Directins: Read the fllwing three passages. Each passage is fllwed by several questins r unfinished statements. Fr each f them there are fur chices marked A, B, C and D. Chse the ne that fits best accrding t the infrmatin given in the passage yu have just read.
    A
Grwing up in the 80s as a child with lts f siblings, I played in the street until dark r until we were called fr dinner. We had an amazing cmmunity f neighburs. Hwever, ne elderly neighbur hated us. Every time the ftball went int her garden, she wuld cnfiscate it – and then pp the ball. When she cllected ver 20 deflated ftballs, she wuld take them dwn t the plice statin and cmplain. T her, at least, free and active children were a pest and a disgrace.
Actually, at that time, nthing but ne stpped us playing: the shattering f a windw and the scream f a parent cming utside t tell us ff. On reflectin, I was prbably part f the last generatin f children t play utside regularly. Nw in Lndn, the estate I live in is cvered with histric signs saying: “N ball games”.
The signs functin as a play ban fr children. Even during the summer, there are nly a cuple f rebels wh dare t play ftball n the street. They get my nd and a kick f the ball back when it cmes in my directin.
The prblem is, many peple dn’t knw that these signs are nt enfrceable by law: they are simply a request frm lcal husing assciatins.
Of curse, if peple are kicking the ball against smene’s huse r ut n the streets making nise late at night, it wuld be cnsidered criminal damage and antiscial behaviur – and quite right. But mst f the time the signs are just preventing children frm playing.
The Lndn Sprt charity has recmmended that these signs are remved. I agree - let’s burn them all. But I d think it is simplistic t imagine banning the signs will cmbat a natinal besity epidemic.
The Active Lives Survey shws that just 47% f children in England are getting the recmmended 60 minutes r mre f sprt and physical activity a day. Remving “N ball games” signs desn’t mean that the ther 53% f children will feel mtivated t venture utside and play.
The Active Lives Survey als suggests that bys are mre likely t be active than girls. Perhaps bys are still given mre activity pprtunities. The Linesses(英格兰女足)win at the Eurs ftball turnament highlighted the lack f pprtunities fr girls in ftball and inequitable sprts curriculums in schls.
Children and yung peple f black, Asian and ther minrity ethnicities are least likely t be active. Perhaps because racism in sprt is alive and kicking?
In additin, access t sprt and physical activity is a scial justice issue that depends n lcatin and financial circumstances. Fr a child frm an ecnmically disadvantaged backgrund, wh lives in a high-rise flat with little green space arund, the csts and practicalities f participating in sprt are prhibitive. Fr example, a weekend tennis curt csts anywhere between £10 and £27, withut travel r equipment.
S, while we can burn all the “N ball games” signs in the cuntry, the real barrier t cmbating lw activity levels in children is scial inequality. What really needs t happen t get ur children mving?
What des the underlined wrd “cnfiscate” in Paragraph 1 mean in the cntext?
    A. Cllect smething as a hbbyB. Take smething away as a punishment
    C. Destry smething due t being annyedD. Remve and make smething disappear
Why des the authr believe that remving "N ball games" signs may nt effectively cmbat lw activity levels in children?
    A. Because children prefer indr activities.
    B. Because bys are mre active than girls.
    C. Because access t physical activity is influenced by scial inequality.
    D. Because f the lack f interest in sprts amng children.
What cnclusin des the authr draw regarding the relatinship between "N ball games" signs and lw activity levels in children?
    A. Remving the signs will directly address the issue f lw activity levels.
    B. Scial inequality is the primary barrier t increasing children's activity levels.
    C. Bys are mre likely t play sprts than girls due t cultural biases.
    D. Racism in sprts is a significant factr in preventing children frm being active.
What is the main idea f the passage?
