He is mst clsely assciated with the s-called “secnd generatin” f the Hudsn River Schl. In 1851 Kensett painted a mnumental canvas (巨幅油画) f Munt Washingtn that has becme a sign f White Muntain art.
Kensett’s style evlved gradually, frm the traditinal Hudsn River Schl manner in the 1850s int the mre imprved Luminist style in his later years. By the early 1870s Kensett was spending cnsiderable time at his hme n Cntentment Island, n Lng Island Sund near Darien Cnnecticut.

Right nw yu shuld knw abut tw ways t represent numbers, as Rman numerals and Arabic numerals. Plus, peple in ther cuntries use different symbls fr numbers. With all these different symbls, hw can math be a universal language?
Math is a universal language because the principles and fundatins f math are the same everywhere arund the wrld. Ten plus ten equals twenty if yu write it as Arabic numerals 10+10=20 r Rman numerals X+X=XX. The cncept f 20 items is the same n matter where yu are in the wrld.
And, what abut gemetry(几何)? A circle is always a circle and its circumference (周长) is always calculated the same way n matter where yu are in the wrld. The same hlds true fr any ther figure like triangles, squares r rectangles.
We like t visit ther cuntries t experience new scenery, new fds and a different culture. It’s fun t watch dcumentaries abut festivals that we dn’t have in Nrth America. There is a great deal f cultural diversity in the wrld that we can enjy and celebrate. But math is ne thing that is cmmn t everyne.
Different cuntries use different units f measurement; fr example, the United States and the United Kingdm use inches and feet while the rest f Eurpe uses metric measurements f centimeters and meters. But n matter what the units are, everyne must measure the huse that they are building. Huses everywhere, whether they are square r rund, are built using the same mathematical equatins(方程式).
The principles f prbability are the same everywhere as well. The chance f rain in Guatemala might be greater than the chance f rain in the Sahara Desert but prbability wrks the same way. Peple arund the wrld have different genes but the prbability f passing n genes t their children fllws the same mathematical rules.
It is easy t see that n matter hw diverse different cultures are, math is ne cmmn language acrss the wrld.

Thugh plastic shpping bags are cheap and useful, they cause widespread pllutin. Nw, we may have an unlikely helper t help clean up ur garbage — a small wax wrm.
The wrm’s hidden skills were discvered by accident. Abut tw years ag, Federica Bertcchini, a develpmental bilgist at the Spanish Natinal Research Cuncil and an amateur beekeeper, was cleaning ut bees’ nest that had been filled with wrms. She remved the wrms and put them in a plastic bag while ding the cleaning. After finishing, she went back t the rm where she had left the wrms, and fund they had escaped frm the bag. When she checked, she saw that the bag was full f hles.
Realizing she may have made an imprtant discvery, Bertcchini teamed up with ther researchers t cnduct further research. They began by placing 100 wrms n sme plastic bags and discvered that ver a 24-hur perid, the wrms managed t chew thrugh 92 milligrams f plastic. The researchers make an apprpriate judgment that at this rate, the grup f wrms culd degrade (降解) an average-sized 5.5-gram plastic bag within a mnth. T rule ut the pssibility that chewing was causing the degradatin, the researchers spread the sft wet substance inside the bdy f sme recently dead wrms n a sheet f plastic. Sure enugh, even the liquid was able t eat thrugh the material, cnfirming that the wrms have plastic-digesting enzymes (酶).
While the news is certainly encuraging, nt everyne is cnvinced. The Michigan State University’s Ramani Narayan believes the tiny pieces f micrplastics released by the plastic-eating wrms wuld pick up harmful substances and transprt them up the fd chain, causing, even mre, harm t the envirnment and human health. Susan Selke, directr f Michigan State University Schl f Packaging, is cncerned that the wrms will nt be able t survive in an xygen-free landfills where large amunts f waste material are buried under the earth.
Hwever, Bertcchini is nt planning t transprt wrm armies t landfills. Instead, the researcher wants t identify the enzyme that helps degrade the plastic. The researcher says, maybe we can find the mlecule (分子) and prduce it n an industrial level, rather than using a millin wrms in a plastic bag.
12.What did the experiment f using dead wrms find ut?
    A. Wrms’ chewing may cause the degradatin.
    B. A plastic-eating chemical exists in wax wrms.
    C. Dead wrms are effective in dealing with plastic.
    D. It takes a lng time fr wrms t degrade plastic.
    13.What is Ramani Naravan's attitude t Bertcchini's finding?
    A. ObjectiveB. CnvincedC. Questining.D. Optimistic.
14.What might Bertcchini fcus her later research n?
    A. The structure f plastic-degrading enzymes.
    B. The use f ther wrms in dispsing plastic.
    C. Wax wrms’ adaptability t the landfill envirnment.
    D. The chance f prducing wax wrms n a large scale.
15.What is the best title fr the text?
    A. Can wax wrms save the envirnment?
    B. Wax wrms have an appetite fr plastic.
    C. Why d wax wrms have plastic-eating skills?
    D. Hungry wrms jin the fight against plastic pllutin

