“In the future, everybdy will be famus fr 15 minutes,” said US artist Andy Warhl(1928 —1987). And he is quite right. Nw it seems that anybdy can becme an instant nline celebrity.
Warhl is best nted fr his paintings that represent celebrity faces and US cnsumer gds, like Cca-Cla bttles r Campbel’s sup cans. As a great influence n the twentieth century pp art mvement, Andy Warhl rse t becme a crnerstne in the cntemprary art wrld, devted t bringing his views n materialism, plities and ecnmics t the art. Actually, the visual wrld Warhl created is directly cnnected t his backgrund.
In the mid-1950s, the wrking class gathered a great deal f frtune. They wanted t achieve a higher status in sciety. “The cnsumer gds and Hllywd faces are a wrking-class-cded icngraphy(肖像)that is ften misinterpreted as generally ‘American’.” Anthny E. Grudin, authr f Warhl’s Wrking Class cmmented. Reprducing these themes in his wrk meant that peple utside f the art wrld culd immediately cnnect with Warhl’s pictures. Cnsidered “a creature f transfrmatin”, Warhl cnstantly explred with different frms f media t evke resnance amng peple.
Fr example, in additin t being a painter, Warhl was, in the wrds f UK writer Peter Wllen: “A filmmaker, a writer, a phtgrapher, a TV sap pera prducer.” Warhl, in shrt, was what we might call a ‘Renaissance(文艺复兴) man’, even thugh he was a leader in pp r perhaps pst-mdern art.”
In his later years, he funded Interview Magazine and wrte several bks, including The Philsphy f Andy Warhl. But UK artist Gillian Wearing said, “Warhl left his mark in many mre ways than his actual wrk.” Warhl’s wrks are all abut “America, mney, fame and death”, UK writer Jn Savage remarked. “He summer up , defined and in many ways symblized the wrld in which we nw live.”

Peple, especially adults, have every reasn t be cncerned abut the impact addictive screens make n scial skills amng yungsters. Recently, researchers cmpared teachers’ and parents’ evaluatin f children wh started kindergarten in 1998—six years befre Facebk was launched —with that f thse wh began schl in 2010, when the first iPad was released.
The idea fr the study was inspired several years ag when Dwney, lead authr f the study, had an argument at a pizza restaurant with his sn, Nick, abut whether scial skills had been suffering amng the new generatin f yungsters. “Nick asked me hw I knew that. And that was when I realized there really wasn’t any slid evidence,” Dwney said. S Dwney, with his clleagues, decided t investigate.
Fr their study, they used data frm the Barly Childhd Lngitudinal Study(ECLS), which is run by the Natinal Center fr Educatinal Statistics. The ECLS fllwed children frm kindergarten t fifth grade. The researchers cmpared data n the children wh began kindergarten in 1998(19,150 students) with that n thse beginning kindergarten in 2010(13,400 students). Results shwed that children’s scial skills did nt decline between the 1998 and 2010 grups. And similar patterns remained as the children prgressed t fifth grade. Even children within the tw grups wh had the heaviest expsure t screens shwed similar develpment in scial skills cmpared t thse little screen expsure.
While Dwney was initially surprised t see that time spent n screens didn’t affect scial skills, he really shuldn’t have been. “There is a tendency fr every generatin at my age t start t have cncerns abut the yunger generatin. It is an ld stry,” he said. These wrries ften invlve “mral panic” ver new technlgy. Adults are cncerned when technlgical change starts t erde traditinal relatinships, particularly the parent-child relatinship.
New generatins are learning that having gd scial relatinships means being able t cmmunicate successfully bth face t face and nline. “Yu have t knw hw t cmmunicate by email, n Facebk and Twitter, as well as face t face. We just lked at face-t-face scial skills in this study, but future studies shuld lk at digital scial skills as well.” Dwney said.
28.What drve Dwney t cnduct the study?
A.T argue his friend dwn.B.T build kids’ scial skills.
C.T liberate kids frm addictive devices.D.T seek definite prf fr his viewpint.
29.Hw much d we knw abut Dwney’s findings?
