclate rather than healthy fd, r are always allwed t chse what they eat, they will g fr sweet and salty fds every time, and this will carry n thrughut their lives.
There is a third reasn fr this situatin. Children these days take very little exercise. They d nt walk t schl. When they get hme, they sit in frnt f the televisin r their cmputers. Nt nly is this an unhealthy pastime(消遣), it als gives them time t eat mre unhealthy fd. What they need is t g utside and play active games r sprts.

    53. The underlined wrd “diversified” in the first paragraph mst prbably means ________.

“That desn’t have anything t d with it,” he replied. “Happiness is smething yu decide n ahead f time. Whether I like my rm r nt desn’t depend n hw the furniture is arranged…it’s hw I arrange my mind. I have already decided t lve it. It’s a decisin I make every mrning when I wake up. In additin t just visiting these cuntries, travelers shuld aim t spend their mney in lcally-wned business, Greenwald said, t ensure their financial supprt stays in the cuntry they’re visiting. Hwever, that requires a well-maneged turism infrastructure. While ne culd argue thse pr places need the mney even mre, turism can put pressure n cuntries that face such challenges.
Erica Avrami, research and educatin directr at the Wrld Mnuments Fund(WMF) said that a list f ethical destinatins is “a wnderful idea”, the idea f being ethical ges bth ways. “There’s als a certain respnsibility n the part f the traveler t make sure their wn ftprint is as minimal as pssible,” she said.
