I have wrked as a keeper at the Natinal Z, Paris fr 11 years. Spt and Stripe are the first tiger cubs(幼崽) that have ever been brn here. Glbally, a third f Sumatran cubs in zs dn’t make it t adulthd, s I decided t give them rund-the-clck care at hme.
I’ve gt tw children—the yunger ne, Kynan, was extremely happy abut the tigers arriving—but all f us really lked frward t being part f their lives and watching them grw. I wasn’t wrried abut bringing them int my hme with my wife and kids. These were cubs. They weighed abut 2.5kg and were s small that there was abslutely n risk.
As they grew mre mbile, we let them mve freely arund the huse during the day, but when we were asleep we had t cntain them in a large rm, therwise they’d get up t mischief. We’d cme dwn in the mrning t find they’d turned the rm upside dwn, and left it lking like a z.
Things quickly gt very intense due t the huge amunt f energy required t lk after them. There were sme tugh times and I just felt extremely tired. I was grateful that my family was there t help. We had t have a bit f a prductin line ging, making up “tiger milk”, washing baby bttles, and cleaning the flrs.
When Spt and Stripe were fur mnths ld, they were learning hw t pen drs and jump fences, and we knew it really was time fr them t g. It was hard fr us t finally part with them. Fr the first few days, Kynan was always a bit disappinted that the cubs weren’t there.

Eurpean Unin scientists said n Wednesday that 2023 wuld be the warmest year n recrd. The average wrld temperature fr the first 11 mnths f the year hit the highest level n recrd, 1.46 degrees Celsius abve the 1850 t 1900 average.
The recrd cmes as gvernments are in negtiatins at the COP28 meeting in Dubai. Gvernments are deciding whether t gradually stp the use f cal, il and gas, the main surce f warming emissins.
The 2015 Paris climate agreement set a gal f limiting wrldwide temperature rise t 1.5 degrees abve pre-industrial times. Abve that limit, scientists warn f severe effects n weather, health and agriculture.
Diplmats, scientists, activists and thers have been meeting in Dubai t find ways t limit warming t thse levels. But the planet is nt cperating. They say Earth is n its way t reach 2.7 t 2.9 degrees Celsius abve pre-industrial times. C3S recrds g back t 1940. United States gvernment recrds g back t 1850. Using infrmatin frm ice cres, tree rings and crals, scientists have said this is the warmest 10-year perid Earth has seen in abut 125,000 years. That dates back t the time befre human civilizatin.
Scientists say there are tw driving frces behind the six straight mnths f recrd ht temperatures. One is human-caused climate change frm the burning f cal, il and gas. And El Nin, the natural warming f surface waters in the Pacific, is making it wrse.
Samantha Burgess, deputy directr f C3S, said in a statement that “the Nvember temperatures, including tw days warmer than 2C abve preindustrial, mean that 2023 is the warmest year in recrded histry, which is very likely t be a cl year in the future unless we d smething abut ur dependence n fssil fuels.”
8. Accrding t the passage, what is the natural driving frce behind the temperature recrd?

D
D the clrs that surrund yu influence hw yu feel? Can the clrs n yur walls and n yur clthes affect yur mds? Sme researchers believe the answer is a decisive yes, while thers aren’t s sure.
Yet many marketers, interir designers, medical prfessinals and thers swear by an infrmal field f science knwn as clr psychlgy. Clr psychlgy is defined as “the study f hw the clrs we perceive impact ur thughts and feelings.”
Marketers use the science f clr t persuade us t buy things. When chsing paint, furniture and wall art, interir designers act n the thery that clrs can aruse certain feelings in us. Dentists are ften advised t use light blue paint n their ffice walls t help calm apprehensive patients.
We shuld keep in mind, thugh, that nly by cnsidering cultural preferences are we able t fully understand the science f clr. Fr instance, in the West, white is fr brides and black is fr funerals. But in ancient Asia, white was smetimes wrn fr funerals. In Japan yellw represents curage while in the United States, it represents happiness. Additinally, many variables including gender, age, backgrund and mre must be cnsidered befre making clr assumptins when ne is studying the effects f clr.
After taking clr variable int accunt it’s safe t cnsider sme mainstream theries abut specific clrs and their meanings. Here are just a few:
Red symblizes lve, energy, passin and danger. Red is als believed t increase ne’s hunger, which might be the reasn why McDnald’s and Cca-Cla chse red as their majr branding clr.
Brwn, a clr frm nature, best represents things that are hnest, trustwrthy and dependable. It seems a perfect fit as the branding clr fr the package delivery cmpany UPS.
Blue-in additin t representing peace and calm-als means integrity and cmpetence. It’s n surprise that PayPal and American Express bth use blue as their branding clr.
Green-anther clr frm nature-represents health, grwth and freshness and is the perfect branding clr fr Starbucks.
Pink symblizes lve, rmance, inncence and femininity (女性特质). The ppular dll cmpany that makes Barbie uses pink as its majr branding clr.
If clr psychlgy advcates are crrect, then ur emtins and decisins are truly influenced by the clrs arund us. With this knwledge, we can effectively harness (驾驭) clr pwer t create psitive schl, wrk and hme envirnments.
12. What des the phrase “swear by” in the secnd paragraph prbably mean?
A. deeply investigateB. smewhat dubt
C. deeply believeD. still wish
13. What is the writer’s purpse f taking white and black as an example in the passage?
A. T remind we shuld take culture int accunt when learning the science f clr.
B. T state that cultural preferences are decisive factrs in clr psychlgy.
C. T shw different cultures have different preferences fr different clrs.
D. T prve white and black represent cmplete different things in different cuntries.
14. We can cnclude frm the passage that ________.
A. clr psychlgy may help us make crrect decisins in life
B. clr psychlgy is an uncultivated field in mdern science
C. clr psychlgy has been recgnized thrughut the wrld
D. clr psychlgy is influencing ur emtins and decisins
15. What wuld be the prper title fr the passage?