A.They cnfirmed his previus belief.
B.They shwed the impact f scial media.
C.They ttally disagreed with his assumptin.
D.They gt him mre wrried abut yunger generatins’ scial skills.
30.What des the underlined wrd “erde” in Paragraph 4 prbably mean?
A.Enhance.B.Damage.C.Bst.D.Prhibit.
31.Which f the fllwing may Dwney agree with?
A.As fr new generatins’ scial skills, it’s necessary t readjust assessments.
B.It’s urgent t minimize the use f digital devices amng yung peple.
C.Face-t-face exchanges may give way t nline cmmunicatin smeday.
D.Unlike the ld, yungsters are better at cmmunicating in the Digital Age.

Many f us are disgusted by spiders’ furry legs, r even afraid f them. We dn’t like t tuch them r g near them. But they are mre cmplicated than we can even imagine. Spiders’ legs seem t have minds f their wn. Accrding t a new study, each le g f a spider functins as a semi-independent “cmputer”, with sensrs reading the immediate envirnment and causing mvements accrdingly. This helps spiders quickly build perfect webs. The researchers imitated surprisingly simple rules t gvern this cmplex behavir, which culd eventually be applied t rbtics.
The study invlves “mrphlgical cmputatin (形态计算)”, the idea f a functin cntrlled by a bdy part instead f relying n the brain fr instructins. Examples include the human knee jerk reflex (膝跳反射) and the act f walking. “Basically there’s a shrtcut, and the brain desn’t even knw what’s happening dwn there,” says Oxfrd bilgist Fritz Vllrath, the lead authr f the paper.
Rbticists als shw interest in mrphlgical cmputatin: It saves cmputing pwer and time. But few studies have deeply lked at the phenmenn in nature. Spiders, Vllrath says, are ideal fr an experiment t bridge this gap—nt nly because it is easy t spt design changes in their web s but als because spiders reprduce brken-ff legs.
Vllrath and his c-authr. Thiem Krink, a cmputer scientist, filmed and digitized the mvements f several crss spiders, each with partially reprduced, half-length legs at certain psitins. These spiders built webs as quickly and perfectly as thse with eight full-length legs. If the brain were cmputing hw t cmpensate fr shrter legs, the researchers say, they wuld have seen tiny but measurable delays in peratin. Instead the study hints a spider’s leg receives basic brain cmmands but adjusts its mvements based n lcal input frm sensrs, which include hairs and slits in the bdy cvering.
The researchers tested the rules by prgramming a simulated virtual spider, and Vllrath says the next step is t build a physical spider rbt.
“I find this wrk extremely interesting, telling us mre abut spiders and als abut mrphlgical cmputatin,” says Cecilia Laschi, a bi-rbticist, nw at the Natinal University f Singapre, wh wasn’t invlved in the study. “Yu never knw what amazing innvatins basic science like this culd bring.”
32.Why des the authr mentin spiders at the very beginning?
A.T intrduce mrphlgical cmputatin.
B.T stress the unique features f their webs.
C.T draw attentin t their ptential applicatins in medicine.
D.T present the cmmn functins that spiders and humans share.
33.What’s the authr’s purpse f writing Paragraph 3?
A.T highlight the specialties f spiders in the wild.
B.T explain the benefits f mrphlgical cmputatin.
C.T illustrate the principle f mrphlgical cmputatin.
D.T shw the cause f selecting spiders fr the research subjects.
34.What inferences can be drawn frm bserving the crss spiders?
A.The spiders didn’t need half-length legs t make better webs.
B.The spiders’ brains has a relatively small rle t play in their web designing.
C.The spiders’ brains didn’t knw what legs were ding dwn there.
D.The spiders with brken-ff legs were seen bvius delays in actin.
35.What is the best title fr the text?
A.Study Shws Spiders Culd Make Webs with Half Legs
B.Researchers Are Trying t Make Semi-independent “Cmputer”
C.Mrphlgical Cmputatin Draws the Attentin f Researchers
D.Researchers Study the Secret t Spiders’ Ability t Stick