    A. The authr reminisces abut their childhd and the changes in utdr play.
    B. The ineffectiveness f "N ball games" signs in encuraging physical activity amng children.
    C. The impact f scial inequality n children's access t physical activity.
    D. The authr's supprt fr remving "N ball games" signs but recgnitin f deeper issues.

Frm a distance, the grey cement bridge lks unremarkable. Tw tunnels n either side f the Trans-Canada Highway are in semi-circles that end bluntly n the pavement belw. But n tp, away frm passing mtrists’ eyes, lies a grassy asis. Against the dds, pine trees and wildflwers have taken rt here, giving the verpass a fringe f greenery. On the edges, wire fencing prvides safe passage fr wandering animals.
Tny Clevenger has dedicated much f his life t studying the perfrmance f Banff’s wildlife crssing structures. When the first wildlife bridges went up, Clevenger, a researcher with the Western Transprtatin Institute, was living in Canmre, and recalls the distinctly negative atmsphere that surrunded what many saw as a hair-brained scheme by Parks Canada. Save fr a few small crssings in the eastern United States, n ne had ever attempted smething like this befre — and n ne believed it wuld wrk. Editrials in the lcal paper scffed at the “waste f taxpayers’ mney” and cnfidently stated animals wuld never use the $2 millin t $3 millin man-made bridges. Others believed wlves wuld herd their prey int the fence, vilently killing them befre shcked turists.
“This prject started in a bad spt. There was a lt f ppsitin and criticism,” Clevenger says. “It tk several years f gd data, publishing in scientific peer-reviewed jurnals, t change peple’s minds.”
Clevenger nw has 17 years-wrth f data prving the efficacy f the crssings. Amng large carnivres, mrtality (死亡) rates are 50 t 100 per cent lwer alng sectins f the highway where verpasses and underpasses exist. In thse same sectins, mrtality rates fr elk are almst zer, cmpared t 100 elk-vehicle cllisins per year in the mid-1990s. Clevenger’s research has shwn that 11 species f large mammals in Banff have used the structures mre than 200,000 times, including unexpected species such as red fx, hary marmt, breal tads, wlverines, lynx, garter snakes and beavers.
In 2014, a Mntana State University study fund that nt nly are grizzly bears using the crssing structures, but the structures are als helping t maintain genetically healthy ppulatins amng the bears that use them. Grizzlies were crssing with enugh frequency t ensure ppulatins n either side f the highway weren’t genetically islated frm each ther.
“This is Canada’s biggest cnservatin success stry — it’s the largest highway mitigatin cmplex in the wrld,” says Clevenger. “Yu wn’t find anything anywhere else in the wrld clse t what we have. We have the mst verpasses in ne lcalized area and almst half f all the verpasses in Nrth America.”
Why did Tny Clevenger face ppsitin and criticism at the beginning f the wildlife crssing prject?
    A. Because f disbelief regarding the prject's feasibility and effectiveness.
    B. Due t the design flaws f the crssing structures.
    C. Because f cncerns abut the envirnmental impact f the structures.
    D. Due t insufficient funding fr the prject.
Which unexpected species have been bserved using the wildlife crssing structures in Banff?
    A. Grizzly bears and elk.B. Wlves and red fxes.
    C. Garter snakes and beavers.D. Hary marmts and wlverines.
Hw did a Mntana State University study cntribute t the understanding f wildlife crssings in Banff?
    A. It cnfirmed the disbelief surrunding the effectiveness f the crssings.
    B. It identified design flaws in the crssing structures.
    C. It criticized the Canadian gvernment's cnservatin effrts.
    D. It prvided evidence f grizzly bears using the crssings and maintaining genetically healthy ppulatins.

Bth my parents wrked fr 30-plus years fr their emplyers – they had lifelng careers at a single cmpany. Grwing up, they taught me the imprtance f “lyalty” and “cmmitment”.
But in a rapidly changing wrld, the cncept f a jb fr life has becme as rare as a dial-up internet cnnectin. This shift frm stable, lng-term emplyment and single-emplyer careers t a wrld where frequent jb changes are the nrm cmes directly frm glbalisatin, rapid technlgical advancements and the changing ideas abut wrk.
Glbalisatin has turned the wrld ecnmy int a giant, intercnnected web. This has made jb markets fiercely cmpetitive and talent and pprtunities in the labur market mre diverse and digitally accessible.
