    2. Different Cuntries Have Different Kinds f Englishes
Vyages f peple frm England play an imprtant part in spreading the English language. At present, English is frequently spken as an fficial r cmmn language in many cuntries, such as America, Singapre, Malaysia and sme African cuntries. All based n British English, the English spken in these cuntries can be well understd by native English speakers. But actually, these Englishes have been gradually changing in accents, spellings, expressins and the usage f vcabulary.
Because f this fact, yu can make use f the differences t tell which cuntry the freigners f yur blck are frm. Fr example, if a bss fluently cmmands his driver, “Cme up straight t my apartment by elevatr and take sme gas fr my trucks and cabs”, instead f requesting, “Please cme t my flat by lift and take sme petrl fr my lrries and taxis”, yu can recgnize his American identity, while the latter suggests that he is British.
例如,如果有个老板流利地命令他的司机:“Cme up straight t my apartment by elevatr and take sme gas fr my trucks and cabs(直接搭电梯到我公寓上来拿卡车和出租车的汽油)”,而不是要求说,“Please cme t my flat by lift and take sme petrl fr my lrries and taxis(请直接搭电梯到我公寓上来拿卡车和出租车的汽油)”,你就可以轻易地辨认出他的美国人身份,而后者却暗示着那是一位英国人。
    3. A Hard Trip
My sister was fnd f traveling. Ever since graduating, she had been determined t rganize a trip t an ld temple. Since transprting fare was expensive, she decided t use a bicycle t cycle there nt caring abut the disadvantages. Her stubbrn attitude was always her shrtcming. Once she made up her mind t d smething, n ne culd persuade her t change her mind. Finally, we gave in as usual thugh we preferred t take a train. After we prepared everything, including the schedule, reliable weather frecast and the insurance, we began ur trip.
Our jurney was alng a river flwing frm a high altitude. Our pace was slw because the river frequently had many sharp bends thrugh deep valleys, where the water seemed t bil. Just as I recrded in my jurnal, it was really a hard jurney. But we als enjyed great views. One night, I put my head n my pillw--a parcel f wl cats, and lay beneath the stars. When the flame in frnt f ur cave went ut at midnight, I fund the sky s beautiful!
    4. A Hrrible Earthquake
Dirty water rse in wells and canals befre the earthquake. But n ne judged that an earthquake was cming. Suddenly, everything shk. It seemed as if the wrld was at an end. Millins f brick huses and a number f dams were destryed. Railway tracks became useless bars. Pipes in mines burst and let ut smelly steam. Huge cracks trapped cyclists everywhere.
The next day, this event was the headline r main title f all newspapers. With the reprters giving an utline f the disaster, the whle natin was shcked by the damage and the victim’s extreme suffering. Peple were mved when they read that the survivrs cmfrted each ther by saying “Cngratulatins! Yu survived!”. S they nt nly expressed their sympathy sincerely, but als rganized tgether t help the victims right away. The injured were rescued and the dead were buried. The frightened survivrs were dug ut frm under the ruins and were ffered shelter, fresh water and electricity. Thanks t peple’s help, the lss was minimized.
    5. The Great President
As the funder f the republic, the president had many gd qualities. Befre cming t pwer, he was a generus lawyer. He was willing t selflessly help everyne wh turned t him. He accepted n fee t ffer legal guidance and pinins t thse wh were ut f wrk r uneducated. Later, believing all mankind t be equal, he devted himself t stpping the unfair anti-black laws. He set up the Black Yuth League and was vted t be the leader. Hwever, thugh he kept peaceful principles withut vilence and terrr, his mean enemies still blew up his huse and attacked his relatives, and he himself culdn’t escape being sentenced t 30 years in prisn.
Nt fearing f the prisn guards’ cruelty, he kept active and begged n mercy frm them. As a matter f fact, he was always hpeful and never lst heart during the stage even thugh he was in truble.
Finally, peple rewarded him with the leader’s psitin and a gld blanket.
    6. A Brave Maid
A wden vase frm the Ming Dynasty at the entrance f the receptin hall amazed everyne. The artists designed it in a rare style and selected valuable jewels t decrate it. Peple thught highly f its fancy clur f hney and the beautiful paintings n it.
The vase used t belng t a frmer castle. But when the cuntry was at war, the enemy trps explded the castle. Debates n hw the vase survived went n and n. In rder t remve peple’s dubt, a team f n less than 20 peple carried ut an infrmal investigatin. The evidences they fund shwed that a maid tk the vase apart and asked a sailr t sink it in a lcal well. She never gave away the secret even under the cruel trial f the enemies wh were in search f treasures.
It is wrth giving this brave maid a frtune in return.
    7. A Fair Cmpetitin
Swifter, Higher and Strnger stands fr the spirit f the Olympics. But fairness is the basis f this mtt. Only when yu win fairly will yu and yur hmeland deserve the great glry. But nwadays, unlike the ancient hnest slave cmpetitrs, sme hpeless athletes wh can’t bear the pain f training cheat when taking part in games. Medals seem t have magical pwer causing them t cheat, and the prize mney has replaced the mtt as their nly gal.
S, in the gymnastics event t be held in ur city next mnth, ne f the hst’s respnsibilities is t keep cmpetitins fair. They advertised n psters utside the stadium t prmise that every cmpetitr is t have a regular physical examinatin in a gymnasium ne after anther. N ne can bargain n this. The vlunteers in charge will be very strict. It is flish t cheat because they will nt be admitted t cmpete and will even be fined as well.
