I received a rejectin email 2 weeks after interviewing fr a pstdc psitin. When I read it, I felt angry because I didn’t even knw why I wasn’t successful. After applying fr a jb at a cnsulting cmpany, I gt a phne call frm a cmpany representative. “Unfrtunately, we decided t ffer the jb t smene else,” the vice said. Again I felt discuraged. But the cnversatin wasn’t ver. The representative went n t tell me I hadn’t clearly expressed my mtivatin fr applying fr the psitin and why I wanted t wrk fr the cmpany. The feedback (反馈) was tugh t hear. But I quickly realized he was right.
Frm then n, I decided t carefully evaluate each jb pening and nly pursue the nes that I was passinate abut. In my applicatins, I als began stating mre clearly why I wanted that particular jb. Sn the apprach started t pay ff, as I gt an ffer fr a pstdc psitin in Pland that I was truly excited abut.
A few years later, I fund myself n the ther side f the interview table. As a freshly hired grup leader, I was interviewing candidates fr the first Ph. D. psitin in my lab. I was particularly lking frward t talking with ne candidate; n paper, his applicatin lked great-nice CV, gd recmmendatins, strng cver letter. But the interview went badly. He didn’t seem t have dne any reading in advance abut the research I was ding, which made me wnder whether he was truly interested in wrking with me. When I called t tell him I culdn’t ffer him the psitin, I asked him if he wanted t knw where he culd imprve in future interviews. As the cnversatin went n, I gt the sense that he was grateful fr what I said.
I’ve since filled several psitins in my lab. Fr each recruitment (招募), I’ve made a pint t treat every interview as a trade: Candidates invest time and effrt t prepare fr ur cnversatin-and if they dn’t get the psitin, the least I can d is reward their effrt with pinters n hw they can imprve.
    24. Hw did the authr feel after the cnversatin with the representative?
    A. Cnfused.B. Prud.C. Grateful.D. Disappinted.

    A. He was lacking in scial skills. B. He had a faulty cver letter.
    C. He was t selective in the psitin. D. He knew nthing abut the interviewer’s research.
    27. What is the authr prbably?

Different phtreceptrs (视细胞) in the eyes can affect hw we see the wrld arund us. Animals including bees and sme birds can see ultravilet light (紫外线) that human eyes cannt see. By recnstructing the clrs that we knw animals can see, scientists can learn mre abut hw they cmmunicate and find their psitin. Getting an accurate view f what animals are seeing has been a challenge, but a camera system develped by scientists at the University f Sussex in the United Kingdm and Gerge Masn University in Virginia culd help eclgists and filmmakers create vides that clsely cpy the clrs that different animals see in their natural envirnments.
The camera system builds n the current technique called spectrphtmetry. By using this technique, images are taken at specific wavelength ranges that are typically beynd what humans can see. Hwever, using the methd can be time-cnsuming, prduce false clrs, require specific lighting cnditins, and can’t always capture (拍摄) smething that is mving. T vercme sme f these limitatins, the team develped a camera and sftware system that captures animal-view vides f mving bjects under natural lighting cnditins.
One f the cameras recrds vides in fur different clr channels at the same time: blue, green, red, and UV. That data is then prcessed int perceptual units using a ppular prgramming language called Pythn. This generates a mre accurate vide f hw animals see thse clrs. The team tested this new system against the traditinal spectrphtmetry methds and their new system predicted the perceived clrs with an accuracy f ver 92 percent. “Our prject was quite invlved, and we had many surprises alng the way,” says Daniel Hanley, a leading researcher. “The mst surprising thing that we discvered was hw much cluds can impact an bserved clr. We didn’t tend t ntice these shifts, but they were ntable.”
“We plan t apply the camera system as bradly as pssible. Currently, we are explring a range f applicatins,” says Hanley. “Our hpe is that thrugh cmmunity engagement ur designs can imprve and we will gather many nvel bservatins abut clrs in nature.”
    28. Fr what d researchers study animal visin?
    A. T try ut the newly-develped camera system. B. T imprve the animals’ natural envirnments.
    C. T see the effect f ultravilet light n animals. D. T understand animal cmmunicatin mre effectively.
    29. What is an advantage abut the new camera and sftware system?
    A. It changes the way clrs lk. B. It requires n specific lighting cnditins.
    C. It allws users t capture smaller bjects. D. It can transfrm images in different wavelength ranges.
    30. What surprises the researchers mst during the experiment?
    A. The new system is rather accurate. B. Cluds will affect hw animals see the wrld.
    C. Animals are mre sensitive t clrs than humans. D. The camera can recrd vides in fur clr channels.
    31. What can be the best title fr the text?
    A. The Strange Ways That Animals See the Wrld
    B. Researchers Study the Develpment f Animal Visin
    C. New Camera System Reveals Wrld Thrugh Animals’ Eyes
    D. Sme Animals See Wrld That’s Cmpletely Invisible t Our Eyes

