Humans aren’t the nly animals that mve t music. Parrts have been knwn t d it. The researchers played a snata by Mzart fr lab rats at different variatins (变更) f the riginal speed: 75%, 100%, 200% and 400%. Wireless sensrs n the rats’ bdies tracked their mvements. Meanwhile, 20 human participants were invlved and listened t the same music thrugh mtin sensr-equipped headphnes.
It was bserved that the rats’ head mvements were the mst bvius when the music played at its nrmal speed, which was arund 132 bpm (beats per minute). The same was true fr human participants. The researchers then changed t sme pp sngs such as Lady Gaga’s “Brn This Way” and Michael Jacksn’s “Beat It”. The study shwed that bth rats and humans mved their heads alng t the beat in a similar rhythm. The level f head bpping frm bth humans and rats decreased as the music sped up. The study suggests that there is smething similar abut the way human and rat brains respnd t rhythm, but rats d nt match their mtins t the beat like humans d. Humans can predict the timing f a beat and mve predictably t it.
Aniruddh Patel, a psychlgist wh studies brain respnse t music, says humans and parrts respnd t beats with big, vluntary mvements such as head shaking, dancing r ft tapping. The researchers played a snata by Mzart fr lab rats at different variatins (变更) f the riginal speed: 75%, 100%, 200% and 400%. Wireless sensrs n the rats’ bdies tracked their mvements. Meanwhile, 20 human participants were invlved and listened t the same music thrugh mtin sensr-equipped headphnes.
It was bserved that the rats’ head mvements were the mst bvius when the music played at its nrmal speed, which was arund 132 bpm (beats per minute). The same was true fr human participants. The researchers then changed t sme pp sngs such as Lady Gaga’s “Brn This Way” and Michael Jacksn’s “Beat It”.
