The fashin cmpany f Alia Juma’s shwed its newest cllectin at a wrkshp in Shanghai. Eighteen clthing kinds frm the cllectin were made f recycled plastic bttles. “We realized that billins f water bttles are thrwn int ceans every year and it wuld take hundreds f years t break dwn. We shuld use them t imprve the envirnment,” said Alia Juma, the cmpany’s designer. “Five bttles can make a shirt, 10 a dress, and 20 a shrt cat.”
Many ther fashin cmpanies are finding similar ways t save ur planet these days. The prcess is rather simple. First, the plastic bttles are washed and cut int small pieces. Then they are melted (熔化) and shaped int small balls. Then the balls are melted again t frm threads (线). Peple can then use the threads t make different kinds f clthes.
Accrding t Juma, it takes 67, 000 bttles t prduce 1 tn f threads. This cuts dwn carbn emissins (碳排放) by 4.2 tns and water use by 6.2 tns cmpared with the nrmal way f making threads.
Sme peple might have wndered abut wearing smething made f plastic bttles. But in fact, clthes made f plastics can be even better than thse made frm cmmn materials.
