    1.(2022新高考II卷C篇)
Reading Art: Art fr Bk Lvers is a celebratin f an everyday bject — the bk, represented here in almst three hundred artwrks frm museums arund the wrld. The image f the reader appears thrughut histry, in art made lng befre bks as we nw knw them came int being. In artists’ representatins f bks and reading, we see mments f shared humanity that g beynd culture and time.
In this “bk f bks,” artwrks are selected and arranged in a way that emphasizes these cnnectins between different eras and cultures. We see scenes f children learning t read at hme r at schl, with the bk as a fcus fr relatins between the generatins. Adults are prtrayed (描绘) alne in many settings and pses —absrbed in a vlume, deep in thught r lst in a mment f leisure. These scenes may have been painted hundreds f years ag, but they recrd mments we can all relate t.
Bks themselves may be used symblically in paintings t demnstrate the intellect (才智), wealth r faith f the subject. Befre the wide use f the printing press, bks were treasured bjects and culd be wrks f art in their wn right. Mre recently, as bks have becme inexpensive r even thrwaway, artists have used them as the raw material fr artwrks — transfrming cvers, pages r even cmplete vlumes int paintings and sculptures.
Cntinued develpments in cmmunicatin technlgies were nce believed t make the printed page utdated. Frm a 21st-century pint f view, the printed bk is certainly ancient, but it remains as interactive as any battery-pwered e-reader. T serve its functin, a bk must be activated by a user: the cver pened, the pages parted, the cntents reviewed, perhaps ntes written dwn r wrds underlined. And in cntrast t ur increasingly netwrked lives where the infrmatin we cnsume is mnitred and tracked, a printed bk still ffers the chance f a whlly private, “ff-line” activity.
    28. Where is the text mst prbably taken frm?
    A. An intrductin t a bk.B. An essay n the art f writing.
    C. A guidebk t a museum.D. A review f mdern paintings.
    29. What are the selected artwrks abut?
    A. Wealth and intellect.B. Hme and schl.
    C. Bks and reading.D. Wrk and leisure.
    30. What d the underlined wrds “relate t” in paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Understand.B. Paint.
    C. Seize.D. Transfrm.
    31. What des the authr want t say by mentining the e-reader?
    A. The printed bk is nt ttally ut f date.
    B. Technlgy has changed the way we read.
    C. Our lives in the 21st century are netwrked.
    D. Peple nw rarely have the patience t read.

I was abut 13 when an uncle gave me a cpy f Jstein Gaarder’s Sphie’s Wrld. It was full f ideas that were new t me, s I spent the summer with my head in and ut f that bk. It spke t me and brught me int a wrld f philsphy (哲学).
That lve fr philsphy lasted until I gt t cllege. Nthing kills the lve fr philsphy faster than peple wh think they understand Fucault, Baudrillard, r Cnfucius better than yu — and then try t explain them.
Eric Weiner’s The Scrates Express: In Search f Life Lessns frm Dead Philsphers reawakened my lve fr philsphy. It is nt an explanatin, but an invitatin t think and experience philsphy.
Weiner starts each chapter with a scene n a train ride between cities and then frames each philspher’s wrk in the cntext (背景) f ne thing they can help us d better. The end result is a read in which we learn t wnder like Scrates, see like Threau, listen like Schpenhauer, and have n regrets like Nietzsche. This, mre than a bk abut understanding philsphy, is a bk abut learning t use philsphy t imprve a life.
He makes philsphical thught an appealing exercise that imprves the quality f ur experiences, and he des s with plenty f humr. Weiner enters int cnversatin with sme f the mst imprtant philsphers in histry, and he becmes part f that crwd in the prcess by decding (解读) their messages and adding his wn interpretatin.
The Scrates Express is a fun, sharp bk that draws readers in with its apparent simplicity and gradually pulls them in deeper thughts n desire, lneliness, and aging. The invitatin is clear: Weiner wants yu t pick up a cffee r tea and sit dwn with this bk. I encurage yu t take his ffer. It’s wrth yur time, even if time is smething we dn’t have a lt f.
    28. Wh pened the dr t philsphy fr the authr?
    A. Fucault.B. Eric Weiner.

When I read the bk as a yung teenager, I still remember being unable t understand it well and thinking that this bk was very much abut fat shaming.
Nw, rereading it again after all these years, what als still cmes thrugh is the way that 16-year-ld Cle slwly becmes strng and independent. And that, I think, is why this stry was stuck smewhere in the back f my mind fr the past thirty r s years.
Initially (起初) planning t spend three days n the island her father wns in Canada, Cle runs away frm her distant father and cntrlling grandmther. Deep in sadness ver the lss f her yunger sister and her mther’s death, she feels a need t escape and has a step by step plan.
What starts as three days slwly becmes a summer, as she finds a cave and figures ut hw t survive. A strm, hwever, traps her n the island and she is frced t g t extreme measures t survive int winter.
Then she saves herself. And I rather like her grandmther’s reactin t Cle’s weight lss. And she is rather at a lss fr the wrds ver the changes in her granddaughter’s physical appearance.
Finding a bk I might never identify has been a jy. Each time I am able t identify a bk like this, it brings back memries, but my reading f it brings new, and I hpe deeper, insight.