    8. Cmputers
The gal f early calculating machines was t simplify difficult sums. But with the help f new technlgy, electrnic chips replaced tubes and a revlutin f artificial intelligence has arisen. Frm then n, the appearance f cmputers ttally changed ur lives. They can nt nly dwnlad infrmatin frm the wet when cnnected by the netwrk r mbile phne signals, but als slve different types f lgical prblems. With peratrs as their caches, they can even cntrl rckets t explre the mn and instruct andrids with the human race’s characters t mp flrs and watch ver yur naughty niece. Anyhw, cmputers are s helpful that they d bring happiness.
Hwever, cmputers are easily attacked by viruses. This reality has becme a hard-t-deal with-prblem. As a result, cmputers are dangerus in a way. S, persnally, I wrry abut their universal applicatins in sme fields, such as finance.
    9. Wildlife Prtectin
Dinsaurs died ut because f an unexpected incident. But wildlife tday disappears r is in danger just because humans d harm t it. Fr example, tigers are hunted fr fur t make carpets s that they can nly live in secure reserves; grassland is destryed withut mercy s that dust strms cme int being affecting distant cities.
Last year, scientists saw sme mnkeys rubbing themselves with a certain kind f insects t prtect themselves frm fierce msquites biting. Accrding t the result f the inspectin, they fund that the insect cntains a pwerful drug, s lcal farmers were emplyed t catch the insects. The ending was that the insects disappeared frm the whle zne. When tld that it was a lss t humans, the farmers burst int laughter and respnded, “Our real lss is ur decreasing incme.”
We shuld appreciate the natural balance and pay mre attentin t the imprtance f wildlife prtectin. Nt until we succeed in letting wildlife live in peace, can we smile in relief.
    10. My First Band
I was very sensitive t music. Just dipping int the music bks briefly, I culd sing r play well. T be hnest, I always dreamt f becming a famus flk actr. I was s cnfident that I never decreased my devtin.
I frmed my first band called “Rlling Frg”. At the beginning, we relied n perfrming n instruments in pubs r t passers –by t earn extra mney in cash. Then we wre false beards t pretend t be the musicians whm peple were familiar with. In additin, we attached humrus acts t ur perfrmances and played jkes n each ther. Sn, ur “funny jazz” became famus and invitatins t perfrm fr bradcast statins began t cme. Afterwards, we srted ut attractive music and made a recrd in a studi. A millin r s cpies were sld and we became millinaires.
It was painful that the band brke up finally. But abve all, I realized my dream t be a musician.
    11.An Interesting Festival
The Agricultural Feast takes place after the Independence Day. It is nt a wrldwide celebratin. Only Christians in Mexic lk frward t its arrival fr its religius rigin:
Lng ag, humans’ ancestrs were bad. They fled and played tricks n each ther and never kept their wrd. S Gd turned up and drwned all their crps. Humans starved day and night, weeping. In rder t gain Gd’s frgiveness, a wman pet set ff t see Gd. She admired Gd and kept aplgizing. Gd was mved. With his permissin, humans finally had gd harvests again. S, t wipe sadness and remind themselves f the belief in Gd, peple began the festival.
On the festival, peple gather in pen air, such as playgrunds r parking lts, and energetically have fun with each ther all night lng, as thugh they were never tired. When a beauty dressed up in lvely clthing reads pems in memry f the pet, everyne hlds their breath. Then, it is the custm that the bne f a rster head is given t her as an award.
Obviusly, the stry is nt true, but the festival is interesting.
    12.Balanced Diet
Wang Peng earned his living by running a barbecue restaurant, which served delicius bacn, fried chicken breast and muttn rasted with pepper and garlic. But his fd and discunt attracted fewer and fewer custmers. Finally, he was in debt. Yng Hui’s slimming restaurant served fresh peas, carrts, eggplants, and raw cucumbers with vinegar. Yu ught t cmbine the tw menus and prvide a balanced diet.”
Befre lng, Wang Peng wn his custmers back.
    13. Sailing Hme
This nvel was abut an unbelievable but genuine adventure. Its authr was a black businessman wh was brught up in America. In 1956, he visited Africa, his birthplace. S he went t the embassy t seek help, but the ambassadr with rude manners didn’t permit his staff t help thugh he bwed t him.
    14. Explre MKII
MKII, a planet billins f kilmeters away, is the rigin f life in many religins. Physicists have prved the thery that its gentle climate and the pull f its gravity are similar t the earth’s. And astrnmers have fund that xygen atms and carbn dixide, which are fundamental t life, exist in its atmsphere thrugh satellites. Cheered up by this news, bilgists, in their turn, began t d sme research t remve peple’s puzzles—Nw that there are sme suitable cnditins, des life really exist n this glbe? D they multiply by laying eggs r giving birth t babies?
Last mnth, a spaceship was sent there. It’s a pity that this missin failed. Unlike the earth, MKII is a much yunger planet. Thus, masses f harmful acid cluds flat everywhere causing vilent chain reactins t break ut. These cluds nt nly blcked ut the pilts’ sight but als damaged the engine system. Luckily, the pilts watched ut carefully and prevented the spaceship frm crashing in time.
