Ice frmed in the small pl. Then I wuld g t the hckey rink (冰球场). I picked up my hckey stick, hlding it in the way I frmed a big “T”, stepped nt the ice, and mved clsely tward the middle. Shuld I g thrugh, the stick wuld hpefully keep me frm ging cmpletely under.
The next day it rained. Rain can d ne f tw things t a backyard hckey rink. It can either make it the smthest surface, r it can turn it int thse terrible rumble strips (减速带) n the highways. Mre ften it is the latter. On Saturday mrning my brther discvered that was what had happened t ur ice. “Let’s g and see Dad.”
Taking an ld irn bx frm the backyard, my father taught us t fill it with wd. He then tied a line t a hle at ne end f it—the hmemade Zambni (磨冰机) machine, “Once the fire really gets ging, the bx will get really ht,” he said. “Then we just mve it arund and it will smth dwn the bumpy (不平的) surface.” Finally, Dad began t mve it acrss the pl. After abut twenty yards, still mving frward, he said t us ver his shulder, “Well?” “Nthing,” I answered.
Fr many peple this might have been the sign t end the prject. But nt ur father. As we skated ff the ice and returned t the kitchen fr ht chclate, he kept ging, patiently walking line after line. He stayed ut there, until afternn turned int early evening. The pl wuld have t wait fr warmer weather.
There’s a lessn in the Zambni abut fatherhd, I think: that it is nt abut being perfect in yur actins but perfect in yur intentin. Lve is nt smth as glass, but bumpy as ice with rumble strips, and hles, and places t fall dwn. Smetimes n ne will be watching yu walk line after line, but they’ll remember that yu were ut there.

When we feel disappinted with what might have been r we wish we culd change a chice we made in the past, we have regrets.
Regrets can be harmful when we dn’t want t accept them. T many negative (消极的) thughts and cntinuus cnsideratin can lead t stress and anxiety. But as the ld saying ges, a cin has tw sides. Regrets have advantages t. When we reflect (反思) n regrettable chices we made in the past, that’s a gd thing. We grw frm self-examinatin and can learn frm ur missteps. Inspired t be better, we imprve n ur decisin-making s we dn’t repeat ur mistakes.
Anther psitive side f regret is that it can mve yu clser t being yur best self. A study abut peple’s mst lng-lasting regrets was published in the jurnal Emtin, where scientists lked at the cnnectin between regret and an individual’s self-cncept (自我认知). If yu’re feeling regretful abut smething frm yur past, knw yu’re nt alne in feeling this way. Everyne has smething (r many things) that they regret. Hwever, there are ways t mve frward by shwing yurself understanding. If that’s t difficult, get the help f a health prfessinal. Sunds frm human activity fld acrss the ceans, causing truble t cean creatures. And climate (气候) change may make sme places even luder.
Researchers have expected the ceans t get nisier because f increasing human activity. “The mre gds yu buy, the mre shipping yu have, s the mre nise yu have.” says Luca Pssenti, a scientist studying sund in the cean at the Ryal Netherlands Institute. But Pssenti and his c-wrker realized that climate change might als influence hw sund travels thrugh the water.
Human-caused climate change is changing cean temperatures, salt levels and acidity (酸度). S Pssenti’s team used cmputers t mdel hw thse factrs (因素) influence nise levels acrss the wrld’s ceans.
When waters becme mre acidic, they can’t take in sund at sme wavelengths as well, s thse sunds can travel further, adding t the nise in sme areas. This effect is relatively small. Other changes impact the sund level mre, the researchers fund. Changes t temperature and salt levels can change hw well different layers (层) f the cean mix, which, in turn, impacts hw sund travels.
The team predicted (预测) mdels f the wrld in abut 70 years if climate change cntinues. And then they cmpared them with mdels f the wrld nw. In the Nrth Atlantic, they saw an increase in sund levels in the upper 125 meters f the cean. This was caused mstly by ice melting (融化) ff f Greenland, frming a cld layer f water near the cean’s surface. Sund traveling thrugh water tends t g tward the cldest area. As a result, sund waves tended t get stuck in the cld tp layer-spreading further ut acrss the water, instead f traveling deeper. That increased the nisiness at this depth in the Nrth Atlantic. The mdels suggested that a single ship culd sund abut five times as lud underwater because f this. Cnsidering all the ship traffic between Eurpe and Nrth America, that may stress animals, many f which cmmunicate, and catch fd with sund.
    32. Hw is paragraph 2 develped?
    A. By quting an expert.B. By using examples.
    C. By making cmparisns.D. By presenting research findings.
    33. What is paragraph 4 mainly talking abut?
    A. Effects f temperature changes.B. Sme risk factrs fr a nsier sea.
    C. Impacts f acidity n wavelengths.D. Ways ceans mix and sund travels.
    34. What can we learn frm the last paragraph?
    A. Sea animals will be prtected frm nises.
    B. Added meltwater des mre harm than gd.
    C. Greenland is hit the hardest by climate change.
    D. The result f the research is based n predictin.
    35. What leads t the sund change in the Nrth Atlantic accrding t Pssenti’s research?
    A. Increase in salt levels.B. Failure f acidity cntrl.
    C. Change in the cean depths.D. Frmatin f a cld water layer.
