Elizabeth Macarthur was brn in Devn, England n 14 August 1766.She came t Australia with her husband,Jhn Macarthur,an army fficer,in June 1790.She is bestknwn fr her rle in starting the wl industry in Australia.
Shrtly after arriving in New Suth Wales,Jhn was given 100 acres f land in Parramatta,where he held a high psitin.He named the land Elizabeth Farm.In letters t her family in England,Elizabeth described her huse as “a very excellent brick building”.In 1805 Jhn was given anther large piece f land,which he named Camden Park.
In 1796 Jhn bught his first merin sheep,a breed (品种) that prduces very gd wl.Other farmers in the area als bught merin sheep,but they crssbred them with ther breeds,which affected the quality f wl.Jhn and Elizabeth wrked hard t build up their number f sheep,and by 1803 they had 4,000 almstpure merins.They sent their wl t England fr the first time in 1807.

After graduating,Franklin wrked first in Cambridge and later in the British Cal Utilisatin Research Assciatin.During the war,she als served fr a perid as an Air Raid Warden.After the war,Franklin travelled t Paris t wrk where she learnt Xray diffractin techniques (衍射技术).In 1951,Franklin returned t England.She used her knwledge f Xrays t imprve equipment at King's Cllege.This actually enabled her team t prduce very meaningful phts f DNA.When James Watsn,a scientist wrking n his wn DNA structure in Cambridge,saw these phts,he said,“My jaw (下巴) fell pen,and my heartbeat began t race.”
In a 1953 editin f Nature,James Watsn and Francis Crick published a paper n the structure f DNA,which had been infrmed by Franklin's phts.In the same editin,Franklin published her data n DNA.Franklin was mre careful abut publishing a mre accurate (精确的) thery f DNA structure.She wished t see mre experimental evidence.Hwever,Watsn and Crick were mre cnfident and they annunced in Feb.1953 that they had fund the secret f life.Franklin's data and phts were very imprtant in their DNA thery.
