    Qian Xuesen was brn in Hanghu, Zhejiang Prvince n December 11, 1911. In 1929, Qian placed third in the natinal cllege entrance examinatin and gt a chance t attend Shanghai Jia Tng University. There, he received a degree in mechanical engineering. In 1932, Shanghai was bmbed by Japan. Qian graduated in 1934, and the fllwing year he had t leave China fr further study in the US.
    Qian's ability attracted a grup f rcket scientists in the US. After he received his dctr's degree, he became a prfessr as well as a researcher wh studied rckets and missile (导弹) theries.
    In 1949, when the news f the birth f the Peple's Republic f China came t the United States, Qian Xuesen and his wife decided t return t their mtherland right away. Hwever, when they were ready t return hme, they were stpped by the US fficials and were sent t prisn. With the help f Chinese gvernment and his friends, he finally returned hme.
    When he returned t China in 1955, ur cuntry's space research was almst deserted. In 1956, he set up the first research center f rckets and missiles. And he persnally trained the first generatin f China's aerspace engineers. He was a pineer and was hnred as the “Father f China's Missiles”. He is the pride f the Chinese peple. He made imprtant cntributins t the missile and space prgrams in China.
    He passed away n Octber 31, 2009 at the age f 98, but his histry still encurages Chinese yuth. His devtin t ur cuntry was expressed in his saying. "My career is in China; my success is in China, and my destinatin is in China!"
