The warm receptin n the ceremny was meaningful.Actually, nt many peple understand what exactly music educatrs d r hw much their wrk matters. While her administratin is supprtive, that lack f understanding is a prblem facing the prfessin in general.Anther is resurces. She says her schl “desperately” needs new instruments. She will use sme f her prize mney t buy mre.

The ceans play a crucial rle in lightening glbal warming by absrbing carbn dixide emissins. Hwever, in a study cnducted by the University f Texas, researchers fund that the ceans’ capacity t absrb carbn dixide (CO₂) wuld reach its maximum by 2100 and decrease t half f its current efficiency by 2300, based n a climate simulatin (模拟) that was set fr a wrst-case emissins scenari (设想).
The decline happens because f a surface layer f lw-alkalinity (碱度) water that can hinder the ability f the ceans t absrb CO₂. Alkalinity affects hw much CO₂ can disslve in seawater. Althugh the emissins scenari used in the study is unlikely because f glbal effrts t limit greenhuse gas emissins, the findings reveal a previusly unknwn tipping pint that if activated wuld release an imprtant brake n glbal warming.
“We need t think abut these wrst-case scenaris t understand hw ur CO₂ emissins might affect the ceans nt just this century, but next century and the fllwing centuries. Climate simulatins had previusly shwn that the ceans slw their absrptin f CO₂ ver time, but nne had cnsidered alkalinity as an explanatin. We recalculated pieces f a 450-year simulatin until we hit n alkalinity as a key cause f the slwing.” said Megumi Chikamt, wh led the research at the University f Texas Institute.
The effect begins with extreme climate change, which slws cean currents. This leaves the surface f the ceans cvered in a warm layer f fresh water that wn’t mix easily with the cler, mre al kaline waters belw it. That means mre f it is left behind in the atmsphere. This in turn prduces faster warming, which sustains and strengthens the lw-alkalinity surface layer. C-authr, Pedr DiNezi, said that the discvery was a pwerful reminder that the wrld needs t reduce its CO₂ emissins t avid crssing this and ther tipping pints.
28. What may happen after the year 2300?
A. Mre CO₂ will be absrbed by the ceans.
B. The ceans will lse all their current efficiency.
C. The wrld will face even mre severe warming.
D. The ceans will be less crucial t glbal warming.
29. What des the underlined wrd “hinder” in paragraph 2 prbably mean?
A. Imprve.B. Weaken.C. Prtect.D. Cntrl.
30. What des Megumi Chikamt say abut the ceans?
A. Finding why they slw CO₂ intake is hard.
B. Their ability t absrb CO₂ is at their maximum.
C. They will decide n the future f human beings.
D. They will slw dwn CO₂ absrptin very quickly.
31. Where is this text prbably taken frm?
A. A bilgy textbk.B. A gvernment reprt.
C. Science fictin.D. An envirnmental jurnal.

At a cnference last week, I received an interesting piece f advice: “Assume yu are wrng.” The advice came frm Brian Nsek, a fellw psychlgy prfessr. He wasn’t bjecting t any particular claim I’d made — he was ffering a strategy fr pursuing better science, and fr encuraging thers t d the same.
T understand the cntext fr Nsek’s advice, we need t take a step back — t the nature f science itself. Despite what many f us learned in elementary schl, there is n single scientific methd. Just as scientific theries change, s d scientific methds.
Assuming yu are right might be a mtivating frce, sustaining the enrmus effrt that cnducting scientific wrk requires. But it als makes it easy t interpret criticisms as persnal attacks, and fr scientific arguments t develp int persnal battles. Beginning, instead, frm the assumptin yu are wrng, a criticism is easier t be viewed as a helpful pinter, a cnstructive suggestin fr hw t be less wrng — a gal that yur critic prbably shares.
Nsek’s advice may sund pessimistic, but it’s nt s freign t science. Philsphers f science smetimes refer t the “pessimistic meta-inductin (元归纳)” n the histry f science: All f ur past scientific theries have been wrng, s surely ur current theries will turn ut t be wrng, t. That desn’t mean we haven’t made prgress, but it des indicate that there is always rm fr imprvement—ways t be less wrng.
I like the advice because it builds in an awareness f ur limitatins and a readiness t accept the unknwn (“there are things I d nt knw!”) alng with a sense that we can d better (“there are things I d nt knw yet!”). It als builds in a sense f cmmunity — we’re all in the same bat when it cmes t falling shrt f getting things right. Perhaps the fcus n a shared gal — ur gal as scientists and humans f being less wrng — can help make up fr any harm in scientific mtivatin r cmmunicatin.
32. Why did Nsek send the advice?
A. T express pinins abut my claims. B. T remind me t be pen t criticism.
C. T encurage me t take up science. D. T better my understanding f psychlgy.
33. Hw des assuming yu are wrng help?
A. It mtivates scientists t make effrts. B. It addresses persnal attacks and cnflicts.
C. It sets a cnstructive imprvement gal. D. It cntributes t a deeper insight int yurself.
34. What des the authr think f science theries?
A. Dynamic. B. Testable. C. Pineering. D. Well-established.
35. Which f the fllwing is the best title fr the text?
A. Accept the UnknwnB. Aim t Be Less Wrng
C. Get Engaged in PsychlgyD. Dig int the Nature f Science

My Dad’s Best Flwer

He tk care f them with s much lve and devtin. He dealt carefully with his flwers like a mther taking care f her baby. Many times I sat n the flr f the balcny fr hurs bserving him and his lvely flwers with patience. He was always ding smething n that balcny. He was watering them every day, cleaning the balcny flr, changing the ptting sil and when the stems were thick, strng and high enugh, he started his imprvement peratin attentively like a dctr.
My dad tk a tiny knife and with his left hand he held the stem f the carnatin and measured the height. Then he made a small mark n the stem with his finger. Afterwards he made a sharp cut with the knife, just enugh t fit in again f barley (插穗芽). Then he bandaged the stem with a small bandage. His jb was then t water the plants and t take care f them. “N ne shuld tuch them,” he said t Mm. Every day, when he came hme frm wrk he went straight t the balcny.
