Fur years later, my mther purchased a prfessinal ventrilquial figure ventrilquial figure, which I named Freddie O'Sullivan. He was lifelike, with mving eyes, mving eyebrws, and culd stick ut his tngue. Treating Freddie like a real persn enhanced my perfrmance.

One f the majr reasns we take phts in the first place is t remember a mment lng after it has passed: the birth f a baby, a reunin, etc, Hwever, every time we snap a quick picture f smething, we culd in fact be harming ur memry f it.
Linda Henkel, a prfessr f psychlgy at Fairfield University in Cnnecticut, studied hw taking phts impacts experience and memry. She cnducted an experiment using a grup f undergraduates n a guided tur f the university's Bellarmine Museum f Art. The students were asked t take phts f bjects that they lked at n the tur and t simply bserve thers. Later, she tested their memry f all the bjects they had seen n the tur. The results were clear. Overall, peple remembered fewer f the bjects they had phtgraphed. They als culdn't recall as many specific visual details f the phtgraphed art, cmpared t the art they had merely bserved.
“When yu take a pht f smething, yu're cunting n the camera t remember fr yu,” Henkel said. “Yu dn't engage in any f the cmplex r emtinal kinds f prcessing that really wuld help yu remember thse experiences, because yu've utsurced it t yur camera.”
Then, Henkel ran anther study. This time when peple tk a tur f the museum, they were asked t take tw kinds f phts: thse f the bjects in the exhibit alne and thse with them standing next t the bjects. It turns ut that it actually changes their viewpint n the experience, whether they're in a pht r nt. In ther wrds, if yu are in the image, yu becme mre remved frm the riginal mment as if yu are an bserver watching yurself ding smething utside yurself. Interestingly, if yu are nt in the image, yu remember mre.
Henkel desn't disagree that the purpse f utsurcing ur memry t devices can free up ur brains t d ther cgnitive(认知的)prcessing. But frm the experiments Henkel is sure that cameras can't cmpare t what the brain is capable f with input frm the eyes and the ears.
28. What can we cnclude frm Henkel's first experiment?
A.Peple take phts t remember a mment.
B. Taking phts is a cmplex r emtinal prcess.
C. Taking phts influences experience and memry.
D. Peple bserve mre f the bjects when taking phts.
29.When yu are in a pht, yu
A. return t the riginal mment
B. remember mre abut the bject
C. change yur viewpint n the pht
D. becme an bserver utside yurself
30. What is the authr's purpse in writing this passage?
A. T explain the reasns why peple take phts.
B. T intrduce the disadvantages f taking phts.
C.T persuade peple nt t rely n phts fr memry.
D. T express disapprval f the use f devices t free brains.

Amng the excitement f all things artificial intelligence, writers are increasingly wrestling with a hard truth: It appears rbts are cming fr their jbs. Little mre than a plaything f researchers a decade ag, AI and autmated rbts are regularly prducing cuntless articles n a daily basis.
Observes Mayur Bhatt, marketing headset Services Guru: “It is nly a matter f time befre algrithms(算法)are able t write articles n any tpic and fr any target grup. ” Adds nted authr Stephen Marche: “Whatever field yu are in, if it uses language, it is abut t be transfrmed. ” Peple f writing driven by AI insist the rbts are simply here 't serve humanity'. Rbts will d the hard labr wrk, they say. Writers will be freed-up t engage in mre interesting, mre in-depth and mre creative wrk.
But fr the many writers and editrs wh have already lst their jbs t AI, that pleasant future is a tugh sell. Cnsider Radar, a hyper-lcal news service that has been generating AI-written articles in the UK since 2017. Instead f using reprters t cver news beats, Radar relies n rbts. Thse autmatns mine gvernment databases n crime, health, envirnment and similar-and then aut-write stries frm that data with an extremely lcal hk. Fr example: Radar's AI sftware can ingest a new gvernment reprt n crime acrss the UK, and then aut-generate hundreds f custmized stries frm the study, based n lcalized data. Each stry is hyper-lcalized t a twn r even a smaller cmmunity by including data frm the gvernment reprt. The resulting micr-fcused stries are sld t news utlets thrughut Britain-as well as t any ther news utlet that might be interested. Gary Rgers, editr-in-chief, Radar: “There is pen data acrss all the main beats f news-health, crime, transprt, etc. -filled with stries waiting t be tld.”
S far, many writers are aware f the adptin f AI-generated writing via a few, well-publicized stries abut the tech's use at majr news rganizatins like Blmberg, the BBC and The New Yrk Times. But it turns ut thse abve represent nly smattering f what's really ging n. A 2021 study fund that 15% f news stries are nw autmatically generated at leading news utlets using AI. Mrever, the adptin f AI-generated writing has gne far beynd news-reprting, crpping-up acrss a wide range f writing jbs.
T date, human beings still best their rbt cmpetitrs in writing f the highest quality. Even s, the hard fact remains that AI will be prducing an increasing number f autmated writing in cming years that cmpetes in a wrld ften entrapped in the icy hld f 'gd enugh'.
31.What can be inferred frm paragraph 2?
A.Algrithms can write articles quickly.
B.Writing is mre than a plaything.
C.Writing is hard but interesting.
D. AI writing has great ptential.
32. Hw des Radar generate AI-written articles?
A. By quting lcal stries.
B. By including fficial data.