But math is ne thing that is cmmn t everyne.(我们喜欢到其他国家去体验新的风景、新的食物和不同的文化。 故选A项。
T rule ut the pssibility that chewing was causing the degradatin, the researchers spread the sft wet substance inside the bdy f sme recently dead wrms n a sheet f plastic. Sure enugh, even the liquid was able t eat thrugh the material, cnfirming that the wrms have plastic-digesting enzymes
While the news is certainly encuraging, nt everyne is cnvinced. The Michigan State University’s Ramani Narayan believes the tiny pieces f micrplastics released by the plastic-eating wrms wuld pick up harmful substances and transprt them up the fd chain, causing, even mre, harm t the envirnment and human health.“尽管这一消息确实令人鼓舞,但并非所有人都对此深信不疑。
    14.答案:A
Instead, the researcher wants t identify the enzyme that helps degrade the plastic. The researcher says, maybe we can find the mlecule (分子) and prduce it n an industrial level, rather than using a millin wrms in a plastic bag.“相反,研究人员想要找出帮助降解塑料的酶。 故选A。
Thugh plastic shpping bags are cheap and useful, they cause widespread pllutin. Nw, we may have an unlikely helper t help clean up ur garbage — a small wax wrm.“虽然塑料购物袋便宜又有用,但它们造成了广泛的污染。 Wax wrms have an appetite fr plastic.(蜡虫喜欢吃塑料。)
    16.答案:DBACF
解析:①上文“If yu travel t nearly any Chinese city in the summertime, yu will see peple, mstly men wearing T-shirts, sitting ut n the sidewalks n lw chairs in the shade, playing a game with large rund disks f wd.
②根据上文“Xiangqi dates back as early as the Warring States perid. While experts have different pinins as t wh created Xiangqi and hw it is linked t Western chess, there is n dubt that by the Tang Dynasty Xiangqi was a ppular game in China.
根据上文“Like Western chess, the bject f the game is t capture the ther player’s “king”. 故选A。
④上文“Unlike Western chess, instead f placing the pieces in squares, the pieces are placed n the intersectins f lines. Anther big difference between Western chess and Xiangqi is that there is a large empty space in the middle f the bard, which the elephants cannt crss. 象棋和西洋象棋的另一大区别是棋盘中间有一大块空白,象无法通过)提到中国象棋中有个空间是象不能越过的;下文“This space refers t an area in China where Liu Bang and Xiang Yu had a life-r-death war.
⑤根据上文“The war was s influential that “the Chu River and the Han Bundary” has becme a metaphr(隐喻)referring t any bundary between tw ppsing armies. When the Chinese peple tday see this name n the bard, the battle scenes cme t their mind, as thugh they are surrunded by thick smke, able t hear the beating f war drums.

    32.答案:drew;based;but;its;t calm;has been drunk;daily;Besides;which;a
nt als...
故填has been drunk。
由“Chinese green tea has many family members with beautiful and petic names, such as Yunwu”可知,句子表示“除了龙井,中国绿茶还有许多家族成员,都有美丽而诗意的名字,比如云雾”,空格处意为“除了……
a muthful f是固定短语,意为“一口”,因此空格处是a,故填a。