Many peple qute the phrase frm Jane Jacbs that “there must be eyes n the street” t emphasize the relatinship between urban safety and design. Jacbs’ views n urban safety were, in truth, far mre cmplex than this phrase suggests. Her bk The Death and Life f Great American Cities has becme the basis f a wrldwide mvement t fster safer cities.
Jacbs made an imprtant cntributin t ur understanding f cities by linking the fear f crime and urban design. In a successful city district a persn must feel persnally safe n the street amng all these strangers. It desn’t take many incidents f vilence n a city street t make peple fear the street. And as they fear them, they use them less, which makes the streets still mre unsafe.
Fr Jacbs, eyes n the street came frm stres and public places, including bars and restaurants alng the sidewalks, street vendrs and pedestrians. She recmmended the installatin f bright street lights t “sharpen every pair f eyes”.
Jacbs widened her attentin t urban safety in general, including parks and public husing prjects. While mst planners fcus n the green benefits f parks, she argued against underused r dangerus parks. She bserved that parks are successful when they encurage a range f activities and users.
She emphasized design and management plicies t encurage interactin at public husing sites. She suggest ed integrating public husing cmmunities int existing street patterns and cultivating street activity by including businesses in the buildings. She ppsed fencing and security guards, creating a sense f territry and islating public husing residents frm the wider cmmunity.
Jacbs wrte abut her experience f daily life in the city and urged planners t pay attentin t hw rdinary peple actually use urban space. Frm her experience as a wife, mther, and resident in New Yrk, she arrived at a mre human visin f the city than the experts f the day did. Her cncern abut urban safety was visinary (有远见的), and her manner f lking at the city still ffers a critical viewpint fr evaluating crime preventin and cmmunity safety strategies tday.

I am a by wh likes reading and I read all kinds f bks. When I d this, I have ended up with tw speeds—fast and slw depending n hw wrthwhile I find the bk. I like t analyze and pnder ver the wrds and cntents f the bks, which can sharpen my mind.
When I read the bk Intrinsic Mtivatin(《内在动机》), I ask myself, “What kind f bk is it?” Well, first f all, I have t say Dan Pink writes well, which is prbably nt surprising as he is a speechwriter fr an American leader. The text is neither academically difficult nr verly casual. It states infrmatin clearly withut effrt. The subject matter f the bk is mtivatin, and it starts with a discussin f hw external mtivatin is less effective fr mdern knwledge wrk, where wide intelligent decisin-making and innvatin are essential.
The bk shws that the tricky nature f hw we are truly mtivated is uncvered with plenty f examples and descriptins f sund research. Fr example, it is shwn hw payment can signal that a task is undesirable and s reduce intrinsic mtivatin. The heart f the bk is the analysis f intrinsic mtivatin, in particular thrugh the three key elements f autnmy, mastery and purpse. The rest f the bk then takes an applied psitin, shwing hw these principles can be applied in the wrkplace. The bk ends up with a cmprehensive summary, cvering the cntents frm several different angles and prviding an easy future reference.
This is the srt f bk I like mst. Unsurprisingly, perhaps, I tk quite a lng time t read and re-read this excellent bk. It cvers the subject f mtivatin strngly and well. and is nw ne f my definitive references in a rather large library.

Imagine that yu take a walk arund yur yard r nearby park and immediately, the sunds f an insect band surrund yu. Prduced by the muscular mvements f insects called treehpper (角蝉), this imagined sundscape cmes frm vibratins(共鸣、振动)that flw acrss the surface f plants. But it is nt at all like the familiar vcalizatins f crickets(蟋蟀); instead, it’s smething richer, mre varied. Sme sunds are sng-like, thers are similar t the nises f machines r musical instruments. In the cmpany f scientists with a laser vibrmeter(振动计), a device that changes the treehpper vibratins int sunds audible t human ears, Yng gets t hear them in the wild and in the labratry. He is shcked by the attractive sunds.
In this bk that fllws n frm 2018’s I Cntain Multitudes, Yng writes in a perfect balance f scientific severity and persnal awe as he invites readers t grasp smething f hw ther animals experience the wrld. And it desn’t take lng t see why. Althugh he lived an uncmmnly lng life, int his mid-80s, it wasn’t a very exciting ne. He almst never left Venice, where he had n real cmpetitrs in art. His wrking practice remains unclear, since, as Hale writes, “16th-century writers n art thught it inapprpriate t describe the physical act f painting.” He was faithful t his first wife, and althugh he remarried after her death, we dn’t even knw the name f his secnd wife. His letters deal with mstly bring matters f accunting—“I d nt see hw I can hpe ever t btain the mney kindly assigned t me,” that srt f thing—and many f thse were actually written by secretaries.
Even specialists may nt really care just hw much Titian received fr this r that prtrait, r hw he gt his cusin a jb at curt.
Venice in the 16th century was a bmtwn. Intellectually and religiusly prgressive, it served as a mixing pint fr immigrants frm east and west and was the capital f an expanding empire. A few decades later, Venice’s glry days were gne. Hale des an admirable jb recapturing the sights and smells f the Republic, its traders and patricians(贵族), and f shwing hw the city nurtured ne f the greatest painters f Western art histry. But the subject f her bigraphy remains beynd her grasp. As she wuld surely acknwledge, the brilliance f Titian rests nt n his letters r bank ledgers(账本) but n his paintings.
