T mst peple, sil is just dirt. But sil is much mre than this. There are fur main things that make up sil—air, water, rganic material(有机材料) and inrganic material. Sil is als hme t many different animals and it is where plants grw.
Organic material are plant and animal matter that has decayed(腐坏)and becmes humus. Inrganic material des nt cme frm plant r animal matter. It includes things such as sand, clay and minerals(矿物质). All these things are necessary t make sil.
There is ne ther thing that sil must have. Sil must have bacteria, bacteria are tiny living things that help t break dwn rganic matter. They turn the rganic matter int useful materials that help make the sil rich.
Besides bacteria, sil’s best helpers are earthwrms. Wrms make tunnels that help water and air get int the sil. They als break up hard sil and mix rganic material and minerals arund in it. Animals such as beetles and snails may live in the sil, t. Different areas have sil in different clrs. The clr f sil depends n three things: The amunt f irn in it; the amunt f humus: and the kinds f minerals that are there. If the sil lks red, it has irn in it.
