    Thusands f meters under the Suth China Sea, tw ancient shipwrecks carrying numerus ­cultural relics had "slept" fr hundreds f years befre they were discvered by Chinese archaelgists in 2022. The find stunned the whle wrld.
    The tw shipwrecks were discvered at a depth f abut 1,500 meters using the submersible Shenhai Yngshi, r Deep Sea Warrir, in Octber 2022. The relics are in piles in varius cmpartments; the highest pile is mre than three meters high.
    The N.1 wreck mainly cntains prcelain wares, rughly mre than 100,000 pieces dating back t the reign f the Zhengde Emperr (1506-1521) f the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
    The N.2 shipwreck mainly cntains a large number f wd lgs, mst f which have been prcessed. Thrugh a preliminary study, it was determined that the ship was laded with carg and had sailed frm verseas t China. It dates back t the reign f the Hngzhi Emperr (1488-1505) f the Ming Dynasty, accrding t China's Natinal Cultural Heritage Administratin (NCHA).
    "The wrecks are bth relatively well-preserved and a large number f relics have been uncvered," Yan ­Yalin, directr f the archaelgy department f NCHA, said at a press cnference held Sunday in Sanya, Suth China's Hainan Prvince.
    "The well-preserved relics are f high histrical, scientific and artistic value. It may cnstitute a wrld-class deep-sea archaelgical discvery," he added.
    Sng Jianzhng, head f the archaelgical prject and a researcher at the Natinal Centre fr Archaelgy, tld the Glbal Times n Mnday that in the middle f the Ming Dynasty, China ften imprted timber frm Sutheast Asia. He explained that the timber was usually used t build buildings, like the palace f the emperr. Hwever, further research is needed t uncver mre details.
    On Saturday, fficials frm NCHA embarked n a landmark deep-sea archaelgical investigatin f the N.1 shipwreck by establishing a permanent underwater mapping fundatin in the suthwest crner f the shipwreck site and cnducting preliminary searches, accrding t NCHA.
