After a few mnths n the Pale Autimmune Prtcl, my intense tiredness imprved and I slwly regained sme energy. That is when I tried t fllw my dctr’s advice t exercise.
I clearly remember my first attempt. I was still weak, but smehw, I thught that if I culd push thrugh and pretend I had a nrmal life that things wuld get better. S, I went ut and started running in the little neighbrhd park. Unfrtunately, I didn’t last even five minutes and came back hme, ttally crashed. It tk me several days t recver. After that first brush with exercise, I understd that I wuld have t start slw. I began ging n daily walks with my husband arund the blck. Slwly, we went further and further, and my strength came back prgressively.
After walking, I started t attend yga classes. I remember barely making it thrugh my first class. My muscles were weak and trembling by the time I rlled up my mat. But I was als s happy t be able t get ut f the huse, mix with ther peple and have a scial life!

Trees are symbls f hpe, life and transfrmatin. They are als increasingly labeled as a straightfrward, relatively inexpensive, and best slutin t climate change. Lately, sciety has been putting a lt f pressure n trees t get the whle wrld ut f the climate change emergency. Accrdingly, enthusiasm is wrldwide ppular amng gvernments, businesses and individuals fr ambitius prjects t plant billins, even a trillin mre, s as t help cut current emissin(排放).
“Trees are having a bit f a mment right nw,” says Je Fargine, an eclgist with The Nature Cnservancy based in Minneaplis. “There’s n anti-tree lbby. Trees have lts f benefits fr peple. Nt nly d they stre carbn, they help prvide clean air, prevent sil ersin, shade and shelter hmes t reduce energy csts and give peple a sense f well-being.”
Yet, as glbal eagerness fr adding mre trees grws, sme scientists are urging cautin. Befre mving frward, they say, such massive tree prject s must address a range f scientific, scial and ecnmic cncerns. Prly designed prjects that dn’t address these issues culd d mre harm than gd, the researchers say, wasting mney as well as public gdwill. “There’s a real feeling that frests and trees are just the idea we can use t get sme unspeakable supprt fr many, perhaps mre cmplicated, types f landscape restratin initiatives”, says eclgist Jseph Veldmanan.
The cncerns are myriad: There’s t much fcus n numbers f seedlings planted, and t little time spent n hw t keep the trees alive in the lng term, r in wrking with lcal cmmunities. And there’s nt enugh emphasis n hw different types f frests stre very different amunts f carbn. There’s t much talk abut trees, and nt enugh abut ther carbn-string ecsystems. And ver the last decade, a diverse garden f tree-centric prpsal has spread acrss the glbe. That can lead t all kinds f prblems, Jseph adds. “Fr me, the devil is in the details.”

    A. Getting rid f the air pressure f the earth.
    B. Launching envirnment-based mvements.

Being in cllege, cupled with being immersed (沉浸的)in scial media means students are cnstantly surrunded by peers and their prfiles(个人资料).“I am s pleased t annunce that I have received an internship (实习工作).”If I pened my LinkedIn(a scial netwrk fr jb seekers, prfessinals and business)right nw, the prbability f me seeing psts f this kind is 100 percent.
I knw the idea f cmparisn via scial media has been studied and discussed a lt, but what we dn’t put enugh emphasis n is the physical and persnal impact it can have n students. When students lk at achievements and psitins held by their peers, it is easy t feel as thugh they are nt ding enugh. When we g t career fairs and stand in lines fr hurs t nt receive an interview, it is easy t feel as thugh there isn’t a bright future ahead. When we study in the library t imprve ur GPA(Grade Pint Average)s as t get a jb, it is easy t feel as thugh we have n fun.
It is easy t feel this way when we are immersed in what we think ur peers’ lives and achievements lk like. It can be easy t assume that the girl, wh is ding tw jbs, is a leader in three clubs, is taking 22 credit s and has an awesme internship lined up fr the summer, is s happy and it’s ging t be successful. Hwever, what we dn’t see are the three hurs f sleep she gets each night r the lack f nutritin in her meals r that she is unable t keep up with her scial relatinships.
“One f the peple we judge the mst is urselves. When we cmpare, we build n that judgment we make n urselves in a negative way,” says Teri Pipe, Arizna State University’s chief well-being fficer. This is nt t say that it is impssible t d all thse things, but it als imprtant t knw yurself and what yu value when deciding what yu want t d. “We shuld cme back t the balancing pint t understand that each f us has smething imprtant t d and serve in the wrld, which is as unique as yur fingerprint,” says Pipe. By re mving yurself frm ther peple’s lives and things that have happened in the past r culd happen in the future, yu can allw yurself t be fully immersed in the present t enjy and cherish what yu’re ding.
The mental impacts f stress can als lead t physical pain. “When yu are cmparing yurself t smene, yu start questining yurself, and s yu either make sme changes blindly r feel defeated, and stp ding critical thinking,” says Jamie Valderrama. She is a lecturer in the university’s Schls f Scial Wrk, which is ne f the largest and mst diverse scial wrk prgram s in the US. “Yu might start feeling happiness in yur heart, r yur breathing and heart rate might accelerate. By paying attentin t the bdy, yu can take a step back and take preventive measures t make sure yu calm the reactin dwn t handle the issue quickly in a psitive way.”
    32. What d we knw abut the prfiles the authr ften sees n LinkedIn?
    A. They ften cntain false infrmatin.
    B. They cmpletely shw the psitive side.
    C. They fcus n ne’s wrking experience.
    D. They usually shw a persn’s uniqueness.
    33. What makes students feel stressed n scial media accrding t the authr?
    A. Their peers’ relaxed life.
    B. Their peers’ high GPAs.
    C. Their peers’ gd luck.
    D. Their peers’ success.
    34. What is mainly discussed in Paragraph 3?
    A. Hw yur peers are misunderstd in general.
    B. The price f lking perfect n scial media.
    C. What the average girl n scial media is like.
    D. The reasns why ne can becme successful.
    35. Why des Teri Pipe suggest we keep away frm ther peple’s lives?
    A. They culd be negative. B. They are rather rdinary.
    C. They culd discurage us. D. They tend t be unrealistic