Cnfirmatin bias(偏见)is ur tendency t seek ut infrmatin that cnfirms ur existing beliefs. It als describes hw we try t find ways t lk at unclear infrmatin in ways that supprt rather than challenge thse beliefs-r simply ignre infrmatin that cntradicts them. 35
Peple usually dn't engage in cnfirmatin bias n purpse.36 Fr example, if yu heard that a plitician yu supprt was caught in a scandal(丑闻), yu might be mre likely t believe explanatins that make them lk less guilty. Meanwhile, peple wh dislike that plitician wuld prbably be mre likely t believe stries that make them lk wrse.
S what can we d t avid cnfirmatin bias? 37 This can help us check if we nly believe certain things because we never seriusly cnsidered ther pssibilities. It's als easy t surrund urselves with an “ech chamber” f peple wh think the same way we d-especially n scial media. 38 It can help us understand that there may be ther ways t see the same issue.
And perhaps mst imprtantly: we have t be careful nt t jump t cnclusins. 39 We shuld try t learn mre befre deciding hw we feel abut smething, even if it's very imprtant t us. But that's ften easier said than dne.
A.The thing we mst want t believe might nt actually be true.
B.But research has fund that it is real and affects ur judgment.
C.But it can be helpful t talk t peple wh dn't share ur beliefs.
D. Research has shwn that cnfirmatin bias ccurs in several cntexts.
E.Mst f all, accept that yu have biases that impact yur decisin-making.
F.One thing we can d is try t lk fr evidence that cntradicts ur beliefs.
G.This is especially true fr infrmatin abut things that feel very imprtant t us.
第三部分 书面表达(共两节,32分)
第一节(共4小题;第40、41题各2分,第42题3分,第43题5分,共12分)
阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。请在答题卡指定区域作答。
The capacity fr empathy-t first identify and then understand and share in smene else's feelings-is largely held as a virtue. Yet, there is a knwledge prblem that makes being naturally empathetic a struggle. Why? As pet Jhn Keats put it, “Nthing ever becmes real until it is experienced.”
S hw can smene else's perspective(视角) and emtins ever becme real enugh fr us t develp empathy? Reading fictin may prvide an answer.
Studies shw that when yu read fictin, it nt nly activates the language prcessing center f the brain but als increases glbal flw in the brain. It speeds up the part invlved in physical mvement and areas f the brain linked t sensry experiences. In ther wrds, reading fictin lights up the brain in ways that cpy the neural(神经)activities f the experience yu’re reading abut. Fr example,if yu read a well-written passage abut a character hiking thrugh the wilderness, yur brain reacts as if yu're n that hike.
T really cultivate empathy, yu need t be internally mre aware f and cnnected t thse arund yu. And again, reading fictin is assciated with just such a skill. One study, which assesses ne's ability t determine smene else's emtins based n their facial expressin alne, shwed that fictin readers scred higher than nn-readers and readers f nnfictin. The researchers assumed that reading fictin allws peple t practice taking n smene else's perspective and thus imprves their scial awareness. This suggests that reading fictin imprves ne's thery f mind and emtinal intelligence.
The takeaway lessn is simple: If yu want t build empathy, try reading mre fictin, mre ften-especially fictin by and abut peple whse experiences are different frm yur wn.
40.What des the authr think can help develp empathy?
41.Hw des reading fictin light up ur mind?
42.Please decide which part is false in the fllwing statement, then underline it and explain why?
Nn-readers and readers f nnfictin can better determine smene else's emtins based n their facial expressin alne.
43. In additin t the benefits mentined abve, what d yu think are sme ther benefits f reading fictin?(In abut 40 wrds)
