On a cld mrning in May, I received a fascinating email frm a high schl friend. inviting me t a 10-day all-female surfing adventure in Prtugal. The ffer was irresistible, and I instantly knew my answer was yes.
The trip seemed simple enugh. Ten wmen, ranging frm 30 t 45 years ld, all strangers, will gather n the Prtuguese cast t embrace the challenge f surfing the Atlantic waves.

There’s a certain pride in imprving ur expertise, becming increasingly knwledgeable in ur chsen fields, yet unintentinally, this fcus ften leaves ther skills undevelped and leads t neglecting ther areas f ptential grwth.
Tw days later, I arrived in Ericeira, a charming surf twn, where I met my surfing grup. Despite ur different persnalities and backgrunds, we were all united in a persistent desire t challenge urselves, learn, tackle and grw.
The shres at Ericeira, where the beginners learn t surf, are shallw and cvered with slippery rcks. They make fr sfter waves but are difficult t navigate (驾驭).
Guided by ur amazing caches, tgether, we faced the waves. Smetimes, it pured with rain, and the waves crashed arund us, but we were still ut there. And with every slip and fall, wrds f encuragement filled the air.
Hnestly, I prbably spent mst f my days frzen t the bne, but that didn’t matter because a new level f genuine jy and persnal achievement had been unlcked.
Learning a new skill taught me the humbleness that can cme frm ding badly at smething new, and the pride that develps when yu finally manage t grasp smething yu’ve been wrking n.
While surfing might nt be my calling, trying it ut inspired me t take mre risks in life, t step utside f my cmfrt zne and t never stp believing in myself. Yu never knw what yu’re capable f if yu dn’t g ut there and try.

Since 2001, rbtic tls have revlutinized the practice f surgery. They have greatly reduced the stress and physical demands nrmally placed n surgens and have made certain prcedures pssible.
One example is "keyhle surgery", r minimally invasive (微创) surgery, which nrmally requires surgens t stand at awkward angles and make difficult mvements with their hands t make a cut inside the patient. But in June 2022, surgen James Ansell used 3D glasses and tw jysticks (操纵杆) t cntrl fur rbtic arms t perfrm a prcedure t remve a cancerus tumr (肿瘤). Sme even believe that rbtic systems, cmbined with AI, culd ne day surpass human surgens. In 2022, engineers at Jhns Hpkins University in the US used their Smart Tissue Autnmus Rbt (STAR) t suture (缝合)the ends f a severed intestine (断肠) in fur pigs, shwing that certain prcedures can be dne autnmusly by rbts.
But, given current technlgical limitatins and the high csts f these rbts which can cst millins f dllars, the cmplete rbt takever f surgery may still be a while ff.

When things dn’t seem t g right, what’s yur first thught? D yu just give up r d yu make a prmise t try a different apprach? If yu give up the effrt simply because yu’ve run int difficulty, yu’re nt nly giving yurself a reasn t call yurself a failure, yu’re als depriving (剥夺) yurself f the pprtunity t learn.

It als greatly imprves yur perceptin (感知) f yur abilities.
Cnsider that vercming difficulties is quite an achievement. When yu cmbine that with the cnfidence yu feel in being able t analyze and put tgether a wrkable apprach r slutin, yu wind up with a psitive utcme verall. This satisfying result adds t yur mtivatin t slve the next item n yur list, t g fr anther gal that may be a bit mre challenging.
This ability t vercme difficulties desn’t cme abut autmatically, yet it is a talent yu can fster. Indeed, it may seem like a lsing plan, especially if yu dn’t see results right away. Instead f lsing hpe, keep n ging.
Have yu ever disappinted yurself despite yur effrts when yu’ve encuntered challenges in adapting t changing circumstances? Suppse yu haven’t been able t figure ut a way arund them r culdn’t determine a wrkable apprach. Is this a terrible thing? Des it mean yu’re certain t frever be at the end f the line when it cmes t accmplishments? It’s nt like that. What it des indicate, hwever, is that yu may yet keep sme unfrgiving thughts abut yur wn abilities. Yu may, fr example, nt trust yur instincts (本能) r yu might nt believe yu’re capable enugh f taking a calculated risk.
    51. We can infer frm the first paragraph that ______.
    A. running int difficulty is a valid reasn t stp trying
    B. it’s a rare thing fr peple t have a gd pprtunity
    C. facing challenges ffers learning and grwth pprtunities
    D. it’s better t give up than persist when faced with difficulty

She said she decided t majr in scilgy.(费恩说:“我退休后没什么事可做,我觉得玩宾果游戏跟不上我的速度。” Fein wanted intellectual engagement and t achieve her lng-standing gal f earning a bachelr’s degree./ Fein wanted t keep her mind active/have a fuller life and achieve her dream f getting her degree.
    【57题详解】
考查主旨大意。根据第五段“Fein spent her childhd in the Brnx, New Yrk City, where her family lived in pverty. After graduating early frm high schl, she started wrking as a secretary at a dress manufacturer at the age f 16. Fllwing her marriage, she spent 18 years raising her children at hme. 【60题详解】
考查开放题。根据“你能从这个故事中学到什么?请解释一下”可回答“费恩的故事告诉我们,应该克服困难坚持学习的故事,树立终身学习的意识”,故答案为Fein’s stry tells us that we shuld vercme difficulties and persist in learning, and establish the cnsciusness f lifelng learning.