As the capabilities f artificial intelligence (AI) keep grwing, sme cmpanies are hiring “AI prmpt (提示) engineers” t help them get the best ut f the emerging technlgy. Are these jbs set t becme a universal presence, r are they a passing fad (时尚)? Generative AI creates text r images in respnse t prmpts entered by the user. This can be as simple as asking fr smething in plain English, similar t using a search engine. But there is a key t it: including the right references and keywrds that can guide AI twards the desired utcme.
“By buying a pre-built prmpt given by prmpt engineers, yu can ensure the AI mdel will generate what yu want. The average price is $3.50, but sme prmpts can cst hundreds f dllars, ”says Ben Stkes, the funder f Prmpt Base. Mst f the prmpt engineers n the site dn’t have a technical backgrund. The engineers tend t cme frm a phtgraphy r graphic design backgrund, and thse wrking n prmpts fr generating text used t wrk in marketing r cpy writing.
Aarn Sines at US recruitment firm Razr has been placing engineers int AI jbs fr five years, but nly came acrss the term “prmpt engineer” earlier this year. Sines says that a lt f the cmpanies appraching him lking fr a “prmpt engineer” are actually seeking a mre runded AI researcher with technical skills. He believes AI mdels culd becme better at extracting (提取) infrmatin frm humans abut what they want, making the idea f a specialized prmpt engineer bslete, but thinks there will always be a need fr humans t versee AI mdels during develpment and applicatin.
Zhan Qin at Zhejiang University in China says cmplex prmpts, and the prmpt engineers wh create them, are unlikely t disappear any time sn because AI mdels aren’t like traditinal algrithms (算法) that wrk n lgic and can be entirely understd by humans. “Sme prmpts are shrt. But there are a lt f very, very lng prmpts. Even the generatrs f thse prmpts d nt knw the exact meanings behind thse magical wrds,” says Qin.
    32. What matters mst in prviding prmpts fr generative AI?
    A. Shrt cntent.B. Apprpriate wrds. C. Simple English.D. Attractive images.
    33. What des paragraph 2 mainly talk abut?
    A. The basic functin f AI mdels.B. The develpment f AI mdels.
    C. The urgent need fr prmpt engineers.D. The prblems f prmpt engineering.
    34. Which can best replace the underlined wrd “bslete” in paragraph 3?
    A. Outdated.B. Cmplicated.C. Dminant.D. Understandable.
    35. What des Zhan Qin think f future prmpt engineers?
    A. They’ll still have a rle t play.B. They will lse appeal sn.
    C. They will face cruel cmpetitin.D. They will experience ups and dwns.

Change can be hard. It means a lack f certainty and predictability. 36 Here are sme tips t give yur teen t help them cpe with change in a healthy way.
37 Many times, ur first respnse t change is t either deny it, fight it, r run away frm it. Unfrtunately, nne f these strategies help us cpe with change successfully. Mst f the time we can’t cntrl change, but we can cntrl ur respnse t it. Smetimes, simply saying “things are changing, and that’s OK” can make us feel better.
Cntrl what yu can. 38 Having sme things that stay the same like walking the dg every evening after dinner reminds us that sme things are still the same and allws ur brain t rest. It can als help t plan whatever is still in ur cntrl r set gals fr areas we want t see imprve. Useful strategies can include fcusing n the prblem at hand, develping a plan fr actin, and asking fr advice.
Identify yur fears. Our imaginatins can get the best f us smetimes, and we might exaggerate the prblem. Hnestly evaluate the change and cnsider what the wrst case is. Determine what specifically is making yu wrried. 39
Talk abut slutins mre than feelings. One f the mst cmmn myths (谬见) f cping with unwanted changes is the idea that we can “wrk thrugh” ur anger, fears, and frustratins by talking abut them a lt. 40 In fact, research shws that repeatedly bradcasting negative emtins can make us feel wrse. As yu talk abut the change yu are facing, make sure yu are fcusing n the prblem and pssible slutins, and avid fcusing slely n yur feelings.
    A. Take a fair attitude.
    B. Acknwledge the change.
    C. This isn’t always the case.
    D. Lk at the psitives that will cme ut f the change.
    E. It helps t have ther areas f ur life fllw a predictable schedule.
    F. Yu might realize that the wrst case is nt as bad as yu imagined.
    G. Hwever, change is necessary fr grwth and it is nrmal t fear what we dn’t knw.