Jbs can be widely publicised and explred nline and are n lnger tied t yur city f birth. Add t this the rapid technlgical prgress. We nw live in a wrld where the skills yu learned yesterday might nt be enugh fr tday’s jb market.
The jb market is transfrming, with new careers emerging as autmatin and artificial intelligence (AI) advances. Risks and price plicies can be efficiently assessed using AI, making insurance underwriters redundant while advanced sftware in banking and finance mean data analysis can be autmated.
Online bking has reduced demand fr travel agents and desktp publishers are being replaced by user-friendly sftware, which allws peple t create their wn materials. These changes highlight the need fr prfessinals t update their skills and adapt t a technlgically evlving jb market.
As a result, career paths have becme fluid and multi-directinal. It’s n lnger just abut climbing the crprate ladder and getting a regular paycheck; it’s abut explring different paths, switching jbs and industries and smetimes even venturing int freelancing and the gig ecnmy.
Lyalty is defined as an emplyee’s cmmitment t their rganisatin and its gals. It means a willingness t put in extra effrt and t uphld the cmpany’s values and bjectives. Lyal wrkers ften identify strngly with their wrkplace, are reliable and view the rganisatin psitively, even during tugh times.
When lng-term emplyees change wrkplaces, it des nt mean they are dislyal. It signifies a change in pririties and a redefined lyalty bnd. Emplyees are lyal t their emplyer and its interests while wrking there. But they als seek mutual grwth and expect t be recgnised and rewarded.
Career paths are nw a kaleidscpe (万花筒) f experiences and pprtunities. Instead f a career identity being abut a cmpany brand, it is abut skills, experiences and the meaningfulness f the wrk. This transfrmatin means career decisin-making is mre intricate, cnsidering persnal aspiratins, market trends and family cnsideratins.
What factrs have cntributed t the shift in jb market dynamics?
    A. Increased reliance n desktp publishing sftware.
    B. Changing ideas abut lyalty and cmmitment.
    C. The decreasing demand fr travel agents due t nline bking systems.
    D. Glbalizatin, rapid technlgical advancements, and evlving wrk cncepts.
What skills are highlighted as essential fr prfessinals in the evlving jb market?
    A. Skills related t desktp publishing.
    B. Skills that were relevant yesterday.
    C. Skills in data analysis and adaptability.
    D. Skills in insurance underwriting.
Hw des the passage suggest emplyees shuld apprach lyalty in the mdern wrkplace?
    A. By remaining with a single emplyer fr their entire career.
    B. By priritizing persnal grwth and recgnitin.
    C. By relying n traditinal definitins f lyalty.
    D. By aviding jb changes t maintain lyalty.
The best title fr the passage is _______.
    A. Frget Abut a Jb fr Life.
    B. Learn Mre as Much as Yu Can
    C. Benefit frm Lng-term Emplyment.
    D. The Impact f Glbalizatin.

In cntrast t the explsive demise f a massive star seen in a supernva, a nva is characterized by a sudden, brief explsin riginating frm a cllapsed star, specifically a white dwarf. The T Crnae Brealis system is affectinately called the "Blaze Star." (67) _______________________ These stars rbit clsely enugh t interact vilently, leading t peridic explsive events, with the last eruptin bserved in 1946.
    (68) _______________________ Over time, the red giant becmes increasingly unstable, shedding its uter layers nt the white dwarf. This exchange f matter eventually triggers a "runaway thermnuclear reactin," resulting in the nva phenmenn, accrding t NASA.
While the precise timing f the upcming nva event remains uncertain, astrnmers are clsely mnitring the T Crnae Brealis system, which has been dimming since March f the previus year. William J. Cke, lead f NASA's Meterid Envirnments Office, ntes that while mst nvae ccur unexpectedly, T Crnae Brealis is ne f the 10 recurring nvae in the galaxy, ffering sme predictability t its eruptins.
Lcated apprximately 3,000 light-years away frm Earth, the T Crnae Brealis system is typically t faint t be seen with the naked eye. (69) _______________________
